    Why he does not drive along the row?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You risk running over more plants following the row then just going at an angle you know you’re only knocking down to plants at a time. If you follow the road and get off track you can knock down 100 feet in a matter of seconds before you get back on course.

    I wonder what happened to all the truck style sprayers I used to see? They had huge flotation tires on them. Some were 4-wheeled Terra Gators, others were not. But now all I see are these high clearance tractor type sprayers with the skinny wheels. Wouldn't something with flotation tires be better for beans & small grains?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The high clearance sprayer has been out in full force since the mid 1990s and some even before that. With so many used models out there it’s the way to go for many farms. The skiing tires fit between the crop rows where floaters would mash them. This farm runs floaters on the R4045s on early wheat applications in the winter and to spray corn seed beds before planting.

    • @1d1hamby
      @1d1hamby 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Humans eat less than 5% of the soybeans. Soybeans mostly are grown to feed almost all the poultry the world consumes. Pigs, cows, fish and pets eat a good portion. Oil is used to cook many foods and make diesel.

    • @bigtractorpower

      The spraying is 6 times. Wheat is sprayed in January, March, April and May. Then soybeans are sprayed in July and August. One pass for soybean seeding in June.

    @JohnDoe-jq5wy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why isn't the machine following the rows

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because they set a foot print to spray the first time they fertilize in January and run the same path in March, April and May as they spray wheat. Then when the beans go in over the cut wheat they spray the beans twice. It all works out well.

    • @JohnDoe-jq5wy

      Ok, makes sence, thank you

    • @piperdoug428
      @piperdoug428 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also if you run a sprayer on the skinnies (like Matt was here) and you are following the seeded rows the Auto Steer can fight with the indentation in the dirt from the seeder opener and you start getting a "Boogie" going on, which flaps the booms left n right.

    • @JoshuaSmith-xw6jp
      @JoshuaSmith-xw6jp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus it's hard to keep it between the rows at those speeds and rather than taking out an entire row it's better to just go across them. Controlled loss if that makes sense.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In 20 years of photographing and filming double crop beans I have only seen two years end in a wipe out. Drought years that also ruined corn in 2007 and 2012 produced 5 to 10 bu double crop beans. All the other years they have been 50 bu. Or better. The last few years they have been in the 60s.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4940 has the same capacity of the R4045. This farm went from 4710s to 4920s to 4930s to 4940s to R4045s. I am hoping to see an R4060 next year.

    How does these chemicals affect the honey bees and other insects that spread pollen and use the nectar?

    • @tctarheelfarmin358
      @tctarheelfarmin358 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These chemicals affect diseases that grow on plants. When it comes to pollination, there is little affect. If it killed of the insects, you wouldnt have crops year after year.

      Wow I couldn't imagine that. That's over 4 square miles how awesome! That sure kills our 60@ field averages. Our biggest is around 300@

      It’s a controlled spray pattern putting the tires in the same spot each time to apply products on wheat in January, Mach, April, May and then on the second crop of soybeans in July and August. Minimal impact on the over all crop.
