I’ve been playing for about a month, I’m a brand new WoW player but I have to say Classic is incredible! I got into one of the biggest guilds in Mankrik and have been having an incredible time! Maxxed out fishing, cooking, Skinning; and got my LW to 250 :D I am OP for a level 40 brand new player, I have skills now, I have income, I have a mount! I have a guild full of incredibly helpful and knowledgeable people to quest and do dungeons with :D

After dying on HC at level 38, and not wanting to level another HC toon, but still wanting to play Vanilla, I rolled a new toon on Horde, Whitemane NA, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how many people are playing. Tons of people out in the open world leveling, A robust AH, and seemingly stable economy, and to my surprise, TONS of WBuffs dropping, and people raiding. Dying on HC was the best thing to ever happened to me lol.
I checked it out & basically just felt like if you weren’t a warrior it wasn’t worth playing. With original classic there were enough people / raids that you could get into raids as another class. Not gonna lie though , I love my blessing of kings spam on 15+ warriors.
I've said this for years. That low-fantasy setting is what brought so many people to the game and kept them playing. I started playing WoW two weeks after it's release back in 2004 and my favourite expansion was WOTLK, but having gone back and played WOTLK Classic, I feel that Vanilla was the truest form of fantasy.
@@MrHowardMoon Yeah, WOTLK is really overrated imo. The atmosphere, story, Northrend, raids etc. are cool, but they appealed way too much to non-MMO fans imo. There's just not much to do at 80 except raid log, and even pvp seems to have pretty much died in the Classic version.
It’s amazing how I started playing in 2006 and I’ve quit many times but kept coming back to play. A game like Vanilla WoW will never be replicated ever again.
Same, vanilla was my get stuck at lvl 40 forever on my druid to help lowbies quest phase. Then tbc came out and all that went away but I had alot of fun. Unfortunately wow isnt the same and I just dont have time
The thing is, we were drawn in 2006 because there was an upsurge of people from wc3, same came in 2006, was 10, played on EU servers with such delightful exploration. Finished 2012, came back 2019 to test vanilla and after 1.5 months left. Nothing beats this first taste, when every aspect of the game was about exploration

Theres something nice about vanilla. I just recently leveled a rogue from 1 to 58 in an almost completely dead server and I had so much fun and chill to roam around the world. It sucks not being able to runs instsnces in a dead server, but i was amazed at how much fun I was having playing solo just because of the old world.
What's fascinating is that as someone who has played Retail for 2 decades straight and being more or less depressed for many expansions due to game's design direction, playing Classic again genuinely brings back pure joy as it did back in the day originally even though it was so long ago. I don't know what it is, but that sense of world, it's mystery, wonder, danger and vastness, community, class feel...and overall ''feel''...is just quite special. Now i'm not going to say that quests themselves are fun and the game certainly lacks certain QoL things...but mobs not dying in 1-2 hits and mana/energy/rage actually mattering...is a big part of the game's charm. *Classes actually feel like classes, even something as basic as hunter arrows. All of it is a part of the fantasy Retail lacks.*
I don't know if people would be open to it, but some graphical overhaul to make the game look like retail but retaining everything else would be great. And some more QoL updates.
it is still one of the best leveling experiences an MMO has to offer. Even if you aren't following the stories being told just feels fun and challenging.
It's the world. Yes there are people who don't like the slow questing and various quality of life issues, but as you said Vanilla knows what it is and you love it or hate it. For the people who don't mind those things or even enjoy them, Vanilla is impossible to beat because the entire world matters, is huge, and if you don't care to optimize, can be done in so many different ways
@@TenaciousTentacruel That's not actually true at all, Skyrim's map is 37km, whereas the entire Vanilla WoW map is 207km, including all the water between and around the two continents which makes up the vast majority of the map. The main section of Eastern Kingdoms (Wetlands and below) is about the size of Skyrim's map. In total in terms of actual playable landmass in Vanilla WoW there's about 3 Skyrim's worth of space. No single zone is even close to Skyrim's size. There are a lot of zones though, so plenty of variety, and Vanilla gives an illusion of scale despite relatively small zones by cleverly utilising design choices such as no mounts for 40 levels, and slower mounts before 60. Not to mention not having flying always makes the zones feel bigger.
I just started playing Classic ( and Wow ) for the first time. I'm really enjoying the overall experience. I'm using very minimal guides. Just enough to make sure I'm not missing out on dps. But not enough to ruin the sense of exploration. This game is awesome.

Recently got back into classic era and what I found I really enjoy now that I’m in the end game it that there is an end goal. You can put in the work and completely max out you character and you know that there won’t be another patch / expansion that will make all that work for null and void. The content isn’t very hard but only if you know what you’re doing, so it rewards you knowledge and experience in that sense. And for me personally it hits right in the nostalgia feels as now I get to be that geared to the teeth guy I always saw sitting around stormwind city as a kid and dreamed of one day being.
After watching this video, nostalgia hit me really hard. I started my WoW journey back in 2019 on Classic servers mostly because my friends were really hyped about it, so I gave it a shot without any expectations. We started as Alliance even I like Horde more. After few weeks RL came up and my friends had to quit so I stayed alone and had no clue what I have to do. I joined to the guild and here journey begins. I met few really nice people and we were playing together all the time. Even more, we were hanging out on the discord, watching movies, playing other games, even some people were eating together. In that time, I had the best gaming experience in my life. What makes Vanilla different is that everything is journey, either you run to the dungeon, questing or picking flowers, doesnt matter. People making parties, chatting and the game is slower which gives you more time to enjoy in small things and appreciate others and your time. Some people saying that there are no hard dungeons or raid mechanic, but I have to say that Molten Core is my all time favorite raid. There is something in simplicity. Before I finish I have to tell one anecdote. Our guild had many people in variation between 20 to 60 years old. There was a guy who is a grandpa and during the MC raids, exactly in 21:00 he would just go AFK so he can wish goodnight to his grandson and kiss him. Those "Ready Check" moments when we are waiting for him to come back was so memorable.
I agree, the AI voice over is great, i never read the quest before, i have on several occasions laughed out load because some of the writing is just that great.
This sudden wave of people flocking to non-hardcore vanilla realms are probably all those people who died in a hardcore challenge, after realizing that Vanilla is actually pretty damn fun if you don't rush / minmax it 😂
Basically. Like my cousin, they raved about how hc was amazing how they are having mroe fun than during classic launch. Only to die at level 20-30 and realize they dont want to start over, no AH, no wpvp, toxic dungeon runs was no fun. He came back to the cluster servers, he's having a great time. Hc is a gigantic waste of time.
I've been playing on era for six months or so now. Lvling a HC chat on the side but stopped since they announced HC servers. It's not a waste of time, just a different game
@@xMorbidArtx It's not that it's a waste of time. It's that vanilla is amazing itself, and some people want to play it casually and just enjoy the journey. Others want to have that new vanilla experience, which hardcore provides. There isn't always a need to say "this is better". It's fine to have multiple ways to play a game.
Hardcore is fun because for a lot of people its a focus on the leveling and taking slow unlike what you said. And its a constant "fresh" launch experience when you die always lots of people leveling.

Fresh! It's been 4 years and Blizzard has to understand that vanilla is the best MMO 20 years later. If they really wanted to monetize Vanilla WoW, they could create a separate sub, they won't do it because it would expose their incompetent game development, 15 years of failing while standing on a foundation the current team not only didn't create, they don't even understand it.
Been questing on a regular server and absolutely surprised at how many people i see about. This honestly feels more lively than when i was trying to play back at original launch
@@KsanUwU classic launch, not vanilla launch. i started playing a few days into it after queues died down and there was still plenty of people but it felt more like those people were just all bumrushing to 60. now it feels like a lot more people just genuinely questing
Welcome, great decision to start on Classic. The game is old and lack some modern quality-of-life features, but you should not be afraid of that, play the game at your own pace, and feel free to ask the community for help, I have so many memorable moments from WoW, made some good friends in the journey.
The one thing that is not being brought up too often is that Classic Vanilla servers were merged into clusters. This was the best decision Blizzard made. Thanks to it you see hundreds of people from different servers levelling in different zones again, Alliance and Horde at war once again in the open world, AH is one for the whole cluster, guilds extend to whole cluster, you can meet a guy from different server at level 10. Then find him in Tanaris two weeks later. It feels like one mega server than a cross realm which I love.
Wrath was when private severs started growing. and here we are. I admit lack of trading is the worst part of hardcore, closely followed by no grouping outside instances but i understand why the rules exist. It makes it interesting trying to be completely self-sufficient and actually using all your professions.
The economies are bloated on a lot of servers, so about 150 of us have restarted on Deviate Delight NA. Both Horde and Alliance, one guild each side. The server was so dead that it's a fresh start. We've been at it for like a week. so if anyone wants to come join us, we'd be happy for someone who wants a vanilla classic fresh experience - without the new server rush. No competing for mobs, no bots, no ruined economy, no server queues.
I tried hardcore for a while and got tired of standing in lines and not being able to group up for mobs like Vagash or Goldtooth who have a limited spawn. I did not mind at all having to start over if my characters died. I am now playing non-hardcore and having plenty of fun. My mage just hit level 33, and I have some lower-level alts as well. I really enjoy the world and exploring it through completing quests and having to travel. I'm still playing retail WoW and enjoying it, but there's something special about Classic that keeps me grinding.
Vanilla really is something special as a game. Not to mention Classic era is the only version left without cash shop, paid boosts and p2w gold straight from Blizzard. Our little slice of heaven in the sad modern MMO landscape, at least for now.
Acting like you guys don't purchase gold from third party websites..95% of the players do. You only take issue with it when it goes to blizzard instead of the Indo or Chinese/Russian person being a lazy fuck that refuses to get a job and contribute to their society in any meaningful way. The end result is always the same. I guess it's good though. I personally don't enjoy that player base anyways. The same people who raid log and complain about the game being boring. Go right ahead place yourselves in the Dr. Strange time loop and live your lives there for all I care, long as you're not affecting the rest of us I could care less. I play on Whitemane NA Horde, great Realm filled with friendly people and Guilds. Such a great time when I jump on and do some quests. Dungeon Groups are pretty active and everyone is patient from what I've experienced. Right now Org and TB are packed and plenty of people leveling in the World.
NGL i ganked a 23 tauren warr, he popped retail and just fell over, In my defense i gave him an out and sat down beside him waiting for him to kill his mob and heal. He proceeded to pull another mob and all gloves were off my paws, went cat form, f*ckin slaughtered him. If i see you out there, name is moonsinda, i have a taste for blood now. @@andreasargyrou9758 I couldn’t tell you off hand. My guild doesn’t endorse boosting and I’m not in the cities enough to see. I do know most just have an addon to ignore boosters though so if they are I doubt they’re staying busy.
Realized this a couple months ago! Didn’t copy my 2 old toons so had to lvl fresh and it was great. Hit 60 on my warrior on whitemane a couple weeks ago and have been in MC/ONY/BWL. Has been awesome being back 🤘🏼
Having never played classic I’m planning on joining HC. I like the idea of knowing everyone around me has struggled as much as I have and not bought their way to the top even if my new player status keeps me from ever raiding like it does in wrath.
Im coming back to vanilla, i played as an 11 year old back in tbc where i started, the vibes had peaked in wrath where i started raiding. I am so excited to be back, i didnt raid in vanilla at all, and this time im bringing my wife on the journey. Shes new but loves it, so glad to see vanilla thriving
Vanilla is still the best WoW, and the best MMORPG around. Wrath is fun, but if you have a couple of toons at 80, all you have to do is raid logging or PvP. The entire Vanilla world matters, not just a couple of raid portals.
Yeah, I honestly think Wrath has better class specs (almost no spec feels completely useless, unlike Vanilla), but Vanilla actually feels like a WORLD. Y'know, a WORLD of Warcraft.
Its why I think a little tweaking of Vanilla for the next Season would be incredible. Just a few quality of life and balance changes - nothing crazy - and the game would be vastly improved.
The armor in WoW has never looked realistic and it shouldn't, but it certainly looked more grounded than anything that came later. Unfortunately even at max level you sometimes look like a clown.

Classic Era is the only version I'm playing. The world, the quests, the music - it is just so special to me. Sadly Firemaw cluster is flooded with GSKP and boost offers in chat, but there are still less populated servers that don't really have that with a great community and a classic feeling to it.
I’ve loved playing classic servers over the last couple months. It plays like when it did before TBC was announced. No one is rushing to min/Max and a lot of players are new.
just returned after many years to classic vanilla and the starter maps are full - and people in them are helping each other randomly with kills, buffs, heals etc - it's a breath of fresh air. I actually feel wholesome and good about the community which I cannot say at all about retail.
Vanilla is still my favourite version of WoW and it's great to see so many other players seem to like it too It just has so much soul and personality, vanilla WoW is probably just my favourite game in general
for me the answer is simple, time. I don't have time to keep up with every single update. Updates don't give me something to do, my time is limited. And such, a game with no updates and a fixed endgame is actually appealing to me.
The return to non-hardcore WoW Classic is that scene from The Menu *spoilers* when Margot asks the Chef for a cheeseburger. No bullshit, just a simple and tasty cheeseburger. WoW Classic is that cheeseburger.
From the company that uses fan-made trailers as their official trailers, I think it wouldn't be too far-fetched to expect new content made by players as well. That's a good thing, the less Blizzard has to do with the game, the better it will be!
I'm playing vanilla again, playing as horde for the first time. My highest character is level 23, got a tauren druid, undead warrior and troll shaman. Levelling slowly, reading the quests, enjoying the world. There really is nothing like vanilla WoW.
People want Vanilla WoW fresh starts. The sense of hype from 100s of players in the same zone makes the game feel very alive and yourself too. You're part of it. Season of Mastery is definitely the way, but they need to happen is a REDUCTION OF ID TIME. Make raid ID's only 3 days long, so people can enjoy the one year. The alternative would be making each season 2 years long, but that comes with downsides too. Also adding more raids with equal level gear could be an option like WoW+ or keep adding classes, add a weekly buff to a certain spec system (!!!!) etc.
I think that something that would help keeping the game fresh as well as adding a mix and a rebalance of classes might be having these servers but in the "crusader" patch, pero alliance git shamans and draenei and horde got belfs and paladins, I think that would be awesome and might keep slightly fresh vanilla wow
I think adding other races but keeping everything else vanilla would be wonderful. I kinda want to play as a worgen since that was my favorite race as a kid when they came out, so being able to fully experience Classic as my favorite race would be wonderful

Classic is a chill game. It's fun to run around the world, do quests, kill mobs, find gear, and just.. play the game. For as much as people talk about it being the "harder" version of the game, honestly it just feels like it actually has meaning because it's not just all spoon fed to you albeit it's not "hard". The hardcore experience certainly is that, it gives you the adrenaline rushes of close moments which is incredibly fun especially in duo or trio. But I wouldn't say no to just chilling and playing the game leveling a char.
wtf is the point? so you play on fresh server, create a new character, spend so many hours leveling/gearing etc. just for all of your progress to be wiped and start over again? nobody wants that shit, literally waste of time. you have diablo with nonsense seasons for this type of gameplay
I gotta say its heartwarming seeing vanilla pop off like this, especially after the way the community seemingly welcomed with open arms cash shop boosts & now wow token/p2w gdkp. Good to see there's still people that love the game just for the sake of the game, not the credit card swiping. Gives me hope for the future of MMORPGs /salute vanillaenjoyers.
I would love Fresh but this time around with the changes like the Chronoboon, what would be cool is if they managed to scale raids and brings raids in line with 25 players making it FAR more manageable, wouldn't mind XP buffs even if for small periodic events such as weekends or the various seasonal events.
I believe your train of thought is problematic. The change from 40 man to 25 man raids was one of the big changes that reduced the community. Remember that every change has knock-on effects. Smaller raids -> smaller guilds -> less drama, less managing, but also less player interaction. One of vanillas greatest strength has always been the player interaction, for good and for bad. Getting help on a quest or getting ganked in world pvp are all player interactions. Any change that fiddles with player interaction should be carefully considered before implementation
@@Drianikaben correct. Also I never said that smaller raids reduce the number of people raiding. I said that smaller raids leads to smaller guilds. There will be more guilds, but each guild will be smaller.
I’ll never understand why people say they love Vanilla but then want things like XP boosts or smaller raids. The whole point in Vanilla is the leveling experience and the slow grind is exactly why it’s more rewarding and why there more people out in the world. If you want faster XP and 25 man raids go play another expansion - because clearly Vanilla isn’t for you.

However if you preferred version is TBC, which has Faster leveling and 25 man, while still maintaining a lot of the World and keeping many holder items relevant, then you are out of luck for an official server. My point being, I do see where this kind of thought is coming from, but it is still annoying when applied to Vanilla
The biggest difference between vanilla and HC is that the vanilla popularity seems to be driven by people wanting to play the game whereas theres a lot of people playing HC because of the streamer coverage and honestly i dont think that leads to longevity for that mode
What people don’t seem to realize is the difficulty of creating an expansion that will uphold the quality of the base game. Yes, Vanilla is one of a kind game and a masterpiece of an MMO, but to keep up the quality throughout 15 years worth of expansions just simply seems impossible, because a huge part of Vanilla’s appeal is the levelling experience and the open world, which is something you just don’t have in further expansions. It’s impressive as fuck that they managed to keep the game alive and flourishing (to a point) for so long, despite the number of stupid mistakes they’ve made and all the anti-consumer shit they’ve pulled of (likely due to Activision). It just goes to show how fucking good Vanilla was.
I think it's getting popular again because they've really messed up WOTLK with the whole WoW Token debacle and not combating botting / cheating. Unfortunate.
Its not about the token dude, it was cr*p with official payed Blizzard boosts and unbalanced factions in most servers in Europe, people already thought it was really boring, hence why they left for Era and hardcore.
I suggest everybody to play Turtle WoW. It's honestly everything I have ever wanted out of Vanilla+ and the server is filled to the brim with people. It's the first time the game has felt magical to me since playing actual Vanilla and TBC back in the day. After playing Turtle WoW, regular serves just feel lifeless to me.
catch up mechanics are cool and all, but the progression in vanilla feels genuine. And you know when you get to 60 it wont be ripped away by a new expansion.
I really enjoy playing Classic on Firemaw EU Ally. Community is soo big, no one belives this how big 🙈🙂 streamers community can enjoy toons of players on world. That's epic 😁
I started at the end of wrath. That experience was really what won me over though. I’ve come and gone over the years but the game has definitely lost a lot of the experience that it once had. Now it’s just boost or power level to max and jump into end game as fast as possible. I miss the feeling of having leveled zones and having to earn your right to survive from one zone to the next and actually soaking up the story lines as you go. As a rogue main, learning and leveling things like poisons and lock picking makes it really feel like you’ve put in work to get to where you are and adds to the immersive feel of your class. I haven’t played any version of classic yet but I will be soon. I want to love this game again.
I play Whitemane on NA whenever I'm burnt on Live. Each region has 50+ players. The experience is so calm and chill and the game is slower paced rather than the button smash it has become. I can't wait to PvP in classic.
It is crazy to me that people really think no new content is an issue. Has everyone forgotten how popular private classic realms were (with no new content btw) ?
I started a couple new toons on the Firemaw cluster EU (alliance). We actually have a couple guilds running Naxx every week, at least 3 Alliance guilds. (one of them being my guild- Core). It's actually popping off, it wasn't hard to find a group for dungeons (I can only speak about pre 25 so far though) Unfortunately the Boost meta and GDKP meta is still alive and well though.
I would like to see a hardcore challenge where instead od deleting when dying, you should just loose experience, with the possibility to loose levels for dying too much, and also a chance to drop some of your inventory items. The way tibia approaches it is hardcore enough, maybe that could be fun in wow.
@30 seconds is actually footage of Whitemane-PvP from NA servers. I do raids with Phase Seven and Pasta Sauce guilds shown in the video. Not that it really matters though… Anyways, as mentioned I play on the Whitemane-PvP NA cluster on Alliance and it’s great. Tons of Alliance guilds doing pug signup runs with 2sr or gdkp running all content up to Naxx, with about 3-4 guilds consistently clearing Naxx weekly-with horde seemingly doing the same. Plenty of people leveling out in the world, it’s a real amazing thing to see with respect to where we are at in the “classic” timeline.
im leveling a fresh priest on whitemane! i was in a group standing outside the BRS instance portal and a full horde 40 man BWL raid ran by us and killed us lol! no one was upset because it was so cool to see
Ive been playing on Whitemane for about 2-3 weeks. Alliance. Been have a looooot of fun! The ganking can be wild sometimes, but I signed up for a PVP server/cluster. The game feels good. Classic is so imperfect and rough on the edges, but so good at the same time.
People got bored of Wrath. We didnt realize how easy it was and how unsatisfying it was to hit 80. Add in wow tokens, bots, and XP buffs and the game is pretty much just a nostalgic phase u get over quickly. Classic Vanilla, however, is still satisfying to this day. The leveling experience and community is second to none. Add in HC and u have a whole new element of excellence! This is coming from someone who started during Wrath. I always thought Wrath was the best because thats where I started and because the xpans that followed were trending down hill.. But after experiencing the relaunch of Vanilla and even TBC (which is now my overall favorite xpan), its quite clear that Vanilla is the place to be. I never experienced a launch like that in my 14 years playing WoW. I will be leveling on HC servers and regular Vanilla servers.
Retail player here. Rested xp made my classic wow experience awesome. Never made it past like level 20 in classic bc I never had the gigs classic brain. I feel like this is the most schill thing ever to say but I think rested xp is making peoples classic experience a lot better and making it so people are playing. I’ve been leveling like 7 characters like a solo rpg on classic and I’m loving it.
After playing D4 out of nowhere I got an itch to play wow. I created a character at around 10pm and was very surprised how many people were there. Brill was packed. Not so many where you can't get stuff done, but not a barren wasteland either. A healthy population.
I've been playing on the NA era servers for a month or so now, i started a mage because i never played one in classic just for fun, i am now raiding on it with some very nice gear from mc and zg heading into bwl with my guild now. been good fun
Returned recently and started raiding with my hunter again it and also got an Ashbringer (Im a hunter yea I know). Also started leveling a rogue and a warrior + some profession just for the fun of it. Really enjoying the chill world and the game and community as a whole once again.
I've been doing hc and seen this video and well it summ it up, I miss old vanilla so I want to HC even though I hate the feeling of loosing all my precious progress. I'll give era a try I guess I was literally feared by the idea of "Am I the only one ?"
I play with a friend on Mograine EUW Server and its connected with Firemaw EUW. We lvl our chars at the moment but we have everyday encounters with other player who quest with us, or other players who wanna do a lot world pvp. All in all its just big fun to play this game especially with a friend and not winmax every stat your char has.
Blizzard should take a look at the emulation scene for EverQuest. There's a good 5,000 or 6,000 players total playing early versions of the game every night. And that title had a lot fewer players, and has aged a lot more poorly, than World of Warcraft.
I rerolled to try out the AI voiced quest addon, and wow I got addicted to questing. Im seeing the game through a brand new scope, learning so much about the lore from listening to the quests.
I’ve been playing for about a month, I’m a brand new WoW player but I have to say Classic is incredible! I got into one of the biggest guilds in Mankrik and have been having an incredible time! Maxxed out fishing, cooking, Skinning; and got my LW to 250 :D
I am OP for a level 40 brand new player, I have skills now, I have income, I have a mount! I have a guild full of incredibly helpful and knowledgeable people to quest and do dungeons with :D

After dying on HC at level 38, and not wanting to level another HC toon, but still wanting to play Vanilla, I rolled a new toon on Horde, Whitemane NA, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how many people are playing. Tons of people out in the open world leveling, A robust AH, and seemingly stable economy, and to my surprise, TONS of WBuffs dropping, and people raiding.
Dying on HC was the best thing to ever happened to me lol.

I checked it out & basically just felt like if you weren’t a warrior it wasn’t worth playing.
With original classic there were enough people / raids that you could get into raids as another class.

I've said this for years. That low-fantasy setting is what brought so many people to the game and kept them playing. I started playing WoW two weeks after it's release back in 2004 and my favourite expansion was WOTLK, but having gone back and played WOTLK Classic, I feel that Vanilla was the truest form of fantasy.
@@MrHowardMoon Yeah, WOTLK is really overrated imo. The atmosphere, story, Northrend, raids etc. are cool, but they appealed way too much to non-MMO fans imo. There's just not much to do at 80 except raid log, and even pvp seems to have pretty much died in the Classic version.

It’s amazing how I started playing in 2006 and I’ve quit many times but kept coming back to play. A game like Vanilla WoW will never be replicated ever again.

The thing is, we were drawn in 2006 because there was an upsurge of people from wc3, same came in 2006, was 10, played on EU servers with such delightful exploration. Finished 2012, came back 2019 to test vanilla and after 1.5 months left. Nothing beats this first taste, when every aspect of the game was about exploration

Theres something nice about vanilla. I just recently leveled a rogue from 1 to 58 in an almost completely dead server and I had so much fun and chill to roam around the world.
It sucks not being able to runs instsnces in a dead server, but i was amazed at how much fun I was having playing solo just because of the old world.
What's fascinating is that as someone who has played Retail for 2 decades straight and being more or less depressed for many expansions due to game's design direction, playing Classic again genuinely brings back pure joy as it did back in the day originally even though it was so long ago. I don't know what it is, but that sense of world, it's mystery, wonder, danger and vastness, community, class feel...and overall ''feel''...is just quite special. Now i'm not going to say that quests themselves are fun and the game certainly lacks certain QoL things...but mobs not dying in 1-2 hits and mana/energy/rage actually mattering...is a big part of the game's charm. *Classes actually feel like classes, even something as basic as hunter arrows. All of it is a part of the fantasy Retail lacks.*
I don't know if people would be open to it, but some graphical overhaul to make the game look like retail but retaining everything else would be great. And some more QoL updates.

Try the voice, GW2UI and questie addon, it brings so much to the table, it still classic but much more modern and immersive.

@@TenaciousTentacruel That's not actually true at all, Skyrim's map is 37km, whereas the entire Vanilla WoW map is 207km, including all the water between and around the two continents which makes up the vast majority of the map. The main section of Eastern Kingdoms (Wetlands and below) is about the size of Skyrim's map. In total in terms of actual playable landmass in Vanilla WoW there's about 3 Skyrim's worth of space. No single zone is even close to Skyrim's size.
There are a lot of zones though, so plenty of variety, and Vanilla gives an illusion of scale despite relatively small zones by cleverly utilising design choices such as no mounts for 40 levels, and slower mounts before 60. Not to mention not having flying always makes the zones feel bigger.
I just started playing Classic ( and Wow ) for the first time. I'm really enjoying the overall experience. I'm using very minimal guides. Just enough to make sure I'm not missing out on dps. But not enough to ruin the sense of exploration. This game is awesome.

Recently got back into classic era and what I found I really enjoy now that I’m in the end game it that there is an end goal. You can put in the work and completely max out you character and you know that there won’t be another patch / expansion that will make all that work for null and void. The content isn’t very hard but only if you know what you’re doing, so it rewards you knowledge and experience in that sense. And for me personally it hits right in the nostalgia feels as now I get to be that geared to the teeth guy I always saw sitting around stormwind city as a kid and dreamed of one day being.

After watching this video, nostalgia hit me really hard. I started my WoW journey back in 2019 on Classic servers mostly because my friends were really hyped about it, so I gave it a shot without any expectations. We started as Alliance even I like Horde more. After few weeks RL came up and my friends had to quit so I stayed alone and had no clue what I have to do. I joined to the guild and here journey begins. I met few really nice people and we were playing together all the time. Even more, we were hanging out on the discord, watching movies, playing other games, even some people were eating together. In that time, I had the best gaming experience in my life.
What makes Vanilla different is that everything is journey, either you run to the dungeon, questing or picking flowers, doesnt matter. People making parties, chatting and the game is slower which gives you more time to enjoy in small things and appreciate others and your time. Some people saying that there are no hard dungeons or raid mechanic, but I have to say that Molten Core is my all time favorite raid. There is something in simplicity.
Before I finish I have to tell one anecdote. Our guild had many people in variation between 20 to 60 years old. There was a guy who is a grandpa and during the MC raids, exactly in 21:00 he would just go AFK so he can wish goodnight to his grandson and kiss him. Those "Ready Check" moments when we are waiting for him to come back was so memorable.

Basically. Like my cousin, they raved about how hc was amazing how they are having mroe fun than during classic launch. Only to die at level 20-30 and realize they dont want to start over, no AH, no wpvp, toxic dungeon runs was no fun. He came back to the cluster servers, he's having a great time.

There isn't always a need to say "this is better". It's fine to have multiple ways to play a game.
Hardcore is fun because for a lot of people its a focus on the leveling and taking slow unlike what you said. And its a constant "fresh" launch experience when you die always lots of people leveling.

Fresh! It's been 4 years and Blizzard has to understand that vanilla is the best MMO 20 years later. If they really wanted to monetize Vanilla WoW, they could create a separate sub, they won't do it because it would expose their incompetent game development, 15 years of failing while standing on a foundation the current team not only didn't create, they don't even understand it.
Been questing on a regular server and absolutely surprised at how many people i see about. This honestly feels more lively than when i was trying to play back at original launch

Welcome, great decision to start on Classic. The game is old and lack some modern quality-of-life features, but you should not be afraid of that, play the game at your own pace, and feel free to ask the community for help, I have so many memorable moments from WoW, made some good friends in the journey.
The one thing that is not being brought up too often is that Classic Vanilla servers were merged into clusters. This was the best decision Blizzard made.
Thanks to it you see hundreds of people from different servers levelling in different zones again, Alliance and Horde at war once again in the open world, AH is one for the whole cluster, guilds extend to whole cluster, you can meet a guy from different server at level 10. Then find him in Tanaris two weeks later. It feels like one mega server than a cross realm which I love.

I admit lack of trading is the worst part of hardcore, closely followed by no grouping outside instances but i understand why the rules exist. It makes it interesting trying to be completely self-sufficient and actually using all your professions.
The economies are bloated on a lot of servers, so about 150 of us have restarted on Deviate Delight NA.
Both Horde and Alliance, one guild each side.
The server was so dead that it's a fresh start. We've been at it for like a week. so if anyone wants to come join us, we'd be happy for someone who wants a vanilla classic fresh experience - without the new server rush. No competing for mobs, no bots, no ruined economy, no server queues.
I tried hardcore for a while and got tired of standing in lines and not being able to group up for mobs like Vagash or Goldtooth who have a limited spawn. I did not mind at all having to start over if my characters died. I am now playing non-hardcore and having plenty of fun. My mage just hit level 33, and I have some lower-level alts as well. I really enjoy the world and exploring it through completing quests and having to travel. I'm still playing retail WoW and enjoying it, but there's something special about Classic that keeps me grinding.

Vanilla really is something special as a game. Not to mention Classic era is the only version left without cash shop, paid boosts and p2w gold straight from Blizzard. Our little slice of heaven in the sad modern MMO landscape, at least for now.

You only take issue with it when it goes to blizzard instead of the Indo or Chinese/Russian person being a lazy fuck that refuses to get a job and contribute to their society in any meaningful way. I play on Whitemane NA Horde, great Realm filled with friendly people and Guilds. Such a great time when I jump on and do some quests. Dungeon Groups are pretty active and everyone is patient from what I've experienced. Right now Org and TB are packed and plenty of people leveling in the World.
NGL i ganked a 23 tauren warr, he popped retail and just fell over, In my defense i gave him an out and sat down beside him waiting for him to kill his mob and heal. He proceeded to pull another mob and all gloves were off my paws, went cat form, f*ckin slaughtered him.

@@andreasargyrou9758 I couldn’t tell you off hand. My guild doesn’t endorse boosting and I’m not in the cities enough to see. I do know most just have an addon to ignore boosters though so if they are I doubt they’re staying busy.

Having never played classic I’m planning on joining HC. I like the idea of knowing everyone around me has struggled as much as I have and not bought their way to the top even if my new player status keeps me from ever raiding like it does in wrath.
Im coming back to vanilla, i played as an 11 year old back in tbc where i started, the vibes had peaked in wrath where i started raiding. I am so excited to be back, i didnt raid in vanilla at all, and this time im bringing my wife on the journey. Shes new but loves it, so glad to see vanilla thriving
Vanilla is still the best WoW, and the best MMORPG around.
Wrath is fun, but if you have a couple of toons at 80, all you have to do is raid logging or PvP. The entire Vanilla world matters, not just a couple of raid portals.
Yeah, I honestly think Wrath has better class specs (almost no spec feels completely useless, unlike Vanilla), but Vanilla actually feels like a WORLD. Y'know, a WORLD of Warcraft.

Its why I think a little tweaking of Vanilla for the next Season would be incredible. Just a few quality of life and balance changes - nothing crazy - and the game would be vastly improved.
The armor in WoW has never looked realistic and it shouldn't, but it certainly looked more grounded than anything that came later. Unfortunately even at max level you sometimes look like a clown.

Classic Era is the only version I'm playing. The world, the quests, the music - it is just so special to me. Sadly Firemaw cluster is flooded with GSKP and boost offers in chat, but there are still less populated servers that don't really have that with a great community and a classic feeling to it.
I’ve loved playing classic servers over the last couple months. It plays like when it did before TBC was announced. No one is rushing to min/Max and a lot of players are new.
just returned after many years to classic vanilla and the starter maps are full - and people in them are helping each other randomly with kills, buffs, heals etc - it's a breath of fresh air. I actually feel wholesome and good about the community which I cannot say at all about retail.
Vanilla is still my favourite version of WoW and it's great to see so many other players seem to like it too
It just has so much soul and personality, vanilla WoW is probably just my favourite game in general
for me the answer is simple, time. I don't have time to keep up with every single update. Updates don't give me something to do, my time is limited. And such, a game with no updates and a fixed endgame is actually appealing to me.
i watched the army swarm back, sat in barrens and gave out 7k gold worth of 12 and 10 slot bags. now the raid community is booming months later.

I've been playing classic era more than anything else recently. Whether it's a fresh, SOM2 or Classic+, I'm onboard for whatever isn't Cata Classic.

From the company that uses fan-made trailers as their official trailers, I think it wouldn't be too far-fetched to expect new content made by players as well. That's a good thing, the less Blizzard has to do with the game, the better it will be!
I'm playing vanilla again, playing as horde for the first time. My highest character is level 23, got a tauren druid, undead warrior and troll shaman. Levelling slowly, reading the quests, enjoying the world. There really is nothing like vanilla WoW.
People want Vanilla WoW fresh starts. The sense of hype from 100s of players in the same zone makes the game feel very alive and yourself too. You're part of it. Season of Mastery is definitely the way, but they need to happen is a REDUCTION OF ID TIME. Make raid ID's only 3 days long, so people can enjoy the one year. The alternative would be making each season 2 years long, but that comes with downsides too. Also adding more raids with equal level gear could be an option like WoW+ or keep adding classes, add a weekly buff to a certain spec system (!!!!) etc.
I think that something that would help keeping the game fresh as well as adding a mix and a rebalance of classes might be having these servers but in the "crusader" patch, pero alliance git shamans and draenei and horde got belfs and paladins, I think that would be awesome and might keep slightly fresh vanilla wow
I think adding other races but keeping everything else vanilla would be wonderful. I kinda want to play as a worgen since that was my favorite race as a kid when they came out, so being able to fully experience Classic as my favorite race would be wonderful
@@termiteconsumer7145 I agree with this, I would add worgen and high elves like turtle has for the alliance...and maybe goblins and ogres for horde? I don't play horde so I'm not sure what the hordies would want but it would make it even better than it already is.
Classic is a chill game. It's fun to run around the world, do quests, kill mobs, find gear, and just.. play the game. For as much as people talk about it being the "harder" version of the game, honestly it just feels like it actually has meaning because it's not just all spoon fed to you albeit it's not "hard".
The hardcore experience certainly is that, it gives you the adrenaline rushes of close moments which is incredibly fun especially in duo or trio. But I wouldn't say no to just chilling and playing the game leveling a char.

I would love Fresh but this time around with the changes like the Chronoboon, what would be cool is if they managed to scale raids and brings raids in line with 25 players making it FAR more manageable, wouldn't mind XP buffs even if for small periodic events such as weekends or the various seasonal events.
I believe your train of thought is problematic. The change from 40 man to 25 man raids was one of the big changes that reduced the community. Remember that every change has knock-on effects. Smaller raids -> smaller guilds -> less drama, less managing, but also less player interaction.
One of vanillas greatest strength has always been the player interaction, for good and for bad. Getting help on a quest or getting ganked in world pvp are all player interactions. Any change that fiddles with player interaction should be carefully considered before implementation

I’ll never understand why people say they love Vanilla but then want things like XP boosts or smaller raids. The whole point in Vanilla is the leveling experience and the slow grind is exactly why it’s more rewarding and why there more people out in the world.
If you want faster XP and 25 man raids go play another expansion - because clearly Vanilla isn’t for you.
@@jawshe1795 My thoughts exactly. However if you preferred version is TBC, which has Faster leveling and 25 man, while still maintaining a lot of the World and keeping many holder items relevant, then you are out of luck for an official server.
My point being, I do see where this kind of thought is coming from, but it is still annoying when applied to Vanilla

The biggest difference between vanilla and HC is that the vanilla popularity seems to be driven by people wanting to play the game whereas theres a lot of people playing HC because of the streamer coverage and honestly i dont think that leads to longevity for that mode

That being said, I’m not giving Blizzard a dime. Fuck ‘em.
What people don’t seem to realize is the difficulty of creating an expansion that will uphold the quality of the base game.
Yes, Vanilla is one of a kind game and a masterpiece of an MMO, but to keep up the quality throughout 15 years worth of expansions just simply seems impossible, because a huge part of Vanilla’s appeal is the levelling experience and the open world, which is something you just don’t have in further expansions.
It’s impressive as fuck that they managed to keep the game alive and flourishing (to a point) for so long, despite the number of stupid mistakes they’ve made and all the anti-consumer shit they’ve pulled of (likely due to Activision). It just goes to show how fucking good Vanilla was.
I think it's getting popular again because they've really messed up WOTLK with the whole WoW Token debacle and not combating botting / cheating. Unfortunate.

Its not about the token dude, it was cr*p with official payed Blizzard boosts and unbalanced factions in most servers in Europe, people already thought it was really boring, hence why they left for Era and hardcore.

I suggest everybody to play Turtle WoW. It's honestly everything I have ever wanted out of Vanilla+ and the server is filled to the brim with people. It's the first time the game has felt magical to me since playing actual Vanilla and TBC back in the day. After playing Turtle WoW, regular serves just feel lifeless to me.

catch up mechanics are cool and all, but the progression in vanilla feels genuine. And you know when you get to 60 it wont be ripped away by a new expansion.

I started at the end of wrath. That experience was really what won me over though. I’ve come and gone over the years but the game has definitely lost a lot of the experience that it once had. Now it’s just boost or power level to max and jump into end game as fast as possible. I miss the feeling of having leveled zones and having to earn your right to survive from one zone to the next and actually soaking up the story lines as you go. As a rogue main, learning and leveling things like poisons and lock picking makes it really feel like you’ve put in work to get to where you are and adds to the immersive feel of your class. I haven’t played any version of classic yet but I will be soon. I want to love this game again.
I’ll probably give official Hardcore a try but probably get bored after 3-4 deaths. But I what really want is a fresh Vanilla server to play on.
I play Whitemane on NA whenever I'm burnt on Live. Each region has 50+ players. The experience is so calm and chill and the game is slower paced rather than the button smash it has become. I can't wait to PvP in classic.

there is a simple way to deal with named quest mobs. On retail everyone is able to tag mobs, no grp needed - just use that sytem on named quest mobs.
I started playing wow classic and it’s my first time ever playing wow and it’s so fun I was surprised how active my server is
I started a couple new toons on the Firemaw cluster EU (alliance).
We actually have a couple guilds running Naxx every week, at least 3 Alliance guilds.
(one of them being my guild- Core).
It's actually popping off, it wasn't hard to find a group for dungeons (I can only speak about pre 25 so far though)
Unfortunately the Boost meta and GDKP meta is still alive and well though.
Also FULL 40 mans for every other raid, I couldn't even get a space for the AQ40 this week.
I would like to see a hardcore challenge where instead od deleting when dying, you should just loose experience, with the possibility to loose levels for dying too much, and also a chance to drop some of your inventory items. The way tibia approaches it is hardcore enough, maybe that could be fun in wow.
@30 seconds is actually footage of Whitemane-PvP from NA servers. I do raids with Phase Seven and Pasta Sauce guilds shown in the video. Not that it really matters though…
Anyways, as mentioned I play on the Whitemane-PvP NA cluster on Alliance and it’s great. Tons of Alliance guilds doing pug signup runs with 2sr or gdkp running all content up to Naxx, with about 3-4 guilds consistently clearing Naxx weekly-with horde seemingly doing the same. Plenty of people leveling out in the world, it’s a real amazing thing to see with respect to where we are at in the “classic” timeline.

Ive been playing on Whitemane for about 2-3 weeks. Alliance. Been have a looooot of fun! The ganking can be wild sometimes, but I signed up for a PVP server/cluster. The game feels good. Classic is so imperfect and rough on the edges, but so good at the same time.

People got bored of Wrath. We didnt realize how easy it was and how unsatisfying it was to hit 80. Add in wow tokens, bots, and XP buffs and the game is pretty much just a nostalgic phase u get over quickly. Classic Vanilla, however, is still satisfying to this day. The leveling experience and community is second to none. Add in HC and u have a whole new element of excellence! This is coming from someone who started during Wrath. I always thought Wrath was the best because thats where I started and because the xpans that followed were trending down hill.. But after experiencing the relaunch of Vanilla and even TBC (which is now my overall favorite xpan), its quite clear that Vanilla is the place to be. I never experienced a launch like that in my 14 years playing WoW. I will be leveling on HC servers and regular Vanilla servers.
Retail player here. Rested xp made my classic wow experience awesome. Never made it past like level 20 in classic bc I never had the gigs classic brain. I feel like this is the most schill thing ever to say but I think rested xp is making peoples classic experience a lot better and making it so people are playing. I’ve been leveling like 7 characters like a solo rpg on classic and I’m loving it.
After playing D4 out of nowhere I got an itch to play wow. I created a character at around 10pm and was very surprised how many people were there. Brill was packed. Not so many where you can't get stuff done, but not a barren wasteland either. A healthy population.
I've been playing on the NA era servers for a month or so now, i started a mage because i never played one in classic just for fun, i am now raiding on it with some very nice gear from mc and zg heading into bwl with my guild now. been good fun
Returned recently and started raiding with my hunter again it and also got an Ashbringer (Im a hunter yea I know). Also started leveling a rogue and a warrior + some profession just for the fun of it. Really enjoying the chill world and the game and community as a whole once again.
I've been doing hc and seen this video and well it summ it up, I miss old vanilla so I want to HC even though I hate the feeling of loosing all my precious progress. I'll give era a try I guess I was literally feared by the idea of "Am I the only one ?"

It's not massive but it's robust enough to form groups. It's better than having an overpopulated server to be honest.

I play with a friend on Mograine EUW Server and its connected with Firemaw EUW. We lvl our chars at the moment but we have everyday encounters with other player who quest with us, or other players who wanna do a lot world pvp. All in all its just big fun to play this game especially with a friend and not winmax every stat your char has.

Blizzard should take a look at the emulation scene for EverQuest. There's a good 5,000 or 6,000 players total playing early versions of the game every night. And that title had a lot fewer players, and has aged a lot more poorly, than World of Warcraft.
I rerolled to try out the AI voiced quest addon, and wow I got addicted to questing. Im seeing the game through a brand new scope, learning so much about the lore from listening to the quests.
