In the beautiful plains of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is the holy abode of Mother Girija Devi. This divine temple of the goddess is located in Sunderkhal village, about 15 km from the Ramnagar tehsil headquarters of Nainital district, which is built on a very small mound. This temple of Mata is just 10 km away from Corbett National Park. This temple of Mata Parvati, built in the middle of the Kosi river in the lush green forests, is known by the local people as the temple of Garjiya Mata. Devotees have to climb 90 steps to reach Mata's court to see the mother. Since it is built on a very small hill, only one devotee can climb up these straight climbing stairs at a time.
This temple of Mata Girija is full of miracles. It is believed that the mound on which this temple of Mata is built, once separated from a mountain section, came here while flowing. Seeing the temple flowing along the mound, Lord Bhairav ​​said "Thi Rau, Baina Thi Rau" meaning 'Stay, stay sister' to stop it. It is believed that after accepting the request of Lord Bhairav, the mother has been residing here with him since then. It is believed that the holy idol of the mother was found during the excavation here. The temple of Lord Bhairav ​​is also built just below this holy abode of Mata. It is believed that the worship of the mother is completed only after seeing Lord Bhairav. Special khichdi prasad is offered to Lord Bhairon here.
माता गिरिजा का यह मंदिर चमत्कारों से भरा है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि जिस टीले पर माता का यह मंदिर बना है, वह कभी एक पर्वत खंड से अलग होकर बहते हुए यहां आया था। मंदिर को टीले के साथ बहता देख भगवान भैरव ने कहा "थी राऊ, बैना थी राऊ" जिसका अर्थ है 'रहना, बहन रहना' इसे रोकने के लिए। ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान भैरव के अनुरोध को स्वीकार करने के बाद, माता तब से यहां उनके साथ निवास कर रही हैं। ऐसा माना जाता है कि यहां खुदाई के दौरान मां की पवित्र मूर्ति मिली थी। माता के इस पवित्र धाम के ठीक नीचे भगवान भैरव का मंदिर भी बना हुआ है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान भैरव के दर्शन करने से ही मां की पूजा पूरी होती है। यहां भगवान भैरों को विशेष खिचड़ी प्रसाद चढ़ाया जाता है।
देवभूमि उत्तराखंड के खूबसूरत मैदानों में मां गिरिजा देवी का पावन वास है। देवी का यह दिव्य मंदिर नैनीताल जिले के रामनगर तहसील मुख्यालय से लगभग 15 किमी दूर सुंदरखाल गांव में स्थित है, जो एक बहुत ही छोटे से टीले पर बना है। माता का यह मंदिर कॉर्बेट नेशनल पार्क से मात्र 10 किमी दूर है। हरे भरे जंगलों में कोसी नदी के बीच में बने माता पार्वती के इस मंदिर को स्थानीय लोग गर्जिया माता के मंदिर के नाम से जानते हैं। माता के दर्शन के लिए भक्तों को माता के दरबार तक पहुंचने के लिए 90 सीढ़ियां चढ़नी पड़ती हैं। चूंकि यह एक बहुत छोटी पहाड़ी पर बना है, इसलिए एक बार में इन सीधी चढ़ाई वाली सीढ़ियों पर केवल एक ही भक्त चढ़ सकता है।

रामनगर तक रेल सेवा उपलब्ध है। इसके अलावा बस या टैक्सी के माध्यम से भी आप गर्जिया देवी मंदिर तक पहुंच सकते हैं। गर्जिया देवी मंदिर रामनगर से 13 किमी और नैनीताल से 75 किमी की दूरी पर स्थित है
