What bikes are out there to take on an around-the-world trip? Something to tackle paved roads to deserts and swamps. Something that is stone-cold reliable. Here's a list and my pick.
Man you have a world tour bike... your V-strom 1000.. that is most than enough for any roads.. with the proper tires.. confy and torky.. low on fuel mileage.. if i'll go around the world on a bike.. V-trom DL1000 2002-2007 would be my choice.
I agree, and was going to post the same thing until I saw your comment. Both of those bikes are tough as nails and super reliable, and parts are available all over the world.

Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled for power or KLR650 for reliability. Similar weight and comfort.
What do you think of KTM backing out of McGregor's world tour? Probably worried of breakdowns.
Klr650 or vstrom 650 would be my choice because I know both bikes from experience
