- The Danedyke Mystery
When the organist of a small village church is knocked down by an unseen intruder, the peaceful new life of an ex-police inspector takes on an unsettling turn. Septimus Treloar, formerly of Scotland yard and now Rector of St Mary, Danedyke, soon finds himself embroiled with a pair of nasty characters; the bogus major, with his parcel of poisoned meat for the rector's dog, and Armchair, with a taste for grievous bodily harm. The pair are after the famous Danedyke cup - a solid gold chalice said to have belonged to the Virgin Mary. But the cup has been lost for 40 years, and the secret of its whereabouts is well hidden. Where is the cup? And can Septimus, aided by his trusty dog and the village infant school teacher, unravel the mystery and get to the treasure before the villains?
Broadcast 10th June 1979
This is a nice little cozy for a lazy Monday NOT working. Thanks
Yippee! A 1979 Aston Martin Vantage V8 Volante 3:20 lovely
Thank you for sharing these episodes. I really enjoy the old TV productions 💖
Looking forward to the following episodes 👍👍👍
I love this! 😀John Rhys Davies (Armchair), one of my favorite actors, and Kenneth Colley (the Major), who's best known as Admiral Piett in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Cheers for this, Hope you have all 6 parts. Its 45 years since ive seen it and remember it being on on a Sunday afternoon. Think it was possibly aimed at teenage kids but could easily pass as an adult drama
Yes all six are being uploaded, rest assured!
@@ClassicBritishTelly Excellent Top man. Was an excellent theme tune as well and its nice to see many of the stars still with us 45 years on
Yes, I checked before watching the 1st episode! TY for yet another proper British series. On episode 4 of Harry Brent 🎉
Sunday teatime was a family drama slot in the 70s and 80s. Its great to remember kids oriented drama that was broad enough to watch with family
Super❤😊 Thank you
I can't say how absolutely delighted I was to find the whole series of one of my favourite shows, could only find first episode on completion dvd and was wondering if episodes lost Thank you so much
Great fun! A bygone era and all that stuff.😂
Excellent series.
Episode 2. Yes!!! Love it. Can't wait for the rest.
Love Ken Colley, he was superb in the Morse story "Second time around"
I’m set for the next couple of days
Thanks
Great series. ❤
Fond memories of Jimmy Young, both as a singer, and as the presenter with "What's the recipe today Jim?"
A little slow-moving but a rewarding cast. :)
Where is this supposed to be set and where was it actually filmed, do we know? The references to Liverpool and Southport suggest maybe somewhere Ormskirk way
I just googled it. “The series is set somewhere in the northwest of England near Southport …Scarisbrick or somewhere Ormskirk way. “ It was a 1979 children’s/young adults drama from Granada Television and yet, here am I a 75-year-old woman watching from Canada and enjoying it! 😂😅😂
@emf49 sounds like you googled my letterboxd review!
Charlie from Casuality eh? Lot more happy go lucky back then!
Armchair=Gimli I think
Yes, John Rhys Davies.
Tessa Peake -Jones 💖💖💖💖💖💖
can anyone identify Sir James' automobile at 3:20? thanks.
Aston Martin V8 Volante 😊
@@margies735 Thanks for the quick response
IS there no problem of dating here? The King James version of the Bible which they are quoting here, was not published until1611. Henry died in 1547. Abbot John must have been made abbot when he was surprisingly young.
Deeply impressed by your scholarship, but I guess even in the 70s there wasn't always that kind of attention to detail!
A pre-teen drama. Script quite weak & adolescent. Acting & dialogue repetitious and often irritating.
Ok but did you like it?
Stayed around to watch then 😁
