Any electronic kit will do, but you also need to have a working GH drum brain. All you need aside from that is a MIDI-MIDI cable to connect the E-kit to the drum brain. Before you can actually play GH, you have to set the values of your E-kit to the correct MIDI values of the GH drums: you can find these anywhere on the internet. Hope that helps!

I just didn't like having the screen AND the cut-out highway in the picture as it didn't look good imo. As for the cut at 2:46; I FCed past the fill at 2:43 during a different run, but missed the solo fill afterwards. I kept the recording of that run so I didn't have to waste my camera's battery on subsequent runs trying to FC the first fill again. When I did eventually hit the first fill again, I turned on my camera and recorded the rest of that run. Easier said, they're just separate runs.

the GH kit has a midi input, any drumkit that has a midi output can be connected and configured to work in GH

Yup, that's pretty much it. All you need is a MIDI cable to connect the drum controller to the E-kit.
