I remember when this aired on TV back around 1976 or 1977 as a program entitled, "They Said it with Music". Those dances were from the 1910's, not the 1920's. The Maxixe was danced to, "Dengozo" and "Too Much Mustard" was used for the Toddle, Fox Trot, and Bunny Hug.
I love this video it's WONDERFUL most of the dances I haven't seen but have heard about some,I thought the steps for the bunny hug, turkey trot etc had been lost. I love rag music. These were real dances not like Dancing with the stars. I will watch this over and over and try out my dance steps. What is 'They said it with music'? A TV show or musical, I must get a copy
The Castle Walk is from the '10s, not the '20s. The clothing does accurately reflect this. Same of the Tango. Most things Ragtime predate the '20s, actually.
+HowDareThey1970 The show did not claim the dances were from the 20's. True that many of the dances originated before the 1920's but, as with many dances today, people still did them in the 20's. From the ones shown, people still waltz, tango, and fox trot, for example. The quickstep is sometimes used in DWTS. Picky. Picky. Picky.
The show didn't specify, but the uploading channel did, and in the comments they mentioned being surprised that the Charleston (which really is from the '20s) got left out. Plus the phrase "dance crazes from the 1920s" implies that was when they *first* got big. It's like saying the macarena is "from the 2000s" bc people still do it occasionally, even though it peaked in the mid-90s. It's not an egregious error or anything, but worth a mention.
(though fwiw I have heard that one or two of these, like the Turkey Trot, *were* big in the early '20s, bc they came out close enough to WWI to not be played out or "old-fashioned" by the time it was over.)
THEY LEFT THE CHARLESTON OUT BECAUSE THIS IS THE DANCES OF THE 1910s AND THE CHARLESTON WAS A DANCE OF THE 1920s CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT FROM THE CLOTHING YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! #shookith
Dancing should be mandatory in schools, would do a world of good!

Exactly what my daughter said yesterday when we watched the clip. She kept waiting for the Charleston to appear but it was not featured!

That is a great question. Shouldn't schools have dance classes?
Is there a DVD of the entire show available anywhere?

@@imatifoso2782 What does DWTS stand for?
What are the names of the songs?
What’s the tune used for the Castle Walk?
Great video! I'm really surprised that they left out the Charleston.

Also how popular music is getting more of a higher profile shouldn't there be more dances with new names?
Ahh, to court a woman in those days.
To much mustard.
