Diana Doherty is a quintessential pro, who's got it all: technique, feeling, personality (which comes through in her playing), and a wonderfully engaging, yet self-effacing quality when teaching. A consummate musician.
i studied oboe, but unfurtunately i didn't make it as an oboist...neverthless, I recognize a good oboist when I listen to him/her... and Diana Doherty is first at all an Artist and a Musician, and an Oboist as well ... Scala di Seta is one of the most difficult oboe solos, almost impossible to play without Double Staccato unless you play it slow or you cheat playing legato from time to time.... BRAVO ! Just listen to her incredible recording of Romantic Oboe Concertos !
Wonderful playing. I've always loved this instrument used on Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection produced by Gus Dudgeon. Love the melodic staccato as opposed to the machine-like pulse. Thank you for sharing.
My opinion is technique is a must, but for music to sound good you have to have both... Technique that is at least "good enough" and your musical character can do the rest. If you play all the wrong notes, there's no way you can get any character across.
OH WOW DO i AGREE WITH WHAT DIANA SAID!!!!! There is far too much emphasis these days on double-tonging, circular breathing and general technique and not enough on musical character!!!!
Although she is already extremely good, compared with another masterclass given by Christoph Hartmann, her technique, in my opinion, is still slightly less perfect...

Wonderful insights. Thank you for posting. Also, what oboe does she play on? Beautiful tone.
Chain Killer pretty sure she plays a marigaux

She's rushing the 8th notes in the fast part
She isn’t.
