I always find it funny when people like Amir blame their own lack of communication skills on others; especially people like Forrest and Jim who are literally professional speakers. I don’t like calling people trolls without good evidence but that last comment he made was almost good enough for me. It was the only thing I understood out of everything he said. Even if we assume a perfect simulation machine, and we plug in our educated guesses and produce a simulation which matches this universe in all ways in which we've observed, what does that mean? It means only that we have a model that matches what we've observed. It doesn't mean we have picked the right guesses, or that any prediction from our simulation necessarily applies to our universe. As long as predictions from the model are borne out by observation in our universe, it is a useful model. But that is all it can be.

Even if we assume a perfect simulation machine, and we plug in our educated guesses and produce a simulation which matches this universe in all ways in which we've observed, what does that mean?
It means only that we have a model that matches what we've observed.
It doesn't mean we have picked the right guesses, or that any prediction from our simulation necessarily applies to our universe.
As long as predictions from the model are borne out by observation in our universe, it is a useful model. But that is all it can be.
