Thank you for showing the process of milling your corn. Using freshly milled flour is a very new thing to this great-grandmother. I cook primarily Mexican food with the corn and flour tortillas so bread making is very new to me. Will definitely try your recipe as my husband loves corn bread. Can this recipe be used to make those johnny cakes? My daughter’s MIL makes those using a jiffy mix.
Man, I love homemade cornbread. You speaking my language now. I love that you grind your own meal. I have thought about getting a mill to and making my own flour, grits, and cornmeal. So cool. Did you grow the corn too? We don't use sugar in our cornbread much here. I know ppl are split on that lol. We use real butter as well. Wow golden brown, just like mama makes it haha. It's hard to beat cast iron cornbread. Yum. Flipping out like that is always a scary thing lol Like is it going to come out perfect or is it going to stick haha. Good job guys. Love it. I like to drizzle honey on mine too lol
Hey there! Thanks for subscribing. We order the dry organic corn. It’s not grown at our place. As long as you get the skillet nice and hot the cornbread usually doesn’t stick. We have had it stick before and yes all the crunchy goodness pulled off of the cornbread. Hot skillet = successful flipping!! Thanks for watching!
Hey there! We buy dry, organic, non-GMO whole corn. Amazon or Azure Standard is where we buy our grains. Thanks for watching and hopefully this answers your question.
Hi Debra! - We ordered from the place that makes them in Montana. It’s called a GrainMaker. You can go to their web page GrainMaker.com and see them there. They are expensive but are quality units. We have been very happy with it. If we can answer any other questions please let us know and we would be glad to help. Thanks for watching and take care! :) - Tom & LeeAnn
Apologies, but 1/2 a cup of sugar? You have to be from Ohio or very close therein. No self-respecting Southerner would ever conjoin the phrases "Half a cup of sugar and cornbread."
I see you live in Indiana. I live in Jeffersonville Indiana. Just got my mill. Can’t wait to make the cornbread.
@@joycedwyer8778 let us know how you like it. 😁 blessings.
Despite my erudite criticisms, I would rather enjoy sitting down at that table:
Great job, and thanks.
No need to critique. Thank You! May God bless you in the days to come.
Thank you, I’m getting started in grinding my own flours including 🌽
I subscribed for the recipe and "she’s so bossy", lol!
Glad to have you here, lol.
Thanks for the recipe. I will try tonight. My first time making cornbread. Greetings from Puerto Rico!! 😉
Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy it!!! Snow here, so Puerto Rico sounds good right now. :) stay safe!

Yes, make johnny cakes with this!
@@OutdoorsandCountryLiving Thank you for your response. Did you put your milled flour in your cornbread too?
@@cocacolafiesta yes, as that’s all we use.

Outdoors and Country Living Ypu are welcome! Yeah I always get mine hot like that. Love that crunchy bottom. Have a good one!
I would love to grind my own stuff, but I’m in town, and water is high! Do you know where I can buy wheat berries?💕🙏

What kind of corn would I need to buy to mill it
We use dry, whole, organic, non-GMO yellow corn. We purchase the whole corn in bulk from Azure Standard and have ordered it in the past thru Amazon.
Came here to find out what kind of corn to buy for grinding into corn meal.

Do you use white or yellow corn?
Where did you get your mill?

You’re welcome and thanks for watching!
I thought I put "stone ground" in my search-string.
No old fashioned stone grinding here, just stainless burs on our food mill grind corn into cornmeal. Hopefully you find what you’re looking for.
@@OutdoorsandCountryLiving Thank you. I did find it. An electric stone grinder from a company called 'Saltzberger.'

That’s the nice thing about making your own cornbread..you can make it to your liking. The sugar is optional.
