Awh, thank you guys for touching up on the history of Thanksgiving. I'm a Native American, and yes, no one talks about the horrible things our Indigenous people went through. We do actually have a day aside for Native Americans. It's called Indigenous peoples Day. It's on October 14 actually, please spread the word! Thank you for this. You have no idea how much a lot of people are not educated on this part of history. I love this podcast, and you guys make my days even brighter and laugh so much! My husband and I haven’t talked to his mom and sisters for over 7 years. Truly does break, but the disrespect, mistreatment I couldn’t handle any more once I got pregnant & had my first daughter. For Christmas she got all her grandkids (even his sister who was 6 months pregnant) Gold bracelets with their names on it (my husband is Mexican y’all who get it get it) while she got my daughter (2 months at the time) socks. After that I told my husband I’m down cause I don’t ever wanna disrespect his mom but when it comes to my child. I. Don’t. PLAY! Mama bear 🐻
It’s hard cause my village is my husband.
I don’t take to my side of the family sadly D R U G S run their lives.
Life is hard. I’m just blessed I have the man I do!

😢this makes me sad, my husband and I have not talked to his family in over a year and I have a feeling that will not change any time soon. He is the only boy and I wish things were different. I tried for years to try to make them like me, but at the end I started to not care. I think they hate the fact that my husband always put me and my kids first.

As a Native American myself, it’s beautiful to hear that Yoatzi is aware of the REAL history of Thanksgiving. We don’t claim CC never have, never will. Indigenous people’s day is celebrated on October 9th in New Mexico. However, November was Native American heritage month 😇🥰

My family isn’t doing anything for thanksgiving so watching pretty not smart is the only thing I’m doing today!!
We used to celebrate Thanksgiving growing up, but now that my husband and I are adults, we realize how fucked up of a holiday it is (my husband is half native/mexican). Thanksgiving day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of Native people. It’s a day of mourning for Natives. For years we celebrated it as a day to be thankful, but we are thankful every day, so fuck thanksgiving lol.

We do just ham for thanksgiving as well cuz we aren’t huge on Turkey. It’s literally a giant chicken and ham is more of a treat, not something you can get all the time like chicken.

Hi indigenous Taino here, first thank you for talking about how thanksgiving has a dark past that affects our people 🤎, second I just wanted to correct the information, thanksgiving wasn’t with Columbus, they rarely teach this but Columbus didn’t touch North America he mostly enslaved and unalived the indigenous people of the Caribbean and central/South America. Thanksgiving is basically Europeans trying to be grateful for new land, land that they stole by spilling plenty blood, it was actually the pilgrims who “invited” a indigenous tribe for a dinner but ended up as a massacre. As years went by (since their descendants are the ones who run the system) thanksgiving became a holiday to be grateful/thankful for family friends etc, but it will always be a day of mourning for the indigenous community, also yes Columbus days is changing into “indigenous peoples day” which is already federally recognized, many of us wear orange 🧡
