Hello everyone I wanted to write a sort of journal of my stay in the Philippines, so it may help other foreigners such as myself with extreme anxiety and stress with the system there.
I arrived on February 2nd of this year to live with my girlfriend in Manila. As a Canadian, I was legally able to be there without anything but a return ticket back to Calgary, Canada and obviously a passport for a duration of no more than 30 days.
During the last two weeks of February, before my legal 30 days expired my girlfriend and I decided to make the trip to the Bureau of Immigration Head Office. 3 hour bus ride from Novaliches , Quezon City area.
If your looking to go there as well, and as I highly recommend because of my positive experience, please remember to dress in pants and remove your hat. There is a dress code there and other foreigners were being turned away because if this so please be warned of this. No shorts especially!
I entered the immigration but my girlfriend was told to wait outside which she patiently did. The first step was going to a area to fill out some quick paperwork and then I was given a forum and instructions to which booth I needed to goto.
I had to make various trips to different booths and the final result was a ACR card and my three month extension receipt. Your stamped paperwork with your receipt is your extension so keep it safe you will need this for your next extension or leaving the country !!.
After this was done I was legally able to be there until June. Also please keep in mind that after you stay in the Philippines for more than six months you will need to also obtain an exit clearance so keep this in mind if you intent on staying there longer than six months.
I unfortunately needed to be back in Canada so I booked my flight for May 8 of this year. My entire stay was from Feb 2 to May 8 which is a few days more than four months total.
I still had an extra month paid for but as mentioned I needed to be back in Canada. I became very stressed because my plane tickets costed me 3300cad for a one way trip back to Canada ! So I didn't want any trips ups of missing my flight or being told I had insufficient paperwork. I also registered for the Etravel online as well. At the moment foreigners do not have to register for Etravel but I've heard conflicting information of immigration asking for it either way so I did it to be safe. It's easy and quick and I covered all my bases.
My flight out of Manila was for 12:05pm in the afternoon. We booked a grab for 5 am in Quezon City, Novaliches area.
I didn't get to the airport until roughly 815am. Keep in mind get to the airport early please! as the airport fills up with people very quickly.
I brought with me my Passport, my ACR card, Extension paper, Etravel information, flight ticket and my Canadian ID. I even brought with me papers with my girlfriend and my name on it to show where I was staying.
I only had to show my Air ticket, passport and extension paper... That's it ! The stress and anxiety was over !
My ultimate goal here is to write some information here for people to read so they're arnt a basketcase of stress like I was ... Remember to bring with you all your paperwork ! And if please remember if your there for more than six months you need a ECC. This can be done at the airport in Terminal 3 or an immigration office. I was fearful that I needed to goto terminal three and sit and wait if I didn't have sufficient paperwork and miss a flight or worse just pointless obsticles that I hear about time to time but everything went smooth.
Thanks for reading and all the best folks.!

    • @robertmitchell6080
      @robertmitchell6080 ปีที่แล้ว

That departure details is good to know.
I havent been here since 2015 and to get visa extensions id normally go to the hot crowded noisy Immigration office near Rizal Park but this time i found a new large cold quiet and not crowded office on the 5th level of Ayala Circuit Mall in Makati just 10 minutes from where i was staying.
There was no dress code, i entered in shorts and a hat and probably half in there ( about 20 wore shorts). My gf entered with me and filled out my paperwork which was only 1 sheet, i got a 59 day extension after requesting 6 months along with the ACR card for a total amount of 7588P.
Ive since extended it for 2 months there at a cost of 1800P.
To my surprise they dont require a passport size photo for each extension anymore and on both occasions i was in and out within 15 minutes.
Was planning on staying 9 months but as i cannot obtain cash from an ATM, pawnshop or Philippino bank, using a Mastercard debit card issued by an Australian Bank, im leaving after 5 months so i can avoid paying any exit tax.

Just as an FYI to Balikbayans who have renewed their passport while they were in the Philippines, my experience for many years including earlier this month is that there was NO NEED for me to transfer my BB stamp to my new passport. I brought my old passport with me just in case the immigration officer wanted to see the stamp but she said it was not necessary. Immigration may have an electronic record of your entry into the country when they scan your passport hence showing the old passport being not required. I would bring the old passport with you anyway just in case they ask. With that said, I should say a huge thanks for Jennifer and her work on this since 2020 or so. You've been great!

Rumours that the visa rules are set to change. The tourist visa situation may change so foreigners won't be able to keep extending up to 3 years without putting up a crazy bond or meeting extra requirements that could be tricky for many foreigners who are staying in the Philippines. Talk of the Philippines government pushing the digital nomad agenda despite the internet being too slow and unreliable compared to many other Asian countries. Any thoughts?

Please note that if you are a dual citizen you will carry better protections and access to consular help of your foreign country if you enter the Philippines only with your foreign passport.
For example, the US government can and will help you evacuate back to US in cases where something bad happens in the Philippines during your stay(e.g. pandemic, political riots, natural disasters).
This benefit may be severely hindered if you enter with the Philippine passport as you will be seen and treated as a local. More restrictions will also apply to you during your exit from the Philippines.
Hence, in forums and discussions among dual citizens, if one intends to stay briefly in the Philippines, the consensus is tonavoid entering with the Philippine passport and only use your foreign passport.
In most cases of dual citizens visiting Philippines for a short trip, we would consider Jennifer’s approach as a really bad advice. 😢

After 5 hours of waiting I finally got my ACR-I card. I have stayed in the Philippines for more than 6 months but less than 1 year and the BI officer that processes ECCs told us that I do not need to apply for an ECC-B because I haven't stayed more than 1 year. Although he did say that I will need to pay a fee at the airport. I have been debating on whether or not I should try and register on the E-Services website, specifically to take care of the Re-Entry permit. But from my understanding, I can get that at the BI in NAIA.

Can you please pass on a plea to those in charge of holding the interviews for a Filipina to get a visitors Visa to the UK (and elsewhere) to find a way for the Filipina to do the interview and biometrics without having to go to either Manila or Cebu.
They have to also pick their passport/visa up back at those offices in 5 to 10 working days afterwards.
This means from places like Southern Leyte two trips of 3 days each and the cost of flights and hotels extra... for her and her young daughter.
The ability to do this on their own islands would help them a lot and many Filipinas that are trying to visit abroad.

Hi. At the moment, there's no alternative to this. It's the individual embassy/ embassies which dictate the rules (if they require personal appearance for interview, biometrics etc). If the applicants come from another province/ island, then they have to bear the cost (travel, hotel, food, etc). It's part of the travel process. From what I know, the embassies of USA, Canada, Austria, Germany all require personal appearance. If the applicant/ sponsor doesn't have the cash for these expenses, then don't travel (or save up first).

Clearly you are a Philippine Immigration Agent/Officer. What if you are a Section 13(a) Visa holder and you were unable to renew your passport, which expired in 2019. What are your options?

    • @kitty_s23456
      @kitty_s23456 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi. I suggest to renew your passport since you can't travel on an expired one. If you're in PH and you need to travel to your country of citizenship, then you can go to your embassy and probably obtain a "travel document". It's a piece of paper that will allow you to travel 1 time to your country (where you can renew your passport). If you're not up to date with your ACR fees, you'll have to settle the fines with the Bureau of Immigration prior to your travel.

I have an acr card and have never had ecc certificate and we leave the country every year for our trip to the states. We're on a cruise in Alaska right now. We just go to immigration office in tacloban and pay the travel tax two weeks before we fly. And show the receipt to the immigration officer at the airport and they never ask for anything else

I have been to the Philippines 3x in the last 5 years (former Filipino). I only present my Canadian passport and they stamp and write the date of arrival and 1 yr after date of arrival. They write BB or Balikbayan near the stamp. They never ask for old Phil passport. Canadian passport has a Place of Birth written on it that’s why immig offers know that you’re former Filipino.

If they are foreign citizens & not dual, then they can get a student visa (will need docs from the school). If they are dual citizens, then they don't need a visa. If you are a PH citizen or former Filipino citizen, then they can travel with you & get 1 year balikbayan privilege - bring their birth certificates to show relationship to you. Before the 1 year ends, they can leave the country to visit you, then travel with them again for them to get Balikbayan privilege. (they can't get it if they travel alone/ without you)
