The biggest misstep they took was actually the fact that they wanted to make a transmedia universe of interconnected stories. Usually a series has to get popular first before it can spawn sequels and venture into other forms of media
that was ea's plan with dead space because ea was just so desperate for a hit they put out like a cartoon and a comic book and some other crap which never caught on, but luckily the game was a success

They are still making buckets of money because of Elden Ring (they publish the game for FromSoftware) and making buckets of money from their own games like Tekken 8 and they are still making money from other properties they own like Pac-Man. However, hopefully they are looking at this Unknown 9 situation and are using this as a learning experience so they don't go further knee deep into the DEI cesspool and stay out.

I'm an indie game dev, and game designer. I've not played Unknown 9, but when I watched videos of it and I could see that the chasm jumping in the game is not actually controlled by the player, but the player just presses a button, to make the "Player Character" jump the chasm automatically, I face palmed. Maybe this is one reason why the game failed. :P

Last game I remember trying what Unknown 9 did was Kingdoms of Amalur... That was a decent game but still could not pull it off. Unknown 9 had 0% chance of actually doing what they wanted. Its not like they were starting with Tolkien or something.

It's sad that "'gamers' don't have to be your audience", rather than having been relegated to the annals of history, has been embraced more and more by game studios. Somehow they have been convinced that these 'gamers' that they hate so much form a microscopic minority of their customers, and thus they can deride and insult them as much as they want.
Although sick baby claim to have 30 more games on the go, this does not mean new contracts, they might not be getting any but claiming this number to help get them work
oh no, i was looking forward to Unknown 10: Second Alarm, along with everyone else who just happened to busy whenever Unknown 9 was present.
Last game I remember trying what Unknown 9 did was Kingdoms of Amalur... That was a decent game but still could not pull it off. Unknown 9 had 0% chance of actually doing what they wanted. Its not like they were starting with Tolkien or something.
Unknown 9 was one of those wild ones... just the sheer amount of unasked for building out like cinematic universe levels of building out unnecessary crap. Like wachowski brothers layering sh*t on the matrix level of tacked on crap. All with a completely untested product. What were they thinking?
If game devs need to hire a consultancy group in the first place then that is worrying within itself.
I had to google this game in the middle of the video cuz this thing flew so far under the radar it might as well of spawned 6 ft under.
They did not put the cart before the horse, they did not even have a cart made or a horse to carry it to town they just ran like insane people do, and no one seemed to want to stop them and save them, they just watched them run into the quicksand and die.
How the hell is it always like this? How people that were right always devolve into morons? Literally everything under the stars shows that studios go woke and then hire SBI that has pretty much no power, can make some small cosmetic suggestions and that's all. Yet this side of internet developed SBIDS- SBI derangment syndrome. No-one else is guilty, SBI is evil, wrong and behind every failure. Without SBI on board games like DA:tV or U9 would be awesome...

I mean in this case I think it wouldn't even have matterd if there was DEI or not, the game was just straight up awful. Just shows how detached from reality these studios are, if they think this slop is gonna be the next big hit.

Imagine focusing on a multi-media universe before actually having an initial success to prove your concept and lay the groundwork. Maybe they should have focused all their energy into one truly good thing. Instead they were to ambitious, their reach exceeded their grasp. And failure was the inevitable result.
Instead of blaming sbi they will blame the gamer's calling us all kinds of name's instead of blaming sbi and themselves.
Honestly this is a good move, but as good a move this is their next move will probably be as terrible as the move to make unknown 9 lol
