Besides Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero and Batamn Beyond: The Return of the Joker, this movie was another iconic animated Bat-Gem. The DCAU will always be peak DC animation for me.
Much like Sub-Zero, Mystery of the Batwoman doesn't get talked as much as Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker, but it's still an enjoyable watch.
The scene with Barbara talking on the phone is the one scene everyone chooses to ignore from the film and the DCAU. That was first established in Batman Beyond (which is the show after Superman TAS) but this film came out after Batman Beyond so it was incorporated which many wish it hadn't.
@@morganakanan8204 Bruce Timm has this weird obsession of turning their relationship from mentor/pupil to something romantic, its very much imply they have a thing in Batman Beyond and we all know the disaster that was the Barbara extra part in the adaptation of the Killing Joke.
@@The_Phantasm exactly, I think in the series barbare is around 23/25 and Bruce it's like 35 so is not THAT creepy if you only look age wise, what I find weird it's that Bruce know barbare since she was 17/18 and took the role of a mentor figure and she was also dating dick his sort of son, so the romantic relationship it's just so strange to me
I don't understand how nobody in the writing room stopped Bruce Timm from writing that Barbara and Bruce might be things. It opens a can of worms, like how weird it is that Bruce is dating one of his son's ex-girlfriends or how the imbalance of their relationship is due to being a mentor/pupil. It is the only aspect of DCAU that I hate and try to ignore whenever it is brought up in show.
37:05 Kate Kane wasn't created yet. Kathy Kane was the Batwoman of the time who is a different person then Kate and is a love interest for Bruce it's a little bit convoluted that there is a Kate Kane who is Bruce Wayne's cousin, and a Kathy Kane who is a love interest for Bruce Wayne and they are completely different people but that's comics. Obviously, this movie did their own thing with the Batwoman character.
The new Kate Kane was made to be an inverse of the original (considering why she and her niece were create) with the nonsensical cousin thing added later. Ironically, this Batwoman was an inbetween step for the costume using the full face mask and emblem from Batman Beyond while the new Kate Kane used the color scheme and similar emblem.
17:12, this song being played in the iceberg lounge randomly pops into my head every once and awhile, and I end up having to give it a listen. It was this movie where I first heard it, and for some reason, it has stuck with me.
Not getting my hopes up but the fact that y'all have been watching a lot of old related superhero movies and shows I HOPE that y'all react to X-Men Evolution or put a poll up for it because that would just make my day
Paul Williams did not voice Penguin in this film. The reasoning behind this decision was Alan Burnett and Curt Geda wanting to experiment with a different voice and bring more of a "big boss" element to the character. Interestingly, Bruce Timm (who was not involved with the film) stated in an interview that he wouldn't have recast Paul Williams as the Penguin, but that he nonetheless respected Burnett's decision.

Barbara and Bruce being a thing is the worst thing in every Batman timeline that incorporates it. It's creepy, it makes Bruce and Barbara seem like total scumbags, and it's always added to create fake tension and drama.
@@willfanofmanyii3751 It's still absolutely horrible though, and it seems like all of the potential love interests in this movie are a bit younger than I'm comfortable with. Especially when Sonia talks about how Batman saved her, and says she was living with her parents. It implies she was a kid or young adult at the time, and at the oldest, she still would've been too young for Bruce, who at this point has been active for 15 years. DCAU Bruce was active for ten years at the start of B:TAS, presumably starting in 1982. Dick became Robin when he was 9 or 10 and is 18-20 in B:TAS. This film either takes place during TNBA or Justice League. If it's set during TNBA, Bruce would have around 15 years of experience and be 35 (He was 20-ish in the Mask of the Phantasm flashbacks.), if it's set during JL, specifically in the year the movie released (2003), he'd be 41 and it would be exactly 21 years into his career as Batman. Alan Burnett has stated that he saw this as giving Batman a gift for how the show's crew had teased him for years by "re-channeling his sex drive to fight crime."
Kaznia is a fictional country that comes up quite a few times in the DCAU. They were the country at the very beginning of Superman TAS that were trying to get weapons from Lex Luthor by staging a theft with John Corben(Metallo).
Yes, Bruce and Barbara are together in the DCAU. Which makes sense, since Batgirl was designed to be a girlfriend for Batman, and they are much much closer in age than Dick and Barbara. Like Barbara is a college student who already has a degree I think by the time she first shows up as Batgirl. She's like 22. And at that point Dick Grayson is like 14. Bruce is only like 3 years older than her. Like don't forget, when Bruce's parents were murdered, and he was just a little kid, Jim Gordon was already a full grown adult detective. They may be allies and friends, but Jim Gordon is way way older than Bruce Wayne. Which is why his daughter is about Bruce Wayne's age. There's still technically one more DCAU Batman movie to watch. Batman & Harley Quinn. People are pretty mixed on if they like it or not. But that's true of this movie too. I think they're both pretty good.
5:02 Hot take: I like this batmobile way more than the original. I know it’s iconic but it just looks weird to me. It’s too long. And it kinda doesn’t even look like a batmobile other than the tiny wings in back.
A switch must of hit on Bruce timm bc it feels like he was shipping batman x catwoman for a couple seasons then out of the blue he was shipping batman with Barbara
7:50 - 8:11; 38:52 - 40:39: Introducing, the worst added aspect of the DCAU lore, imo. Because the problem here is that Bruce knew Barb since she was basically a child. Also yeah, it's basically your son's ex sooo......yeeeaahhh......
@@toonman5099 To clarify, This was established years before this movie came out in Batman Beyond. It's not a good pairing but it was definitely not introduced in this film in the context of the DCAU.

I hate anything that makes the Batgirl Batman relationship a canon thing.I do know this came after something else that did it first ,though so I understand keeping the canon but its one of the things I wish was retconed.
boy, they're watching the DCAU in their own special order. technically this movie is post JLU, pre-BB. And yet, to watch this in a proper first-watch order, they have to watch BB _before_ JL.
The Barbara and Bruce thing is something from Bruce Timm, is weird and nobody but him want them toguether. im a big Batman and Batgirl fan and i have never in my life read a comic of them getting toguether that isnt "Batman animated series" related. Barbara, besides having a relationship with Dick, in the cannon of the comics have date Luke Fox (Lucius Fox son), Ted Kord (the Blue Beatle before Jaime Reyes), have a hook up with Jason Todd (post robin, in his current redhood person era) and i even think she even date a now retcon Penguin son, and if we see others materials she have dated an age apropiate Tim Drake in the Arkhan games and funny enought she, and this is not a joke, have dated superman in another universe. With Batman we all know his body count, but never Barbara, in almost every iteration she is a minor when he met her and the daugther of probably his best non superhero friends, not to count the terrible power dinamic when he is esencially his mentor or inspiration in almost every version.
It’s not just a Bruce Timm thing though. Several, if not most, of the episodes that even kinda hint at Barbara having a thing for Bruce, or later in Beyond them having been a thing at some point, weren’t worked on by Timm and at absolute minimum several other writers would have had to be on beard with the idea.
@ he was one of the creators and tecnically the showrunner, and again the problem is that are usually works that he is envolve either as a writer, the creator, or even the producer have this subplot, the biggest evidence will always be the Killing joke adaptation when he practically created a whole new epiloge just for them to bone, and especially weird because that movie isnt in the BAS continuity so you cant say is already cannon.
@@andresfelipemanjarres7061 He was one producer out of like four and I’ve never seen anything suggesting that he told the writers to add relationship. As for stuff he’s involved in also having that relationship, by that logic Alan Burnett is even more guilty. Burnett was also a producer on BTAS, Batman Beyond AND The Killing Joke as well as being the writer for Mystery of the Batwoman which Tim had no involvement with because he was busy with JLU I believe. If we’re going to declare any singular individual to be responsible for the Bruce/Barbara stuff it’s Alan Burnett but more realistically it was a group effort and for whatever reason Timm just became the scapegoat. And regarding The Killing Joke, all of that was written by Brian Azzarello. All Timm, and again Burnett as well, did was not say no.
Love this movie but the Barbra and bruce ship is the worst thing Bruce timm ever made for this animated series like its gross, they even refernce it again in the Killing Joke movie with a sex scene its just wrong and weird doesn't matter how old Barbra is
In my opinion ,I always feel this batman movie stand out less, because there are so many batman fans like other works, still it's a good movie, I enjoy it, when I watch it for the first time as a kid, that twist really helped film plot.
I would say of all the original DC animated universe films, this is probably the weakest standing but it's a fun adventure nonetheless. I think this might be one of the last project before the infamous "bat-bargo" with bat related characters outside of Batman were not allowed to appear in other animated projects while 2004's "The Batman" and The dark Knight trilogy were being aired/in the works.
You know, since you guys watched this movie of the New Batman adventures season of Batman the animated series, and if you guys get to ever watch Batman beyond, I'd recommend you guys to watch "Batman beyond: Return of the Joker".
After you finish Superman I can't wait for Batman Beyond hopefully next. Just to clear up the confusion, the show came out and is meant to be watched before Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
it was interesting to watch back then but yeah this was my least favorite one set in the DC animated universe. That and Brainiac Attacks. Between Mask of Phantasm, Sub-Zero and Return of the Joker, those were the better films. Looking at this again, didn't realize Penguin's voice was changed to a different actor.
I dislike this movie because of one particular scene, where Barbara called Bruce. It was established that they were having a relationship, and I physically repulsed.
@ surprisingly, I don’t hate Batman Beyond. I love BB Universe. As you can see from the comments, many people hates Barbara and Bruce relationship and only that.

8:24-14:43 except Clark's dorky and acted like a klutz on purpose to blend in so nobody would be suspicious of him being Superman
Im so happy you guys are back to these movies. I cant wait for you to finish tge orhers and watch Hush. Thats one of my favorites..
OMG this is a great unexpected surprise.
Great reaction. You guys gotta do batman beyond
Or worse... EXPELLED 😂😂
A switch must of hit on Bruce timm bc it feels like he was shipping batman x catwoman for a couple seasons then out of the blue he was shipping batman with Barbara
7:50 - 8:11; 38:52 - 40:39:
Introducing, the worst added aspect of the DCAU lore, imo.
@@The_Phantasm I know, I'm talking about in the context for the dudes. I don't know whoever reads the comments for the channel though, but it's very much "this is me saying as if I was with them as a guest since this is the first experience they have of this plot point idea."
Granted it doesn't help they've been watching Batman and Superman out of production order in terms of DCAU stuff. Seriously they better watch Beyond after Superman. If people vote Justice League before Beyond Imma be a bit upset. Not sure when a good idea to watch Static or Zeta would be. I'm assuming both after Beyond and MAYBE before JL?
Happy New Year Team🎉🎉
Underrated DC film
Not my favorite of the DCAU movies but its a lot of fun, I like the digital art look. Rupert Thorne never thought we'd see him again. Smartest Goon to ever Goon in Gotham
This movie feels like they wanted to write a James Bond story, if that makes sense?
Unfortunate that they didn't look up who Kyra Sedgwick was :p
there is Batman and Harley Quen movie is after this. and Justise League vs the Fatal five that is the last piece of media on this continuity
I always loved this Batwoman suit but it looks a little too futuristic to be contemporary. It should have been used for a Batwoman Beyond design.
I hate anything that makes the Batgirl Batman relationship a canon thing.I do know this came after something else that did it first ,though so I understand keeping the canon but its one of the things I wish was retconed.
Also, isnt Duquesne (sp?) what Ras called himself in Batman Begins? Havent watched in quite awhile and my memory is crap.
No, that was "Henri Ducard", which is actually the name of another comic book character who taught young Bruce Wayne things.
@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps thanks for clarifying for me. 😁😁
5:08 - Anybody else getting ZSJL flashbacks? LMFAO
boy, they're watching the DCAU in their own special order. technically this movie is post JLU, pre-BB. And yet, to watch this in a proper first-watch order, they have to watch BB _before_ JL.
Did they react to the Catwoman short that was included with this movie?
Amination will always win over live action. When it comes to comic movies.
Are you going to react to Justice league show in the future ?
Its canon in the Batman Beyond Universe, they were together for a time.
Please react to Batman Beyond and the movie
Hopefully they will react to Justice league animated series and Justice League Unlimited after, that would be amazing
Can you guys react to Batman Beyond?
I would say of all the original DC animated universe films, this is probably the weakest standing but it's a fun adventure nonetheless. I think this might be one of the last project before the infamous "bat-bargo" with bat related characters outside of Batman were not allowed to appear in other animated projects while 2004's "The Batman" and The dark Knight trilogy were being aired/in the works.
I hope you guys will watch the batman 2004 series down the line
You know, since you guys watched this movie of the New Batman adventures season of Batman the animated series, and if you guys get to ever watch Batman beyond, I'd recommend you guys to watch "Batman beyond: Return of the Joker".
After you finish Superman I can't wait for Batman Beyond hopefully next. Just to clear up the confusion, the show came out and is meant to be watched before Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
Ooh this one
I rather see a reaction Batman The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and Part 2, also Batman: Year One
Oh Eric… in the tie-comics Bruce and Barbra have slept together and she got pregnant
Not canon.
@ yeah probably is, in Batman Beyond it’s confirmed they fooled around
GUYS PLEASE FINISH THE DCAU!!! YOU NEED TO WATCH APOKOLYPSE WARRRRRRR
Apokalips War is a DCAMU movie, not DCAU
@ yep forgot a letter lol
@ they stopped the DCAMU like 8 months ago they only have a couple movies left to finish it out 😭
And Batman the return of the joker but that is a movie of Batman Beyond but you have to watch batman beyond tv show first.
Definitely the weakest of the Batman films from the DCAU. But still enjoyable!
it was interesting to watch back then but yeah this was my least favorite one set in the DC animated universe. That and Brainiac Attacks. Between Mask of Phantasm, Sub-Zero and Return of the Joker, those were the better films. Looking at this again, didn't realize Penguin's voice was changed to a different actor.
Did u already watch sub zero with Mr freeze
Yes, they did
I dislike this movie because of one particular scene, where Barbara called Bruce. It was established that they were having a relationship, and I physically repulsed.
You must hate the Batman Beyond universe then lol
@ surprisingly, I don’t hate Batman Beyond. I love BB Universe. As you can see from the comments, many people hates Barbara and Bruce relationship and only that.
@@123haninhk I don't see the point of people who obsess over it though, its not like its an ongoing relationship in that universe.
@@Seek1878 then what’s the point of a fandom then? We’re allowed to criticize the showrunner for being icky and writing bad characterization just like any other fandoms.
@ Its fine to dislike it but the obsession is weird.
"She was with Dick" She is not anymore. Here is wen Timm put that creepy thing between Bruce and Barbara. they "had" something. You have to watch the continuation of Batman the show Batman the new adventures. Bruce Timm is the first on make that implication the dude have som kinky fetiche thing with Batgirl.
Plis guys you NEED react to batman beyond serie, its just build diferent
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
