While this would perhaps never go down as a story of legend, but it would be the most relatable story to millions badminton players around the globe. We all grew up, have our share of love badminton, but few us managed to break out of the system and continue their badminton dream like you did. Bravo Howard, I am happy to see your dream complete in more ways than one.
Beyond comprehension. Possibly the best short film I've watched and the most inspiring one as well. Howard, you inspired me to re-play my sport that was my obsession from a small boy, table tennis. I was playing district tournaments after district, eventually making it to a city championship where I lost all my motivation for sports for a long time. After seeing this video, there were tons of emotions exploding inside, inspired, determination, heartfelt, and even warmth. Your story will definitely change and influence kids around the world, to chase their dreams, and even me, as a high school student. Thank you Howard.
“Success isn’t measured by wins or losses but found thru fulfillment and happiness. Going beyond what I thought was possible what others thought was possible” This spoke to me. I’m in my mid 40s and returned to competitive tennis 2 years ago. Last time I did this was in high school. Losing many times and to people who didn’t play better and to opponents younger than me took a big beating out of my own self esteem and ego even tho I kept telling myself I shouldn’t be measuring success this way. You are right, it should be about self fulfillment and happiness. To pick up the rackets again after such a long lay off and a major life saving surgery 2 years ago, I’ve learnt to recognise that I’ve gone beyond what I (and my doctors) thought was possible from a physical and medical perspective and that itself is worth more than the wins. Looking back it’s also about the journey too - all the rollercoaster emotions This video is inspirational and we should all dare to chase our dreams
Congrats! Even getting to the Olympics as a North American badminton player is a massive achievement. I'm a Canadian and our badminton scene is pretty descent, but obviously nothing compared to overseas(Euro and asia). It's a shame the US doesnt have more resources available to push young talent to greater heights. You lived the dream!
As a full time Engineer and a Badminton athlete, I couldn't relate more. I wish you all the success in your next journey. Thank you for this great film.
Howard! thank you for sharing your truly inspirational story! i think i speak for the Canyon Class of '09 we are truly proud of you! Congratulations on all your success. bro it was an honor to set an alarm to the 2am to wake up and see a peer on my television in the Olympics while i quietly cheer hoping not to wake the entire neighborhood! Im proud of you brotha. thank you for sharing you story!
Howard I am a 50yr old that started my badminton journey during the pandemic. Currently beating my own coaches and much much younger club players while also handling several businesses. When something is blended with happiness, a miracle happens. Congratulations!
Thank you for always inspiring Howard! I watch all of your videos, but this one really lit the fire in my heart to strive even harder in Badminton. I am 25 years old from Indonesia, been dreaming to compete in a tournament ever since I was in middle school but never got a chance because my parents pretty much disagree with my decision to wanting to go further with Badminton. But next week I am going to have my first real local tournament, and I am looking forward to it! Please keep making content and keep inspiring others. Cause I am inspired to inspire others too! Blessings🔥🔥
love it. Howard you inspire me too. I'm a second-generation Taiwanese-Canadian, and I know the struggle that badminton athletes in North America and USA don't have a lot of sponsorships to support their career but you've found a way to make it work. You are so motivated and disciplined to make it to the Olympics NOT ONCE BUT TWICE while balancing university at UCLA and consulting. That's insane. I love it whenever a North American promotes the sport of badminton. It is ambitious and daunting. Totally an uphill climb. But your dreams have come to fruition, and you won our hearts. I know it's immensely difficult for badminton athletes past 30 years old to compete at the highest level of the sport, but your resilience gives me the vibe of Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan and Lee Chong Wei (MAS). Amazing!!! I hope you keep playing competitively and inspire more players around the world. Thank you for sharing this moment. Who's your badminton idol?
This is really inspiring. The rules apply beyond badminton, and how amazing you have been to chase the Olympic dreams and work in a consulting firm at the same time!
Howard, thank you so much for sharing your story through this short film. Thank you for representing USA badminton, you are paving the path for other upcoming badminton players.
Hey bro, I'm a 13 year old badminton player from Texas too. I'm playing in the U15 category and I enjoy every moment of badminton, this movie that u made has been really inspirational so thank you so much for making a video that shows my dreams of a badminton player in the Olympics.
Good luck to your future. Am glad that you're the better part in the history of badminton. The second last scene is especially powerful, most people would think that road of a professional shuttler is flat and smooth but really it's an incredibly uphill climb every step of the way.
Wow, what a slap in the face... The end of the video made me shed a little tear 🥲 Congratulations on your journey... signed... A French badminton player
What a beautiful film! You did the very best you could in all the challenges your faced! Congratulations. There is more to life now. You have a beautiful family, there is a lot more parenting and coaching that you will surpass when you pass on your skills to your kids (if they decide to choose that).
Such a beautiful, inspiring movie ! ❤You were one of my favourite players. 😄Thank you for being the sport you were ! Currently, I am at a stage similar to where you were once, unsure whether to go ahead and pursue my olympic dream or keep climbing up the corporate ladder 🥺
Amazing editing and shots! super inspiring, especially for those in the U.S. where badminton is unfortunately not as popular, thank you for promoting and growing the sport 👏
Thanks for sharing. Coming from a badminton nation of Malaysia, it is great to see North America is embracing badminton. I do agree badminton is not as lucrative as tennis but it is an exciting racket sport that has long history in the making. Now that you have tasted and experienced badminton in your younger years, perhaps your next journey is to bring this passion of yours to the next level by lifting the next generation of American of badminton players by providing them with more resources of training and development that you did not fully benefit from your own generation. I cannot stress strong enough that bringing in top coaches to train the players and setting up the right environment for the younger players to develop to become world class player are so critically important. Malaysia would not be able to consistently produce world class top players without consistent investment in training and development for the players. Having great mentor or coach is immensely important to the success of the players. Well, saying is easier than actually making it a reality. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Thanks again.
inspirational stuff, it made me reflect on my time playing badminton professionally and how i drifted away from it. hoping to get back on the court soon congrats on your badminton career, brother wishing you all the best in whatever lies beyond the sport loved the visuals and editing, big up playbook creative
Howard thank you! I am from france and i love your video and this documentary is really inspiring me to chase my badminton dream and being better every day 🙂
"Success isn’t measured by wins or losses but found thru fulfillment and happiness." Well said. Parents couldn't afford it, so never really did any sports growing up. Nevertheless I was always happy playing outside. About two years ago, in some random fashion, I got introduced to badminton. I know I will never be able to compete on any high or even medium level, but I'm having a great time on the court. Met some great people playing at my local club, enjoy watching and discussing matches. I play with joy and am still improving every time.
For those who understand the badminton landscape in the US, We thank those like Howard and Phillip Chew for paving the way for the future of US badminton. Thank you Howard ( US Singles GOAT)
Really nice short film. This short film just inspire me, beacuse i have not be the best badminton player, i have played it for around like 7 + years and i have a dream for my sport, but i feel ive never get that dream come true. But this short film have inspire me more. I have get glose to give up becuse i have always be a ranked c player in DK for many years but i have never, have that thing so i can get a good player. But thanks to give me some very nice motivation to keep fightning and not give up. 🔥🔥
Broo I love your videos especially the video on the comfort Z3 and the Yonex pro tournament bag comparison, I've watched them like more than 20 times I have both 😂🎉

Absolute cinema, hands down best film I've watched in a while.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😄
As someone who is balancing between corporate life and dream life, this film is a massive inspiration. ❤
Don't give up on either, you can do it!

Tbh most of the countries in asia don't even support the player's hard works resulting in many asian players switching representing countries
