“You don’t have to go back to him,” Batman said quietly, after fending off the Joker’s thugs. “You can choose a different path.” At first, Harley laughed, her usual hysterical response to everything.
But deep down, she knew there was some truth in Batman’s words. Batman wasn’t like the Joker. Despite his power, Batman wasn’t looking to destroy those around him; he was trying to save them.
Over time, Harley found herself drawn to Batman in ways she never imagined. It wasn’t easy. She was full of inner turmoil: Who was she without the Joker? Could someone like Batman ever care for someone as damaged and twisted as her?
On the other hand, Batman was dealing with his own conflict. He had always seen things in black and white: good versus evil. But with Harley, things were no longer that simple.
