Thomas stated when he tried activating with his AX1 that it was mainly possible because the east Coast has a dense ham population. When I went to CO last summer I noticed how sparse the ham population was by comparison. So running QRP with an antenna compromised was nearly a death sentence to my activation attempts, not to mention the summer propagation paths are even more of a challenge. We get out to CO on May 1st, hope to get a day off to activate which will typically be Mondays & Tuesdays as that is when our camp hosts take off as well - this way we give better customer support to the campers on the weekends. Cheers, Davey --KU9L
Yeah, being on the east coast helps me a ton. In the summer when the bands go away, I do a lot of early morning 40m activations. With how dense the ham population is here, I can get my 10 in less than ten minutes.

As Dave Casler espouses: “The first rule of antennas is everything affects everything.” 😂
Amen to that LOL
LOL Sam..... I love it. Nice vid Evan.
Nice video! Your students must say you are the coolest teacher. I’m trying to work in a tripod setup for ham sticks.
LOL - if you don't look back at your car at least once after parking it, you're not driving the right car! ;-)
From one P car guy to another, I couldn't agree more!
What’s the tripod yore using here?
