I remember reading how some of the people would “hide” in the gravel that way the dogs wouldn’t get depressed and get their reward for finding someone

I can think of nothing worse than waking up under rubble or snow, pinned down by debris, injured, in pain, distress and unable to signal for help. Imagine surviving a bomb blast, avalanche, hurricane or flood etc. The isolation and loneliness must be unbearable. To hear above you, someone or something scratching, perhaps the intermittent feeling of warm breath, then barking. It would surely sound like an angel calling. My heart goes out to these heroic dogs and to the dedicated men or women who care for them. May God bless and keep you always.

Thank you .This was one of the most poignant of 9/11 documentaries. The bond between the dog and handler. The fact the dogs role changed over time from rescue to cadaver and then to therapy. Animals are so misunderstood and under used. I've seen wonderful results in hospitals, care facilities, hospice and even prisons.

@@LadyPercy. I completely agree. We have a documentary on our channel called forgotten heroes and explores the importance of a bond between a handler and a working dog. It's about working dogs in Vietnam. The light these animals bring us is remarkable. Would love to know what you think of it :)

That sounds very interesting I will try and source that. I grew up in a very dog centric household. After military service my father was a part time dog breeder and handler. Working and Utility dogs were his passion. I have two Springer Spaniels and a rescue Pug with an identity crisis. Breaks my heart to see and hear about abandoned and abused animals. They give us humans so much and ask for very little in return.

It's crazy to see how despite the times and the technology, no one can make a better bond than men and animals. These service dogs work hard just like everyone else on that hurtful day to find survivors and bodies as well so no one would be left behind..
These it's one of the reasons why I'm pursuing a career as a veterinarian to help these angels and on a way to thank them for being so loyal.

We are able to do this because we are animals, much smarter than others (not by too much actually let me rephrase) and we know how to use our intelligence to gain power, we made dogs this way and yet we abandon them and hurt and kill them. What was the point of domesticating these loyal and loving dogs??

    • @davidandmarino

No1dogMom 2016 dog paw pads are naturally stronger than any shoes we can give them and it’d likely hinder their ability to traverse that dangerous terrain... remember those doggos are trained pros 💪🏼😊

@@87rbm89: Dear, you are walking your dogs on smooth surfaces and in safety is so different than conducting search, rescue and hopefully, recvery. These dogs utilize sensors in their feet (like the hairs between their toes); as intensely as they do their eyes, ears and noses. The dog is a detection system in one amazing creation.
