I think her self titled album is to explore all of the genres of music she likes. She has a lot of other albums that are much deeper lyrically. This was about a different sound
You should listen to her older albums, if you're looking for the singer-songwriter style, crazy vocals, intricate lyrics etc but this is just a new fun vibe for her to showcase her choreo I think. And i loved it. ♡

Some have said that Oceans is like a love song to God
Not surprising with Tori’s background and if that’s the case, it would fit better with your expectations of what a self entitled album should be like
Tori’s faith is a huge part of her
I actually interpret “shine on” to be a similar type of song as well
Also to add at the end of same girl, she’s saying “the girl you made” in reference to God.
Super interesting info, deffo makes listening to the album a different experience when you have this in mind. I'm afraid I'm not religious, so it's not where my mind immediately goes to when listening to music, but I can appreciate it retrospectively - thanks for watching! 💕
@@kaleighpritchy I’m also not religious but have been a big fan of Tori for ages, and her gospel album Hiding Place has some incredible vocals on it. You should definitely check it out!!

Same girl is also a call back to one of her old songs called “unbreakable smile” from her first album with the same name, especially the second verse where she says “still the same sold out shows without getting naked, so sexy feeling good in my skin” and in “unbreakable smile” she says “maybe they’ll let me sing songs about real things or baby who knows, maybe I could sell out shows without taking off my clothes, god made me sexy, I don’t care if only I know” which I think is soooo cool.
Oceans is about her faith. Also high water is when she had that health scare she had last year that sent her to the ICU.
I feel like if you have not followed Tori you wouldn't understand this album which is not really a dig, it's just a reality with most self-titled albums especially for lesser known artist like her.

Totally! As I said in the video I'm not super familiar with her music, but I really enjoyed going through this body of work and recording my first initial thoughts. I've had time to go through the tracks more since and I'm really enjoying it 😊 thanks for your feedback and for watching 💕

Chaewon sings the whole 2nd verse and 2nd chorus plus the korean phone call bit…yeah their voices sounds pretty similar in falsetto register😅
Tori is more than likely a secret rapper, sis has flow, Unbreakable Smile is basically her rapping. I would advise to travel through her entire discography, and you will not be disappointed. You betta put some respect on Bridget Mindler's name, she is so slept on!

reference that's what the Missing You song was about her friend's husband passed away and she wrote the song kind of like her friend missing her husband and tori is married since 2019 to a former basketball player

With That thing you do. It’s sampling Tom’s Diner. The whole Album is made to sound like Y2k and 90’s era. There are So many Easter Eggs from other Albums. She is Married, JOHN BELLION HELPED WITH THE WHOLE ALBUM. HE sings some with her❤. Yes, she took inspiration from several different artists. You should watch some of her interviews about it 🥰. Y2k and 90’s inspired is CORRECT 👍
