I worked for Gene Woods at his track in Victorville Speedway USA, great guy to work for told me a lot of great racing stories. Hung around with Rick Woods at his place in Havasu where he had a boat recovery business, votes that sunk in the late Lake and River. Another good guy to hang around. Both were fast in the dirt.R.I.P RICK
Rick Woods was the greatest I've ever seen. Mike Bast was great too! I went to every race for a couple of years. Let's see if I can remember this right. Tuesday night: Ventura. Wednesday night: Bakersfield. Thursday night: Irwindale. Friday night: Costa Mesa. Saturday night: Auburn. Pretty busy schedule. I saw some great racing. The Two-racer Match Races were great. Bast vs. Woods. Schwartz vs. Lucero. Becker vs. Anybody. My sister's husband, Dan Paulus, ran The Black Knights Racing Team.
arklat ,, Wow.. didn't realized Rick Woods died..been out of the loop for decades.. Used to go to the Friday night Costa Mesa races.. Rick Woods was my fave..always rooting for him..although yes Mike Bast won probably more championships as I recall.. in all white leathers..woods was orange.. Great memories as a kid in the early- mid 70's .. I tagged along with my childhood friend and his dad. Dale Howard. Was part of a "pitsman" crew called "The Jackrabbits."
I had a poster if Rick Woods in my bedroom in the 70's ..speedway champion.. in his custom orange helmet and leathers... Among a Farrah Faucet red bathing suit poster. And many 70's rock bands..primarily Led Zeppelin..
