I'll at least give Triton credit here; when he was telling Ariel that she was forbidden to have any contact with humans, he at least was honest enough with her to tell her WHY he was doing it. He mentioned specifically fishhooks, harpoons, and the fact that humans eat fish. Fair enough. Ariel on the other hand told Melody that she was forbidden from going into the ocean because it was dangerous, and backed that up with little more than 'because I said so.' There was no reason not to tell Melody that she was safer on land because there was a deranged monster living in the ocean that had already tried to kill her once and was bent on making another attempt the first chance she got. Most 12-year-olds, even the rebellious ones, would see that as a pretty good reason and probably go along with it.
I honestly like that they got the same voice actress for Morgana, because it’s true to how sisters can be. My sister and I sound exactly the same, to the point that family members cannot tell us apart on the phone.
i agree with a lot of this but it's funny that you said morgana isn't that much of a threat/villain when she held melody over a shark in the beginning and was willing to let her drown towards the end
There is a '70s anime version of The Little mermaid as well and that one is wild. It follows the book a bit more closely. But it is still pretty strange
I love how thoughtful your analysis is for this movie. 10/10

This movie was one of my childhood favorites 😂 I don't disagree that it's a bad movie, though
Okay, but in the first movie, Prince Eric 100% can hear Sebastian. He literally hears him say Ariel’s name during “kiss the girl”
holy shit you've perfectly articulated why I hated this movie
