    I have just heard back from CJ Sutton at Weber who confirmed my thought that the "B" in model 12F150B (at time 3:30) does indeed specify the British Kurt-Mueller cone.

      Good work! I was just tweaking my Marshall 18w 1974 and recalled that my first Weber is now doing magnificent service in its 25th year and 5th amp. Our Webers are "keepers". :)

    Ha! I was watching video again and noticed your beautiful dog (Harley?) trying to get in frame at 6:15. Such a cute dog. I love German Shepherds, too.

      Yes, he is always with me, Les. The only time he is removed from my workshop is when I am working in close proximity to life-threatening voltages and he tries the "head flick" of my hand onto his head for an enforced pat, otherwise he is wonderful company to have around.

    You must have some "Chic" lps im your collection. Nile Rogers is 2nd to Hendrix for funk. That weber sounds great, almost as good as an Eminence GA12 sc64. To save time with running in a new speaker I plug a cd player into the amp and use it as a juke-box for a month, if you play Mozart( string quartets) and Bethoven (greatest hits) the speaker will know what it's purpose is and it will be ready for work sooner.

    Ouch. That coil rub sounds depressingly familiar. Another great video, Chris and a great conclusion to this mini-series! The amp sounds amazing. Thank you for playing a bit of Midnight Oil!! What a legendary band.

      Thanks Les. Coil rub is a depressing sound because its followed by an emptying of your wallet. I am a big Midnight Oil fan and was lucky to see them several times through their long career.

      Thank you, Ed. I'm with you on the Tele. My first "good" guitar was a Tele in 1975. After 50 years, every gig sees a Tele and Les Paul go with me.

      I have to say, the Weber family, including Ted himself, are just so friendly. I was hoping to meet his son, TA, at NAMM next January, but sadly he won't be going. One of these days!

    It was all over too quick Chris! I would have enjoyed some more 'demoing' of your playing on this amp, but never mind. A Midnight Oil demo? Cool! Just about my favourite band mate!
    "Out where the river broke, the bloodwood & the desert oak. Holden wrecks & boiling diesel steamin 45 degrees." - Great song. Shame about the theme though. A small, fractured, divided population on one of the largest land masses on earth didn't think they were entitled to keep it all to themselves did they? Not that the land was colonised the right way, but that's another matter.
    I'm repairing/improving/upgrading my brand new 12" 'Legacy' brand 'Valve Edition 15' Amp, (15 W?) which is identical, & likely made in the same factory as an 'Epiphone Valve Standard' amp.
    It was a noisy, crackling, intermittent pos from the beginning. Turns out, the PT is underrated & was overheating. The cheap ass in-line heater fuseholder couldn't carry the current & was melting. The pcb carries the heater AC from one end to the other to the valve sockets. The signal also travelled from one end of the pcb to the other.
    So I've built a regulated 6.3V dc supply using a toroidal transformer & an LM350 reg chip to take the load off the PT. The heater supply will go directly to the 6V6's valve socket pins now, via chassis-mounted fuseholders.
    Signals are via single-end-earthed shielded cables now, & the old signal-carrying pcb tracks are now isolated & earthed. Some of the controls are now also connected via shielded cables directly to where they're processed.
    I've changed all the brown blob of 'poop' caps to Sprague 'orange drops', & uprated a filter cap or 2, according to multiple folks' advice on the forums (fora?).
    By the time all this is done, just about the only thing left to consider is the speaker. It's currently an unmarked unit with a pertty hefty 130mm (!) ceramic magnet. Do you think it would be worthwhile upgrading that as well, with, say, a Weber? I haven't removed it yet to see if it's ribbed or not, & it seemed to sound ok way back when the amp was in one piece!😅
    And yeah, you're right. I've been a technician long before I'll become a musician! - But I'm gunna try! Some may think I bought the amp just to mess around with its insides. - Well, not initially! - I did actually buy a beautiful looking (to me) Les Paul copy guitar to go with it in the tobacco kinda colouring, as a package. It looks like a big violin, such a stunning looking thing. I just hope I can learn to play it some day! Maybe a luthier could improve it - I dunno. Maybe one day.
    But at the moment I'm kind-of enjoying playing with the insides of my amp, rather than its outsides!
    Hey Chris do ya reckon I'd get into trouble if I ditched the 'Legacy' badge on the amp & made one that says - 'Neviphone'? What about a band name called - 'Midlife Oil'?

      I am very impressed with your amp work, Neville. You MUST reame it the NEVIPHONE!! Brilliant.
      I loved the lyrics of the Oils. SO much more substance tha "shake that ass, bitch", or "You said that you loved me...but you lied".

    There's all kinds of great modern speakers for a Deluxe Reverb. WGS/Jupiter makes my favorites. Weber's are pretty good though. They're all in the same ballpark of tone with varying levels of efficiency.

    • @theguitaramptech
      @theguitaramptech  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right, Matthew! We are spoiled for choice these days. Webers are my favourite and my customers love them, too. It's great that you have found your favourites. Yes, I like WGS, too. I have not heard Jupiters.

    • @matthewf1979
      @matthewf1979 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@theguitaramptech WGS makes the speakers for the people at Jupiter Condenser, the boutique capacitor people.
      The biggest deal with those is the paper voice coil former options. It makes a rather large difference in tone. I really like the M10C-P and M12C-P models. I have the 10' in my '66 Super Reverb and the 12" in my Deluxe clone that I built.
      They're not any more expensive than a Weber either.
