    To me, all the 2A restrictions aside, it was about GLOCK refusing to make their .45 auto pistols with a grip that fit the human hand so they neutered the .45 auto to get the smaller grip. The .45 GAP is dead now because die hard GLOCK owners can now get their hands around the new SF and gen. 4 .45 auto frames.

      But with a 21 made for 45GAP Glock could make the grip even smaller with the same capacity. This was Glocks failure after the ban.

    I could see people wanting the extra muzzle energy of the 9mm to guarantee best hollow point expansion vs the 45GAP/ACP. This is why I stopped carrying short barrel 45’s & have moved to 40s&w & 10mm

  • @michaelmikeymichaels
    @michaelmikeymichaels 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Learned something again. I can see the 10 rounds of a 45 caliber versus 10 of 9mm at that time. Personally I like the cartridge and my G38 is accurate. Makes me look like a way better shot than I am! The issue for me is finding ammo. When I do find it, it's relatively expensive and I don't reload. Hope it sticks around all the same. Good way to make a point (based on 10 round mags) with the 380, 9mm and GAP comparison. Great video Matt and appreciate going into a bit more of the history and what for of the cartridge.

    I live in Comifornia and this is the reason why I went with the Glock 30SF. 10 .45ACP is always better than 10 9MM. Honestly the reason I would want a 45 GAP is the reloader in me and I’m almost positive it will be a collector item.

    If the cartridge took off it’s a great idea a 45 bullet in 9mm frame . Also could have even smaller 1911 compacts even easier to Conceal . Problem is it didn’t take off and ammo cost and ammo availability is an issue . Plus the devout 45 acp following with less cost it was a hard sell

      @@wyominggunproject I wish it kept on just like 357 sig . I don’t like these options dying off . And I never understand the hate and disrespect. Seems like 9mm guys in this day and age assume everything else sucks because they watch gel tests . I got them all and I generally roll with 155 gr 40 with 550 pounds of energy . This grain and velocity is superior to 9mm +p+ in every category. Yet people mock 40 , I don’t get it . Bigger , faster , and heavier and better at barriers like auto glass . I love 9 too but prefer 40 and 45 +p 200gr.

    The .45 GAP from Glock was aimed at the Law Enforcement market. My agency was getting new Glock 38 pistols with Trijicon sights. It was geared to fit the smaller hands of officers who couldn’t handle the G21 model. It was very effective, accurate and reliable. Sadly it was at a time when new ammunition technology was emerging with the 9mm having similar performance to .45 ACP and .40 S&W. The escaped prisoner that was shot at over 50 yards away from a NY State Police Sergeant was proof it was capable at longer ranges.

    Ernest Durham a Speer ammo engineer/ rocket scientist developed the GAP. Metro Denver PD used Glock 21 and Glock 37. When I spoke with them in 2007 they had fired over a million rounds of GAP and were happy. The GAP allowed officers to gain a proper grip with its standard size frame over the Glock 21 which used the Glock 20 10mm frame. The 10mm length required a larger frame which actually longer than a 45 ACP requires. The ACP was to long for the standard frame but fit the existing oversized frame of the 10mm. Many wanted 45 performance in 9mm size grip. Where the 40 SW tried with some success to fill that desire, the GAP gave us the winning combination. It is the cartridge of the 21 century. Federal 230 gr HST was and is available. Speer, Winchester, Remington all loaded the GAP at the same price point as 45 ACP. Safariland made holsters to properly fit the GAP. Springfield Armory chambered their XD model in GAP. Five large State Police agencies and many smaller agencies used GAP.
    The Glock 37, 38, 39 use the same thickness of slide as the Glock 21 45 ACP and no one's complaining about that.
    If you are equipping a law enforcement agency in the early 2000's with officers ranging in size from 5 foot & 100lbs to 6foot 5 & 280lbs the GAP is ideal. Officers who mostly patrol alone have 31 rounds of 45 power on their person.
    No one is asking you to abandon your 1911 45 ACP. The 45 GAP improves and updates the 45 auto pistol embrace the advantages.

    • @Gieszkanne
      @Gieszkanne 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I still see potential. A 1911 could get a smaller grip from front to back in 45GAP for people with small hands. All kind of double stack 45ACP pistols could get smaller grips including the G21 if redesigned for 45GAP.

    I honestly didn’t know why 45 GAP came about but very interesting, I came into a Glock 37 by noticing one at Sportsmans Guide used for $256.00 so I bought one, used to get a box of ammo from TargetsportsUSA for $11.95 but not anymore, now around 30 bucks a box. This my oddball caliber so I got a fair amount just for the heck of it. It’s like a 40 recoil wise to me, anyway I like it, gonna get a plate and put a green dot on it and shoot an IDPA match or two with it. They are still for sale on Gunbroker and ammo still sells out so not dead yet.
    I remember the ban but I didn’t start getting into AR’s, competition shooting until about 12 years ago, probably good thing or would have gotten more pissed than I did, anyway sorry for such a long comment, the GAP is just interesting to me, well done video, subscribed to you also. All the best!

    I got one gun and it's a Glock 39 and it works great. Second smallest 45 ever made and it is easy to conceal if you conceal carry. I put 300 rounds thru it with no fails. Bought 200 rounds of gold dot and 300 rounds of hard ball. As far as having only 6 rounds that works fine in a scary situation. Nobody sticks around after they see you just reaching for your smoker. As far as actually shooting your gun, you better have a good reason to shoot it more than once maybe twice.

    Yeah I didn't quite understand that ban because back in the year 2000 I got my first AK and I was living in New York of all places, and I was able to get my FFL to order an Egyptian Maadi Misr, I can't remember if it was a model 10 or 90 but it was one of the two, and not only did it come with both a 30-round and 10-round magazine, but I was also able to order extra Eastern Block 30rd steel magazines from a company called "Clearview Investments", and at that time they were selling sets of four of them(4 30rd mags) along with a mag pouch for only $14.99 plus shipping and I ordered two sets of them (8mags) for under $30. And my AK had a standard buttstock and pistol grip but it definitely did not have a bayonet lug or threaded barrel, but it had those other standard features.
    I did see other Postban rifles like AKs and ARs with thumbhole stocks and regular rifle stocks, and some of them were even made with magazine housing that was designed to only accept proprietary single stack magazines, butt the Egyptian AK I bought in 2000 and the Romanian sar-1 AK I bought in 2002 we're within those Postban years and they were even advertised as Postban firearms so I still don't even understand what the ban was restricting when I was still able to buy those and those magazines, and in the state of New York of all places like I said 🤔

    Without going into the gory details, the .45 GAP was adopted by several agencies in my home state as well as a few Sheriffs Offices. Three dead Troopers and two dead Sheriff's Deputies later those same agencies could not unload their .45 GAP chambered Glocks fast enough with both state and county agencies reverting to the .40S&W.

  • @Gieszkanne
    @Gieszkanne 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I think the 45GAP still makes sense. After the ban Glock should have took the G21 make the grip smaller from front to back so it would hold 13 rounds of 45GAP but with a smaller grip than the 45ACP G21. This translates for all modern double stack 45 ACP pistols. Also I think that many thought that 45GAP is weaker than 45 ACP because its shorter. I even thought this myself for a long time. But actually it has the power of 45ACP +p.

    Anyone that knows case capacity would understand why .45 in any semi auto pistol is pointless. A 155 grain .40sw load will get you 600 ft/lb out of a 4” barrel. 10MM gets you from there to 800 ft/lb. Big bore revolvers cover anything more powerful.
