The very first time I listened to The Sword a friend rode along for some of my pizza delivery shifts…he’s like “hey put this in dude”, cause you know I had the CD player rolling still back then…WOW…”I need this”. To this day if I’m randomly rocking the sword loud and within earshot….”whoa dude what is that!?” Are words I may hear from older metal heads working loading docks for what I deliver now. #TheSwordWillNeverDie
So true. Saw them with Priestess and Early. Man on a small club tour then opening for Metallica. It was all about losing that drummer and being recorded to cleanly after the first 2 albums
They don't play this live anymore which is a shame. But we got to hang with them on their last tour and they played it for me and a couple mates at soundcheck! Greatest dudes I've ever met.
Trivet Wingo is such a badass. I feel like The Sword would have evolved a completely different way had he stuck around. To be completely honest, even though Trivet wasnt' involved, Apocryphon was the last The Sword album I truly enjoyed and obsessed over.
If you told these guys at the time of this video that they would tour the world with Metallica, they all prob would have laughed. Amazing how far these four guys have come
I was fortunate enough to be at this show!!! I'm the tallest dude in the middle of the stage and that's me screaming before the heavy bit takes off. The guy were super awesome and it was great to see them at that time. They were touring for Ages of Winter and they absolutely killed it. The whole night was stellar. The Sword opened, then it was Priestess, and Early Man headlined. A killer bill all the way around. The coolest thing was two years later when I went to go back to the 506 to see them again and they remembered who I was and hung out with me. Total class acts!!!
@@mikebunzey3146 The music is heavy because he isn't growling or screaming - when a song or a band tries to be too heavy it becomes cheap and weak. You need to have peaks and valleys, if you are always going heavy you become soft by comparison because you are flatlining.
JD plays an OR 100 but actually if you look closely you’ll see that that is the headliners back line and our boys in The Sword are plugged into Laney AOR 100s (maybe 50s?) and 4x12s. They recorded the first two records with those AORs. They’re like Marshall JCM 800’s with more gain and way more bass. Fucking badass amps. relatively cheap too.
i'm goin to the same tour in Philly (hopefully) These guys are straight up awesome. I saw them with Valient Thorr in a Church Basement last December. Best 10 bucks I ever spent.
I just seen the Sword Live and the drummer is right up on stage now!!!! I seen them in Asheville, NC on Jan 2nd on My B-day, and the drummer was put in a line on stage with the rest of the band......And it was amazing!!!!!!!
Man, this reminds me of my high school jam bands. We just had fun and made the music we wanted to make. I was the drummer and played on guitar every now and then sounded just like this good times.
Awesome video!! Thanks crashwaveblake for the upload; theres a lot of crappy Sword videos on here and on it, a lot of comment says the vocals are shitty. This one captures the band beautifully.. Cheers!
Thats that real gangsta shit! I was at this show and man these guys slay the weak. The Local 506, The Sword, hell I'll even throw in The Cats Cradle are awesome! If you haven't landed Warp Riders, preferably on vinyl, do yourself a favor and do it!
Probably my favorite band to watch live Saw them open for Clutch at Ziggys in Winston Salem when I’d never heard of them INSTANT fan ! I’m even on board with these last three albums, they’re certainly a departure but it’s good music nonetheless.
Oh most definitely. I could not wait for down to come off the stage. But this band is awesome! I'm glad they opened for Metallica or else I would've never heard them. Woo Metallica!
this sounds amazing live and just like the cd version. thats a sign of a damn good band when they play there songs live the same or better than the cd version
Such a fucking shame that "MUSICIANS" like this band are not recognized, or even, mentioned in todays music scene. It is not really surprising though, seeing as those that have no talent get more recognition than the ones that do in the music industry now.
The Sword sounds like they win the battle of the bands every year.
And their songs sound they’re going into battle
Fuckin ay!
Every time!
😄

#TheSwordWillNeverDie
We need more of this band for music sake, right now 2024!
Yeah. 1st time I heard them. Bout to be my new favorite band
I just got here too.. damn it Internet. these dudes are great
The Sword is exactly what heavy metal needed.
still needs
I miss this version of The Sword.
So true. Saw them with Priestess and Early. Man on a small club tour then opening for Metallica. It was all about losing that drummer and being recorded to cleanly after the first 2 albums
Yep Wingo is the man.
For sure man. The shorter Cronise' hair got, the crappier their newer music became.
Same dude... same. Absolutely suck now :/ I mean Warp Riders was dope bu still a big change in sound, then it was straight downhill into radio rock
@@YungStinkyWinky Such a shame that happens to so many bands.
I keep coming back to this video, this song is too good 🗡️
The whole first album is a classic.
This is when Trivet the original drummer was still in the band, I went to college with him after he left the band. Cool dude.
He's a kickass drummer! I mean anyone who watched this video already knows that but it's really cool you know him personally
Jocko willink brought me here..! Great song..!
Me to
Never thought of using this as an alarm clock. Just bought it lol
They don't play this live anymore which is a shame. But we got to hang with them on their last tour and they played it for me and a couple mates at soundcheck! Greatest dudes I've ever met.
Hamish Stewart That's rad man, any idea why they don't play it live anymore?
Yeah dude JD is awesome!!
It's cool they played it for you. I think it's their best song, they should bring it back
Definitely my favorite song of theirs.
They don't play it anymore because they played it to death for the last 13 years. They were tired of playing.
Singer rocking that Budgie shirt. Mad props. Always got to pay respect to where heavy started.
There's a ton of Budgie in YT too. They deserve more attention.
Budgie 😅😅😂???? They suck ,,, a plain white Tshirt has more originality
Wow, it seems recorded in 70's, awesome song
Very similar to black sabbath great song!
Retro doom
This band reminds me old Black Sabbath, but a little heavier. They are so awesome I want to see them live.
dude... their riffs are so tight.
Trivet Wingo is such a badass. I feel like The Sword would have evolved a completely different way had he stuck around. To be completely honest, even though Trivet wasnt' involved, Apocryphon was the last The Sword album I truly enjoyed and obsessed over.
You ain't lying. His playing on Warp riders is painfully perfect.
If you told these guys at the time of this video that they would tour the world with Metallica, they all prob would have laughed. Amazing how far these four guys have come
Live with Trey Wingo.....Trey Wingo was a freaking amazing Drummer!!!!!!!!!!!
at least once in my life i want to write a riff like these
How did it go?
I've seen The Sword 3 times live, these guys fucking jam!!

Jeremy Wright lucky bastard
The Ghost of the Flying Dutchman, I was definitely lucky to see this. Cheers 🍻
That scream fit RIGHT in. Helluva job.
Sounds like you might have been consuming adult beverages lol!
@@waypointman they were serving $1.00 Miller Highlife 🤷🏻♂️lol
seen them live several times, always great. miss their original drummer :(
Why did the original drummer leave? I can tell the drumming difference after warp riders for sure
if I recall correctly he got sick of touring, said he was going to go back to school or something. it's a shame, he had a great style.
I saw this band open for metallica. They ROCK!!!
one of the best heavy metal bands of today!!!!
great to hear a newer band that doesnt suck. the sword kicks ass!
I love that band - they have amazing flow.. have all their records
These guys plays the kind of music i wish i had made hehe. Must be awesome standing on a stage playing that.
I love this band like a fat kid loves cake
Johnny Dangerously I'm a fat kid and I hate cake
I'm a cake and fat kid I hate
@@yeahmes hilarious
Sencillamente BRUTALES ..... incombustible, adrenalina en su pura esencia !!
HOW HEAVY THOSE RIFFS!!!!
Now if the singer would growl and scream we would have something beyond brutal..

Wow I always imagined that The Sword used orange amps(this is the first live video I've seen of the sword) and I was right. cool song.

Wingo is such a power house drummer, just absolutely nails it down.
One of my favorite songs. Period.

I stumbled across this bar a few years ago when I was down for work. I’ve been wanting to back since.
