My 8 year old has been learning karate with Seiken Karate Wado Ryu since the age of 6. We'd both like to say a massive 'Thank You Neil' for the fantastic kata videos you upload. Your demonstrations have assisted him in understanding the finer control movements in each kata and we've found your videos to be among (if not) the best on TH-cam to learn kata. Thanks again 💪
Currently learning this for my brown belt at the end of the year, no doubt I'll continue to come back to this as I work towards my black. Many thanks for this perfect instructional video!
@Chillz_566 forgot about this comment 🤣 smashed it, and worked my way to my 1st Kyu a few weeks back. The next stop is my black belt, which will probably be in a years time.
Thank you so much for your videos, they have really helped my 11 year old daughter practice at home and yesterday she achieved her first brown belt! She is thrilled.
Yes, she has a brown belt, unfortunately no more progress thanks to covid!
Biggest regret I have is quitting this as a dumb drunk teenager!
Got too 2nd brown and gave up...
Think the organisation I learned under has gone nowadays.
But I'll happily start over again...
I loved the flowing nature of the kata , probably my favourite part of it all.
I loved the whole learning practices, bit by bit and then finally you can show your kata.. all those months of perfecting for those few moments on test day... it's beautiful... A serenade of the soul.
It's never too late to restart as Robert Cooter's comment above demonstrates, and my own experience returning after (a mere!) 26 years!
Go for it. Good luck to you.
After commenting on your sandan kata from two years ago which i gained my green belt, i am now a purple belt training for brown.. This kata has helped me immensely.. keep up the good work.. Oss!....
Did you maybe watch the first version only ?, which is done slowly for student learning purposes, mentioned at the beggining of the clip. There are many wado versions of these kata however, our practise is is more alikened to the wado-kai version, thankyou very much for your views.
Sensei Pottinger: Thank you so much for your videos. I came back to Wado Ryu after a 50 year absence and have found these videos incredibily helpful as an adjunct to my formal instruction. By the way, I had the great honor of meeting Hironori Otsuka in the 1960s when he visited Bushido Dojo in Nashville, TN (founded by his student, Cecil Patterson). Your style seems to very much mirror the great master, in my view. Wa-No-Michi!
I returned to Wado Ryu myself a couple of months ago after a 26 year hiatus and I'm currently re-learning kushanku. Hats off to you for doing so after a 50 year break!
Meeting Hironori Otsuka must have been such a great experience.
Shihan Pottinger has quickly become my online go to reference for Kata 👊
Hi Neil, Thanks for up load these clips .. Very helpful Thank you .. easy to follow , love to watch .
Neil! Kushanku is my weakest kata so I did a TH-cam search for revision purposes. Your video was second on the list so it jumped out at me. Thank you! Just what I was after. Slow version for precision, normal speed for power and timing. Hope all's well with you and hope to catch up soon. Best wishes. Pete
I can not understood for what are the last moves for.
I thought this was called Kanku-Dai ?
Thanks for the kushanku .It is my also weakest kata thanks NEIL👌👌
Sooooooo helpful
Does anyone think that Kushanku is perhaps one of the most difficult katas to master? I certainly believe it is since it is so long (not to mention demanding to perform...), whilst Naihanchi is rather rigid in the fact that it has one stance, and one stance only despite being such as short kata...
Yeah, i also think kushanku is a hard kata to master, tho the position in naihanchi is also hard to master (if you ask me).
Hi Sensei Neil, would you please do a video of Shopai and Tekki shodan , Your clips are easy to follow and very helpful! . Thanks in advance
Thank you very mutch, this has helped me a lot, I have a grading comming up and I think I will do well thanks to you

Terrible kata execution!!!
The faster version is even worse.

Slightly different to the way we do it but just the reminder I needed before returning to karate lessons
Yeah, I'm going back to karate after 5 years, I really need this haha :)
