I'm brand new to real cameras and photography. I've built and used cyanotype box cameras before and I work in film/animation, but just could never afford a real camera of any kind ever. A friend of mine recently told me how a family member of hers her parents are the estate owners of after his passing was a photographer and her parents have his collection of camera stashed at their house unused for almost 15y now. She said she'd see which they are next time she visits and just pick one. Can't argue with that kind of generosity and started googling each of the cameras she listed and shocked how many bloggers and youtubers who do camera and lens reviews don't use pictures to compare different default settings or compare 2 similar cameras or lenses side by side. I've watched hours worth of videos trying to gauge what each option is like today (so many videos and blogs I've lost count) and you're the first one to actually show side by side comparisons. Thank you for that and I hope you make more videos in the future, these are so helpful.

Nikon 35/2 af-d is my second prime lens. I love its color ,sharpness and focusing distance. It used to be my favourite lens before I changed to Nikon Z6. I liked your review especially the pace and voice. Keep working!
Fantastic review. I have almost purchased that lens a couple of times but I had to resist is I still have a Soligor 35mm f2 that needs some TLC but otherwise seems to be a great piece of glass as well. Maybe one day! Good to see you're still doing reviews!
Thank you! I''ve always wanted to try the Soligor 35 f2 and compare it to some other lenses made in that time. Happy to keep doing these but sometimes life gets in the way, you know.
1. The modern version obviously does NOT have the same optical format--the front glass is half the diameter of the old lens. 2. I have owned two of these, and I think the 1967 version was better than the 1987 multi-coated version 3. The extreme corners are very, very soft.
Another on that has been in my inventory for many years in search of the holy grail in 35 mm F-mount lenses. I aggree it's sharp in the center even wide open and when in rush I took landscape-pictures with it at f2 which are pretty much usable if you accept the vignetting. But another strange behaviour is showing besides the expected vignetting: barrell-distortion which vanishes when stopping down to f4. I have never again seen such a strange behaviour. 😂
Great video. I have the Nikkor 35mm f1.4 AI (the 70's version) its a great lens but wide open? Its ghostly. Really doesnt get "good" until f2. Seems like besides the wild bokek of the f1.4 there really isnt much point. I only bought it because I was so surprised that a 35mm f1.4 vintage lens even existed.
Thank you for sharing! That has been the experience of many who pick up a vintage 35 f/1.4. They were definitely pushing the limits of the glass in the 1970’s. And the pioneering of those engineers paved the way for the glass of today. At least stopping it down for your lens makes it “good”. Do you like using it?
@@studiotrejo3047 I use it all the time. It has explosive bokeh. Paid $280 CAD from my copy so whats that like $200 USD. So it was a good find for what it is. I have not decided which vintage 35 I like best, the Canon 35mm f2 Silver Concave or the Nik. They are just so good.
@@Hoanghai-cb1dx That is correct. Both AIS and AFD do not autofocus on Z cameras. The only way that works is if you use a third party adapter like the Techart or Megadap adapters. I have made a video on the Megadap. Thank you for watching!

So happy to see you come back! Love your reviews, keep up great work!

I have the previous Ai version. Good lens, but as you show, watch out for that little flare. In direct light it shows up EVERY time.
It sure does! I appreciate the previous Ai version because of its longer focus throw. Great lenses but watch out for the flare. Thanks for watching!
how much does it cost?
@@zhongyao-sc1lj the latest and greatest prices can be found on B&H, Adorama or EBay.

If you use with Z mount Cameras, It will not be AF, you must use MF (35mm F/2D)
