Happy Pi Day, or Half Tau Day...to mark the day, I've made my biggest spiral yet...and using a formula with Pi, I estimated the total dominos in this spiral to be 10178.75 dominos. I counted the dominos and the estimate was close. 10,059 dominos were actually used.
Extras and full fall down in real time can be seen here:

This music in this video is by Joseph Stern:

video length is3:14 and the time you start to build was 3:14
@ShadowKid121 I see it now. they must rotate between a few more videos. Thanks for letting me know if was there.
Haha! I found the two secret references to pi! I looked on the clock and it said that you started at 3:14, and the video lasts 3 minutes and 14 seconds! But all things aside, happy late pi day! I can't wait for next year's pi day on 3/14/15 (3.1415)!
I've been subscribed for a couple of years now and think your videos are great, but one of the most amazing things is the way you edit, changing speeds and in this one the clock was genius. I never really thought before about how long your setups take. I was just imagining you did something like this in an afternoon. Now I have an even greater appreciation of the commitment involved.
2 secrets!
1: before the intro the video was 3:14 in length
2: according to the clock you started at exactly 14 minutes past 3
2:38 turn up volume. Thank me later.
Anybody else see that the time in the video is 3:14?
one second misses
3:13......
It reminds me of Pi!!!
Neel Modi for me
Me
I remember watching this video when it came out. Sometimes I remember this song and come back to listen
Back again
This video used to be 3:14 long, but after adding branding at the start, it's now 3:17....*sigh*
The intro is gone now, but now it's 3:13. ;_;
dominoboy08 weird, the player shows 3:14 initially, and then changes to 3:13...*sigh*
There appears to be a glitch on every single video where a second gets subtracted from the original displayed time once the video starts playing.
How are they going out tonight what
still 3:14 for me
I was sent your Mother's Day Flippy cat in a news letter. I watched almost all the rest. What I don't understand is why so many people press dislike. These are very creative and although impermanent, they give lots of pleasure. it is very much like the Buddhist sand mandalas. Beautiful then destroyed. Anyway, thank-you for the beauty of it all.
Reference 1: the video is 3:14, so is π
Reference 2: you said circle and the dominos went in a circle and there's a circle mentioned in π
The radius of a circle is X • Pi.
+swany72002 the video is 3:17
+Jad was here The video length is 3:14
such a beautifull video
Woah, that's good. I can't even put 7 dominos in a straight line. -_-
***** To my failure.
same
but it takes me 8 instead
actually 4-8
@ShadowKid121 cool, what section is it under? For 'spotlight' videos, I see 4 other Pi related videos.
Tomorrow is the TRUE Pi Day... For the 2nd time in history (not including B.C.) the date will be the closest it will ever be to Pi. 3/14/15
And I took a picture of my watch at 9:26:54
Life is crazy lol
Mem, Lord of Chaos Nope, the closest you'd get already passed a long time ago, March 14th 1592 is closer.
Kudos to you, FlippyCat, for taking the time and focus and energy to assemble this... and to show us. It's amazing, really.
Now I'm hungry for some Pie... and some Algebra, too.
R.I.P. Headphone users. (i am one of them. Some how i managed to survive with minimal ear damage.
The patience and perserverance. So much patience. And BTW, you somehow manage to make sure the colors are always in the pattern (yellow, white, yellow, white, etc.). ALWAYS!
The true Pi day is tomorrow!! :D
Pi = 1.141592658
Pi Day Starting: 9:26:58 AM
Pi Day Ending: 9:26:58 PM
Pi acually equals 3.1415926535......
so on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53.5
Which is TODAY!
Dude, that is a great thing, I respect every single thing you do, you are something that the world should remember.
@Playfulpat that's just an estimate. the number pi is a number where the digits just keep going. when using it, people round if off and use 3.14 or 3.14195. when rounding and estimating the answer is not exact. but is't close. for an exact answer, you can't round (you have to let the digits keep going forever!). so using a decimal is not exact but it's exacly close. If pi were a whole number, the estimate would be to. and if it were repeating, the answer would repeat as well.
Congratulations! You made it in the TH-cam Homepage! I also like the way how the video length is 3:14. Clever!
I can't enjoy your works without Flippy :( I really miss that small buddie :( My condolences ... R.I.P Flippy ... :( :(
such a beautifull video! *__*
love the whole set up for Pi
Peace, patience, and persistence are awarded with great prizes. Perhaps the most practical are practical presentation to your progeny on the perils and pitfalls in eating too much domino pie!
The time on the clock started at 3:14, the video is 3:14 long. Amazing job. Bravo!
@PRETTYLIGHTS56 ahh that explains things. I think it's changed now though?
u know. i have a LOT of respect for you. to make this kind of art is just amaizing to me. keep it up :) and have a good day
@3dtvcom thanks for leaving a comment!
you worked on this for over half a day straight...? incredible
how can you make everything so strait and perfect? Not only are you talented with dominos your also an artist my friend!
I like this explaination. This formula for your specific domino (specifications), can be used as reference to compare another types of market-domino. Love it!
I think the setup was actually more fun to watch then the falldown :P
Watched this for a Pi assignment, and I must say, this brings back memories of me watching domino videos and tricks and trying to make some domino stuff myself
I watched this for my math class as well.🤣
The detail into alternating yellow and white dominoes is crazy! Nice job man and every minute paid off :D
You builded 12 hours non stop... Thats dedication!
I like your idea of using pi to count the dominos!
I absolutely can not understand how you have the patience to do that. I swear if even one domino fell down on my, I'd kick the whole thing and be done with it lol...
That was amazing, I don't have nearly that much patience to do something so tedious, only to destroy it in the end. Yeah, several hours to make something in a school subject that we all hated... something I wouldn't do...
Again, great job!
damn...i'll give salutations 2 u guys who put on such patience n determination on doing dis thing for days n still miss flippy........
I love math, and pi is one of the coolest numbers around. Awesome vid!
Happy pi day and happy birthday Albert.
I LOVE IT! 3 MINUTES AND 14 SECONDS...MY BIRTHDAY IS COMPLETE.
wow, over 12 hours to build that?!? I struggle to concentrate on and not get frustrated with the domino runs I make which can only take about half an hour to an hour as I have few dominoes in comparison to you.(when I don't video them, they don't go over, when I can/do video them, they go over before they are finished, hence I never post any videos) you are one amazing person, do you do this for a living or something? I can't see you'd have the time if you didn't do these runs for a living...
I couldn't imagine putting down dominos for 10+ hours. It looks pretty cool. :)
When you tipped over a domino by accident you seemed so calm and in control...
If I had been in that situation, I would've balls'd it up and kicked all of it everywhere.
This is amazing!. It would be really awesome if you had black topped Dominos, then when you had the view from the top we couldn't see anything until you started the spiral.
God love you, flippycat! You have the patience of Job! I would have given up the first time the dominos spilled. Thanks for all your time and effort. It was a good video.
Dude its amazing how you do this stuff. BTW, I miss Flippy... R.I.P Flippy
this was absolutely incredible. oh, and did anyone else notice that this video is exactly 3 minutes and 14 seconds?
@TheFurryTaco It's March 14, (3/14), it's a little day where math-loving people celebrate Pi, which is an irrational fraction produced when one divides a circles Circumference by it's Diameter. Pi's first three digits are 3.14, that's why March 14 is used.
Did you seriously make this 13hours straight through? Man.. You're one hell of a domino enthusiast..
Amazing patience all the way through. Great video!
This is way cool! Happy Pi Day!!
Absolutely ace :) Having the clock in the video was a nice touch, can see how long it takes to do these.
I see how the video is also 3:14 minutes. This was so cool!
Fantastic! Thanks for the effort, the imagination, and showing the mistakes too (the ones that started to fall down) as a humanizing touch!
Lol the video was 3:14 long! I love your videos keep up the good work!
you are SO patient.... not giving up for founding some domino dropped...
over 12 hours? man nice one flippy!
i feel tired watching all of flippy's videos
how does she feel making all of her masterpieces?
I love watching from 1:42 onwards... it's really relaxing.
"Finally! I haven't talked to my wife in 6 months, I have twins I've never met, and I forget what my job was, its been so long. I've made the world's biggest domino spiral, and I'm only one domino away from finishing."
Then, the cat comes in.
@bboy500113 Someone actually manufactures little clear plastic partitions that you set in between them about every 20 or so just to prevent that sort of occurrence. They are called safeties.
This video is so amazing. So much Pi!
THAT! was amazing. A human wonder. Happy Pi Day, all.
pi is not just a simple digit, its a measure of our Universe. Something outstanding
You are so awesome. We had a domino toppling workshop at school today (lame, I know) and it was so annoying. And our project was minuscule compared to yours. It kept falling!
I like the fact you included the times you accidentally knocked over dominos ;)
I like how you made my eyes go crazy with the lights and teaching me that it takes a long time to make domino disines
@n00bcraft 22/7 actually isn't the exact number of pi. 22/7 is about 3.1428, while pi is 3.1415. 22/7 is just the closest fraction we have
I'm not sure if it was a coincidence, but it's pretty cool that your video is 3 minutes and 14 seconds long
@flippycat I'm curious to know what kind of music you listen to... I always enjoy the video music, and I assume you must listen to something while you spend hours putting these together (:
Very cool! The accidents looked very frustrating! The music was nice too.
I think the changing colors at the end was a little unnecessary, though.
Who's looking forward to March 14, 2015?!?
i like that you timelapse the fall down :D
@doofco The first hidden reference to pi is not the video upload day. It is actually where the clock was when the video began.
Best Pie video ever :D
You deserve way more views
Pi is good, pi tastes fine, 3.14159. :)
Well done, as always. :D
I wonder how they were able to change the color on the dominoes like that!!! So awsome!!!:D
This is epic! Love it!
@3dtvcom, not to put a damper on that, but that's actually more than 3.14 minutes. 3 minutes and 14 seconds is 3.23333 minutes.
Woah! This is awesome!
love the clock in there! use it more often :)
I found both hidden 3.14 references!!!
1. The video itself - it's 3:14 min. long
2. He started building it at 3:14
Nice to see. Very meditative.
Hey! It stayed Pi even when you folded that platform! :D
lol my math teacher played this in class in honor of pi day. when i saw the clock and dominoes i was like IT'S FLIPPY CAT!! everyone thought i was crazy until the video was over and said it was by flippy cat. youtubers ftw lolz
you are like, the queen of dominoes
a police officer told me about this video....that is awesome. can it increase my vision if i watch it everyday?
Btw you spelled Dominoes wrong in your using pi calculations but this was a pretty awesome demonstration of determination bro. Nice!
@WillD150 clock starts at 3:14 , the video is 3:14 and the pi number is 3.14
you spent 13 hours on that... for that, you get a subscriber.
amazing.. i also like the music :)
@iLuvWatermelonss It is an international holiday which celebrates the Greek letter "pi". It is the ratio of any circle's diameter to its circumference, and is an irrational number that continues forever: 3.14159265...as the first three digits are 3.14, March 14th became pi day. PS This message has 314 characters.
I baked you a pie! Oh boy what flavor? PI FLAVOR!!
A pi within a pie :D Awesome.
@Samanth406 Not only did he do 3:14 minutes of video but he also started working on it at 3:14.
@PraetorPhil LOL, I love it!! I wonder if they planned that way or just by coincidence!!
This is beautiful
i worship u for ur awtastic patience. just watching u makes me tired =.= but anyways great job!! XD
