THESE SONG IS PURE GOLDEN OLDIE I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A KID SEEING MY BROTHERS GOING TO THE DANCE AT ST FRANCIS ON THE SOUTHSIDE OF SAN ANTONIO IN THE 60S
Brings back precious memories of when I used to go to school in San Marcos tx and on weekends I would go to clubs in San Antonio tx to go dancing in the 1960s
My mother wouldn't let me go to the "Patio en la Luz". She said there was too many pachucos! Not to worry, I would tell her we were going to a dance at Saint Frances and go instead to the Patio because I just loved the Royal Jesters and all those cute pachucos. LOL By the way, the Royal Jesters did play at St. Francis on Friday nights so I got to enjoy them. They could play any song and it always sounded like the original.
I was only 5 yrs old and I used to fall asleep with this song cause my sisters (6) in all played it for me, after several years later in my teenage year I got hooked to the Royal Jesters. I read their story. Rest in Peace Mr. Lawson 😇, left a legacy with us.
Man i was just a kid when this song came out but i still remember this great song i remember my older brothers going to the dance at St Francis in the southside of san antonio texas GREAT GREAT SONG
I can honestly say even I heard this song on the radio in 62. I was only 5, and in the Chicago area, but it was played there. I'm sure my oldest brother heard it in San Antonio, he did his basic training at Fort Sam in 1966. Of course now I actually Live in San Antonio. Been here 19 years now and have found out over those years this has been a very 'musical' and celebrity oriented city! :)
Sorry to hear about Oscar passing away. Rest in peace my brother an thank you for your music. I really enjoyed it. God bless you an my sincere condolence to the Lawson family.
Amazing to find this. I bought Pittsburgh's Greatest hits back in 1966, this tune was on there. It was a double album. Don't know where it is today. Thanks for the great memories.
Here in S.A. tx in the late 60s we used to go to a place called patio andaluz n oh boy it was the greatest all our friends fr different schools would b there.
I remember the patio on commerce, i use to be one of the go-go dancers for the royal jesters, with my friend mary-lou, boy if time could only change, our white boots remember those boots ? Great music to dance too, i do sure miss those times.
i ve heard this songs but not by the jesters Imoved out of San Anto around 64 or 65 by that time sunny and the sunliners were going strong, joe bravo, and little joe y la familia rudy and the reno bops were on fire but so was james brown. man its never to late I can still listen to the jesters its never to late.
Tk you (Vonwitzy), to this day I love the Royal Jesters, their songs are a touch to the heart. My 4 brothers are gone now but I still have my 6 sisters. Memories never fade, neither does Love.
I used to converse with Henry,Louie and Oscar. One time I went all the way to Austin to have louie sign my "We Go Together Album" I had all three of them sign it. I was offered $800.00 for it some twenty years ago and I asked him if he was crazy. You see it is about the music and the times these guys gave to us. Not any amount of money that someone can offer. I have albums and 45's of these guys and other local groups. When I die they go to my kids and grandchildren. U cant buy these memories.
This reminds me of the sock hops at St. Ann's gym...all of us guys from Holy Cross would hook up with the chicks from Providence...those were the days!
Went to a New Years Eve dance last night and I had the pleasure of listening to Louie Escalante sing this song live. He was a guest performer along with Jimmy Edward. I had never seen the Royal Jesters live so it was a treat watching Louie singing it live. He's family was there and they video taped it. Maybe they'll post it on YuTube.
First heard this when I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston ...San Antonio Texas...Dimas Garcia on lead? Around this time The Commands also came out with No Time For You
One of my favorite ballads. Not positive, but I think it's from 1962.The song was big in Pittsburgh, and is still played on the few oldies shows left in that area.
@mezskr4 The dance was held at Pueblo Dance Hall in San Antonio. It is located on a street behind Ingram Mall. It's a very nice place. It was basically an older crowd. On Christmas day they had Ruben Ramos. Louie and Jimmy Edward were backed up by Henry Lee and the Tribute band. Some of the musicians were guys that played with Sunny, Latin Breed and so forth. They have dances on some Fridays.
@@RoboLobster3000what a sad thing to say. Sampling is a great way to keep songs like this alive through time. Having been brought here by another song is great as well.
The best group of all the local bands. The Royal Jesters. You had Henry and the Kasuels, Little Jr.Jesse and the Teardrops, The Sunglows, Sunny and the Sunliners, Joe Bravo.
If you're lucky enough to have someone who loves you Then be glad that you've got someone who loves you 'Cause the lips that were warm can grow cool Listen to the wisdom of a fool When you take her poor heart and you do something to it And you think to yourself, oh, why did I do it You may find that the world can be cruel Listen to the wisdom of a fool Now I had a love just the same as you And I was a fool not to see But you still have time to say you love her I'm afraid it's too late for me So go back to the arms that you know will be waiting Hold her close in your arms and be glad that she's waiting You'll be happy, believe me, if you'll Only listen to the wisdom of a fool Now I had a love just the same as you And I was a fool not to see But you still have time to say you love her I'm afraid it's too late for me So go back to the arms that you know will be waiting Hold her close in your arms and be glad that she's waiting You'll be happy, believe me, if you'll Only listen to the wisdom of a fool Listen to the wisdom of a fool
The battle was between Sunny and the Jesters, Who was best? The bigger the crowd the more girls. If one of them had the Commands, that was the dance to go to.
I've heard many many versions of this song , and although this is not the very best it has an easy listening sounbd with not bad harmony. Gets a 6 in my book with 10 being the best.

Like your story
If you're lucky enough to have someone who loves you
Then be glad that you've got someone who loves you
'Cause the lips that were warm can grow cool
Listen to the wisdom of a fool
When you take her poor heart and you do something to it
And you think to yourself, oh, why did I do it
You may find that the world can be cruel
Listen to the wisdom of a fool
Now I had a love just the same as you
And I was a fool not to see
But you still have time to say you love her
I'm afraid it's too late for me
So go back to the arms that you know will be waiting
Hold her close in your arms and be glad that she's waiting
You'll be happy, believe me, if you'll
Only listen to the wisdom of a fool
Now I had a love just the same as you
And I was a fool not to see
But you still have time to say you love her
I'm afraid it's too late for me
So go back to the arms that you know will be waiting
