Handled the Muslim or non-Muslim question very well, and I'd like to share my personal experience. As a person of Pakistani origin living abroad, I visited India last year. Not once did anyone there ask me about my religion. However, when I crossed back into Pakistan at the Wagah border, a man selling currency on the black market right outside the immigration building asked me about my religion. I replied, 'I am a human being.' He kept insisting and eventually became aggressive, saying, 'Why are you visiting Pakistan? It’s a Muslim country.' I felt ashamed of this attitude, which sadly reflects some of the reasons Pakistan is a failed nation.
Don't become mama. After realising that Mr Malhotra is Hindu, did his attitude change to condescending? He still showed extreme respect, even gave information about Hindu related history & geography. Showed extreme respect by bowing when bidding farewell.

In my experience abroad, this question pertaining to asking about Religion comes from people from North African Countries, Pakistan and very few occasion from Turks. People from the rest of the countries don't bother asking about Religion at all. Manoj, you showed great maturity in dealing with this persistent dude. My insight is that exposure of the people is revealed via such questions as others have the ability to connect with human beings based of lot of other things instead.

He looks like a Pakistani Muslim man, from any angle he does not look like Hindu. He is Sikh and his ancestors maybe Muslim thats why he sounds like Muslim, in most mosques in north India you will see some man look and talk just like him.

North Indian Muslims look similar to Pakistanis because of similar ancestry. Pakistani is not an ethnicity, they are just misguided north Indian Muslims who were much better off living happily with Hindu, Sikh neighbors before the partition.

@mohammadcity4552 my 7 generation of ancestors has been hindu in India only, so I have no such association with Pakistan. But I am curious about this land, mainly because of mohojodaro and shared history.
