Vaughan contradicts himself. He says (and I paraphrase) ''social media isn't the problem, the players' behaviour is the problem.'' followed by...: ''Yes we drank too much as a team, but we weren't under as much surveillance.'' I would argue that the reason for the increased surveillance is directly (partially) due to social media, and therefore, in my opinion, it IS a major part of the problem.
Riaz Uddin True. But it still seems a bit contradictory saying social media is blameless, but then later implying that it's significant. Personally I'm of the opinion that the media (both social and journalistic) have panicked the England management into making knee-jerk reactions, such as dropping Ben Duckett from the Lions. Bayliss himself described the reason (pouring beer over Anderson's head) as trivial. He's been punished for the preceding accumulation of 'offences' by other players. The management are playing into the media's hands, which I fear will begin to kill the already low morale in the set-up.
I think perhaps it came out wrong for I thought that he was trying to imply that the problem was NOT highlighted back then in the absence of social media as much as it has been today rather than it not being there. I think he is criticising both the teams for they are a party to the same offence but that the earlier team was excused perhaps due to the lack of spotlight (in relative terms) and the win they had secured.
I don't think that's a contradiction, he was saying there is more intense surveillance now so *the players must act accordingly, the blame lies with the players* not with the (improvement in) technology.
Stop blaming alcohol for disciplinary issues. The Pakistan team doesn't drink, not openly at any rate, and they have more than fair share of disciplinary issues. Alcohol can be enjoyed responsibly and most people who drink do.
Its a shame england wont ever invest as much in our cricket stadiums because cricket its not as big here as it is in australia.....All the top new stadiums are soccer ones because soccer over shadows cricket in the UK unfortunately
england are an undisciplined shambles and the results are going to show that and i dont see how they are going to avoid a 5-0 thrashing. Australia are a very tight organised confident unit with a trio of really fast tall young bowlers who are all over england like johnson was 4 years ago and with the pace and bounce at perth they are going to flatten england again ...... They are 2-0 already and buzzing with confidence and now they have another bouncy deck to rattle englands batters with 90mph short stuff.
Loving These No filter series. Keep em coming.
Abhishek Bhandari yea they are pretty sick aye

very true, vaughan seems to contradict himself a lot, and cannot really be taken to seriously.
he did not mean that as a positive, he labelled that team of 06/07 a "joke"

Michael Vaughan 'Doppelganger' was Melvyn Clive Ward (1950-2011) from Tittensor, Staffs.
