Concerts, gas shortages and most of my music collections were on 8track, lp's and cassettes! It was great and we thought we'd sing and dance for forever and a day@!
Same here, but maybe it wasn’t so simple. As a kid at that time, didn’t really understand things that were going on. Now as an adult, I can’t even fathom the shit that was going on (riots, war, etc). We lived protected lives, at least I did. So, yeah, the music makes me feel good because I remember it from a time when I felt safe (or didn’t know any better).
That Laurel Canyon sound...Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Mamas and The Papas, Beach Boys, and so many more....I would have loved to have had a house in Laurel Canyon during 1965 thru early 1970's...
When I was a little kid (1970's), my older Bro would take me out of the house when my parents were fighting, to keep me safe. We would just go around in his pretty and immaculate red car, driving, and the radio was always on. I would sing along to all the great songs; I knew 'em all. Even though my Bro would say I sang in the cracks. A very good memory from a sad childhood.
So sorry to hear about the sad troubled memories from your parents' dysfunction. Sounds as though you had a fabulous big brother though. Thank goodness for that.
Sorry you had less than happy childhood. My parents though they weren't perfect did not ever fight in front of me. I've don't ever remember seeing them fight. I'm proud of your brothers insight.
