Tragic that this beautiful place cannot be visited again. Doesn't help the shop has some REALLY neat things that you can miss out on advancing the story into Disc 4.

A very accurate post. When I listen to the notes I admire the emotion with which the longness for freedom, nostalgia of a displaced people, epic melancholy are displayed. Free Palestine and all that.

Calm but feels a bit ominous. I'm also bummed that the enemy-less outside section of this place was short lived and turned so soon into an extension of the world map with its Garuda encounters. Since then EG became more like a dungeon and less like a place of respite like say, Dali or Cleyra

Beautiful track. It has a much different vibe compared to the rest of the soundtrack. It kinda reminds me of Tenebrae from FFXV

1:05 Zidane "Tell me where they went! Was there a little girl with them?" "My friend's life is in danger! Tell me what you know, now!"
Bishop "All life is equal. The living will return to the stars." "Through the Path of Souls on the Shimmering Island."
That isn't what Zidane asked, what made this guy start saying this?
Also, considering that the Shimmering Island is actually a way to Terra, what is the basis of Esto Gaza's spirituality here?
Zidane "What are you talking about? Didn't the black mages have a girl with them?"
Steiner "How dare a man of the cloth turn a blind eye to evil!"
Bishop "I just watched them." "Besides, they didn't do anything wrong."
…Really? A guy like Kuja who wears a man thong and has an unconscious little girl with him didn't set off any alarm bells for you?
[Flashback scene. A young boy jumps around frantically; his mother comes on, and drags him off screen. The bishop watches on as tons of black mages walk on screen, in a straight line, then off screen]
Bishop "They barged in, hundreds of them! So, that was the dreaded black mage army..." "They headed straight for Mount Gulug without even looking at me."
Wait, how does this guy know about the Black Mages? Isn't this place supposed to be isolated? Couple that with the whole "tourist attraction" in Esto Gaza that apparently people from the Mist Continent visit and it makes the world building one big mess.
    Zidane "Mount Gulug?"
As in the location in FFI of the same name, get it? The FFI stuff will get even more blatant once we get to the shrines, the four fiends and Garland.
Bishop "An enormous volcano that went extinct in the days of old." "Legend has it that a race of great moles lived within the caverns."
Now we are injecting a pointless lore bit about moles in here? Honestly it would have been simpler to just say that people in Esto Gaza just mined the place. Also, wasn't the entrance supposed to be sealed off, why would there be moles in there?
Bishop "But that was very long ago. No mortal has entered those depths ever since the entrance was mysteriously sealed."
Apparently the Gulug stone is what unlocks that seal, which is why Kuja wanted it. But why? So he could extract the Eidolons from the summoners? Why couldn't he just set up an extraction circle in the Desert Palace and do that there as soon as Zidane and the summoners were captured, instead of setting up that dumb fetch quest for the Gulug Stone? Is it because of the location? That's stupid because geographic positioning/environment was never implied to have a part in Eidolon extraction, considering that Alexandria had an extraction circle in it's dungeon that was clearly set up there by Kuja.
Also, why was the entrance sealed in the first place, and how did the item that unlocks it, the Gulug stone, wind up all the way in Oeilvert on a whole other continent? This is never explained. Mount Gulug seems to have some connection to Terra, what with the Terra emblem at its bottom, and the Gulug stone which is also shaped as the Terra emblem.
Several places from Terra shifted to Gaia from the fusion attempt, the Ultimania stated them to be Oeilvert, Desert Palace, Ipsen's Castle, and apparently Mount Gulug, but what is confusing is the treasure chests. Places from Terra have different treasure chests from Gaia, the Terra chests are blue while Gaia chests are brown and also differently shaped, the blue chests can be found in Oeilvert and Ipsen's Castle, (in the Desert Palace's case, it has absolutely no treasure chests in it, you get items from the blood stones instead) but in Mount Gulug, the chests there are the brown Gaia ones.
The moles couldn't have been the ones that sealed off the entrance, because they had no idea about Terra, and how would they even know about Oeilvert and putting the Gulug Stone there?
What is the connection with the extraction ritual and Terra anyways? The extraction circles use the Terra symbol, but it's never really explained.

0:00 Going to point out again that there is a random tourist attraction in Esto Gaza on the Lost Continent ( which comes out of nowhere, after never being mentioned before and apparently people from Lindblum take vacations there), despite that Esto Gaza is supposed to be isolated and it being stated earlier in the game that the rest of the world outside of the Mist Continent was “unexplored”, the world building is a complete train wreck.

I really love the setting of FFIX but you do have a point, I've often wondered why they claim the other continents are so poorly explored and mysterious but then you see people here at the furthest reaches of Esto Gaza, and also people in the secluded optional area of Daguerreo. At least you can reach Esto Gaza by sea, but Daguerreo is on a plateau only accessible by a non-mist powered airship (or chocobo I guess).

@@Pikpikmatefor daguerro it kind of makes sense? Because most stay there reading books or they are adventurers (hence how they found it), although for esto Gaza I can’t really think of a reason, I mean there are quite a few bishops so maybe they just found it and never left to tell people about it? Idk tho I’d love to hear other people’s theories
