Hearing about how easy it was for people to buy cars is pretty shocking to me. My credit has always ranged in the 700's and I have never been late in payments but dealers have always treated me like I was trying to rip them off. NO DEBT. people need to walk away from taking on debt for new cars, homes etc.. what happens when people start refusing to buy over priceed, depreciating assets. Lets ask Japan in 1990s... Japan said "hell no, and started offering homes for free outside the city". That's how bad it got.

Rule #1: Never let the dealer arrange financing for you. They get kickbacks from banks that want dealers to steer good risk customers to them so they can burn the borrower with a higher interest rate. Dealers will almost never arrange financing in the favor of the customer. And don't expect a better deal if you return as a repeat customer because the salesperson will most likely be gone. Even if they are still there it's all about making their sales target for the month.

There is no evidence of widespread delinquencies in the auto industry. Its like 3% quarter 2 2023. Repos on title loans really shouldn't count because the interest pays the cars value several times a year. Basically they rented it for 200-300% yield.

I pay cash for all of my cars, and not 10 year old cars, and certainly not some Dodge crap. Once someone finances, they set themselves up to finance their entire life. Save up, buy less of a car and work your way up. A 20 year old kid with a job at a burger joint financing a M340i is stupid.

@@mikeherber8358 when people add history to your credit profile.
Example, if somebody has a Credit Card from American Express that they have paid on time for 8 years. They can add you to the credit card as an authorized users. Just by adding you to the account the 8 years of on time credit card payments and available credit balance will be reporting to your credit report with all 3 bereau's even though you dont have access to the credit card. People charge like $2000-$3000 for these strong accounts.
Another example, sometimes you can pay a small car dealership to report to the credit bureaus that you bought a car from them and made payments for 5 years on a car even if they never sold you a car. They report false information that you made 60 Car payments on time,
A combination of these credit card ( AU Authorized Users) tradelines and Auto ( installment loan) tradelines can easily boost somebody's credit from 0 to 780 in like 1 week. But they are expensive Expect to spend anywhere from $1000-$10,000 for some reliable tradelines

Credit scores aren't the end all.
I took a friend to Hyundai looking for a lease on a Tuscon. Older man - came with a blank check he was gonna make out for $10,000.
The finance manager, who looked like a shyster tried to tell him he needed a cosigner and his score wasn't high enough.
I told him to get his $10,000 check and walk.
SURE ENOUGH, the shyster came back and accepted the deal knowing if that check walked out, it wasn't coming back.
These dealers can make a call and get clearance for these leases even if they don't make much off the deal but they'll try to squeeze you.
I'm fortunate that I know financing very well and my score is 850. I can literally make demands. They can't screw me.
Still waiting on my Cadillac Lyriq Sport 3 AWD. I think GM is on some bullshit.

Although common sense, wondered what it would look like on the authorized user scenario if the cardholder proved lousy with credit. Thought at least one purchase must be made on the AU's card for it to be counted on the AU's credit report, unless they removed that requirement (back to how things were before 2007)

Nope. No charge needs to be made. When my daughter was 17 or 18, I put her on like 10 of my credit cards (because I didn't want to cosign on impending student loans). When the cards arrived, I showed them to her and said, "this is the last time you'll ever see these," and I locked them in the gun safe. 3 years later, and her score is in the 790s. She has 2 cards of her own (which she knows I'll go ballistic if she doesn't pay them in full each month).

    • @davidglad
      @davidglad 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@petereinert7581 I get that and totally respect it. I initially wrote a longer comment remarking my dad had me as an authorized user on a card I'd think he has long since closed. (RIP when AMEX would grandfather new cards to that earliest AMEX card's open date.. which applied too if you were an AU on somebody else's card!) I similarly helped my younger brother initially build his stellar credit by making him an AU on a card now 15 years old, as my parents didn't trust him to be responsible with one. I lucked out there, since then it's been over a decade since he had access to the card. (The Amazon I use infrequently to the point it's usually only after Chase sends me a letter saying buy something or it's closure time.) And he's happy it still shows on his report, although any address change I do also shows on his report.

The wildest one was 147% LTV on an Infiniti QX60 back in 2017 for my birthday lol second wildest was 143% on a 2018 Sonata turbo loaded to the gills. My wife signed on that one with her mom. We threw the car away, mother in law washed her hands from it and they never bothered her. That repo is 4 years old and she still bought a condo and new car last year.
