Thabk you for this. This was the only guide I found to help me install the newest 64bit firmware for the RG35XX SP. I was so confused as i forgot the Z files were for 7zip even though i already had it.
I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the .zip file in the folder with the 7zip files is just the first part of a multi part archive. So it's not really in there twice, and you didn't actually need 7zip. The normal method for opening this archive would be to just open the zip file, which will automatically pull data from the other parts. In this case 7zip is kinda more of a alternative, or workaround.
Thanks for this, I was having trouble finding any videos how to update stock FW. They all seem to be about CFW. I ordered mine Saturday. Now its just the long waiting game as it ships from China!
Just to point out... the archive you are decompressing at around @4:20. The first .zip file is the first part of a compressed and parted file. It's normal and windows uses the built in decompression program to recombine the first .zip file with the following .z01 etc. files. Or you could use winrar to open the first .zip file and decompress it.. or you can use 7zip to open the .zip file and decompress... etc. etc. Basically, nothing "strange" was done here and this is typical of a compressed and parted file.
It would be more efficient and better on their bandwidth if they had multiple download links with the actual image (not one image with 3 different types).... Thanks for the info 'Stay Nerdy' 🙂
No. You need a device that can both read and write to an SD card. Over-the-air updates aren't working for any of the software options. MuOS just introduced a way to update by putting the update file in the archive manager so switching to that could be a good option for the future.
I just got my RG35XXSP I open it and the screen keeps going to sleep this is driving me nuts and I can’t do anything with my new device how do I fix this issue
I have 2 SD cards, one 64GB (stock ROMS) and one 128GB (downloaded ROMS), should I update both? I updated the 64GB card hat came preloaded and after flashing it with BalenaEtcher (I'm on macOS), the card went from 64GB to 2GB, as shown in the system settings on my RG35XX-SP. My questions: 1) Why did it drop to 2GB? 2) Should I also update the second card? or can I leave it as is?
The new image is only 16GB so the primary partition you can load to is 2GB. Currently 45GB is left unallocated and I have not found a way to expand the 2GB partition.
@@chanteln8694 if it is a blue kioxia card, then there won't be any issues hopefully cause its a sub-brand of toshiba. if its an unbranded black card, then best to switch it out.
Thanks for the video, helped me figure their weird stuff out lol. It looks like unpacking the zip file actually uses those .z fragment files, so you don't actually need to use 7zip on them. Really weird way they set that up though.
Anbernic specifically says on their website that if you install the 16GB update on a bigger card, the rest of the capacity on that card will be unusable. The 64GB OS they offer is the same way. It has a preset ROMs partition of 46GB and there's no obvious way of expanding the partition. This leaves you with a few options: 1) The first will be to go buy a 16 or 32GB MicroSD from Walmart (or your local equivalent) for around $5. Flash the 16GB OS to it and use your other bigger card in Slot 2 as your ROMs container. This issue with this is, if I'm reading correctly, not only are you not getting ROMs you're also not getting BIOS files with the 16GB firmware. It'll be kind of annoying to set up, but doable. 2) The easiest solution will be to flash the 64GB version of the OS to a 64GB card. You can use the one that came with it or buy a new one for under $10 at any big box store. That'll get you all of the games, box art, and BIOS files you'll need to get going easily. If you need more space for more games then put another card in Slot 2. 3) The final option you have IRT stock firmware is to spend some more time researching if someone else has figured out how to expand the ROMs partition. Expanding a partition is usually easy; but, the way they have these units configured means that here not so much. Maybe someone else has figured it out? 4) These Anbernic XX Series handhelds have a plethora of custom firmware options. I haven't dabbled much with then yet because I really like the stock OS; but, I'm sure at least one of these custom OSes has an easily expandable ROMs partition.
If you want a better user experience in general I would install MuOS! The rom section doesn't have to be set up in a specific way! You just copy and paste whatever folder structure you prefer and bam all will show in the explore content page. Also, MuOS has the best Portmaster experience I have had so far. All of the games I wanted like Shovelknight, Stardew, and TMNT Shredders Revenge run perfectly unlike Knulli and Stock. They are having issues with Ports that have the files on a second SD but it's actively being looked into.
What firmware allows the power button tap function? So I can turn my d pad to analog. Mine came with version 1.3 and the joy pad did not work. I also tried to map it under the settings. But that did not work for me, unless I'm doing it wrong. I updated and I still can't get it to work. I'll keep trying, I did contact Anbernic and the site I bought it from. Just in case it's a flaw or they have any ideas. Also when I open my RA folder on main menu. It does not see the SD cards. It shows up blank. I have to open Retroarch under settings to get it to play games. Am I doing something wrong? Really liked your straight forward video and vibes. Thank you for any help. I'll see what Anbernic says too.

The reason its split up into so many pieces is so that it can fit on an exFAT or FAT32 storage solution (where individual file sizes are limited to 4gb.) Of course you still cant extract and compile them together on such a storage device but yeah lol

Anbernic's XX handhelds use a preset partition size and it's next to impossible to expand it. This means that whatever space is unused on the card is wasted. The easiest answer is to buy a new card that more closely matches the size of the OS you're using (16 or 32GB for the 16GB OS, or, 64GB for the 64GB OS) and then put your 128GB card in Slot 2.
