They are sensitive to vibrations in air currents. As the air moves, the whiskers vibrate, and dogs use messages in these vibrations to sense the presence, size and shape of nearby objects. Whiskers help protect the eyes. Any touch to the whiskers causes the eyelids to blink.

I believe removing whiskers is a pretty common practice on show dogs, but whiskers are necessary for cats, for the reasons previously mentioned.

This is a show dog and that's what should be done. I'm sure 98% of show dogs aren't out in the field and have to watch out for predators.

Poor dog. Obviously she's been spayed and that damaged her coat.
She's probably not been spayed if she's a show dog and show lines typically have the head floof. It's the field setters that don't have that.
