I served in the Marines 2nd LAV Battalion. This is pretty spot on for paint, how you would mount gear outside and such. The big rack on the back of the turret may have a tool box in it, big tent, extra food and such that you have no room for inside. In an LAV you primarily do Reconnaissance. You would go out looking for where the enemy main movements or flanking units may be. You would move forward to as close to where you think the enemy is that they can not hear you. That giant muffler you see on the side actually does a pretty good job. These are about as loud as a big diesels F250 pick up if you are being light on the gas. The 6 person fire team in back would then get out and move the 1/2 to 1 mile closer to take a better look at enemy troop movement, size what ever. Then you return to your LAV and report back to command so they can plan attack or defense. If you discovered say a small radio unit of 10 soldiers or an anti aircraft gun replacement and you are sure no more than say 20 enemy troops are within 10 miles you may get orders to rush in with the LAV and take out the target with your cannon. Sometimes you may go out in a group of two to four LAVs for a wider search. If and that is rare that you would be ordered to take out a target it would be more likely to happen in a group like that so your sides and back are covered if other troops showed up. They do have versions of these with Tow anti tank missiles meant for rushing in and taking out a single tank. A version that has the same giant gatling cannon the A10 Thunderbolt Jet has plus missiles for shooting down jets. A version that just has radio equipment to act as a mobile command base. The driver sits in that front hatch. The guy on top is the LAV commander (usually a Sargent or Corparal. It was a Lieutenant or Captain if he would then also be the officer in charge of a group of four or more LAVs. Then there is a gunner. He can see out of that glass port under the commanders hatch through a periscope type thing but mostly he is looking at a screen that can see regular view, night view, infered and other options. He can move the turret around, cannon up and down and fire using a joystick like devise and several switches he has for screens and selecting single shot or several very fast. It fires a bullet about the size of a bicycle hand grip. There are a few versions meaning regular bullet look, tracer that makes a streak of light so you see where the shots land. It fires off a belt of amo like a machine gun so yo do not load it for every shot. You can point and go BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM!!! Then see if your target is still a target or a small dust pile. About every fifth shot will be one of those tracers if that is the amo belt you loaded up.
The minifigure is very impressive. They really went out of their way to make all of the equipment on him as realistic to the time period as possible. He's wearing the 3 striped DCU uniform as was being used by the US Army and Marine Corp in 2002, along with the M81 woodland Interceptor body armor, and the M7 holster to hold his M9 pistol.
yes that is the US MARINE COrp reconnaissance vehicle0.has a crew of 3 and a scout team of up to 6.the vehicle is also amphibious.it can still move with all tires blown out.top speed ive gotten my lav up to across the desert was b65 mph.yes its a awesome vehicle.
Armored simply refers to its resistance to ballistic attack. How thick the walls are and how it keeps out fire arms aka bullets/shells shot at it. An LAV can resist hand guns, rifles, average hand grenades. It is vulnerable to a shoulder fired missile, large land mines, tanks blowing into it and injuring or killing the crew. You would not want to face off with a Russian T45 Main Battle Tank with this. The cannon on the LAV25 will go right through a cender block wall, car, even steel plate up to about 3 inches thick. If you shot it at most of the surfaces of a T45 Battle Tank it would just bounce right off. It is much faster than most tanks. Most tanks other than the current US main battle tank also can not move the cannon fast enough to hit an LAV. If you ran into tank trouble you want to run away or circle around it and hit the tank in its weakest place in the rear to try and get the engine or fuel tank..
