My first Hodaka teardown was in 1971 on my Bonanza. I like to split them cases with the flywheel side up. Usually I start the split by spreading two cylinder studs a little and then I start working the case off. Ball receiver and kick rollers I grease on assembly

Did the kick roller retainer cause you not to be able to kickstart the bike?
I was able to kick over the bike before I fixed it, but it didn't start cause I had other issues. It kicked over and starts just fine now.
How did you re-assemble the counter shaft and balls?
very carefully. lol
