The actual "War" part in WW2 was not as much of a gritty worthless bloodbath as WW1. The saddest thing about WW1 is that most of its battles were completely fruitless. Yes, WW2 had a lot of casualties, but WW2 battles actually gave results more often than not. In WW1 you had millions of young men fighting and dying over the same 10km-wide stretch of land for 4 years.
Alex Mansfield I'd say the lengths of evil and sheer casualties in WWII made it worse. Not only did the Nazis industrialize mass murder, the Japanese were cutting a bloody swathe through the rest of Asia with fanatical vigor, and the Soviets starved their own "undesirables" to death.
Obviously, otherwise it wouldn't be called a world war. But the reasoning behind the conflict came from European politics, plus it's also where it was fought out.

Yeah, but it's like making a game about Europe in WW2 and saying "Hey, you'll get the Germans in an expansion pack!" making you fight Italians instead. Seriously, Russia and France were the two largest militaries of the war, with France being the majority of the Western Front Entente forces and Russia literally forming the entire Eastern front in Europe.
I find WWI weapons to be very interesting since people were still figuring most of it out. There were a lot of crazy designs and ideas. Also, I am glad that Battlefield 1 uses many of the experimental guns as it makes it more interesting. It is clearly not going for a simulator style of game.
@@b..3543 I actually like the route they took with this game. They took a lot of creative liberty with the elite kits, behemoths, and weapon choices but I think it all works together quite well. I can see where you are coming from but I don't think that a game completely full of bolt action rifles would really fit with the Battlefield style of pacing. Just my thoughts though.
Hey I'm 14 I like WWI and... I admit I'm a huge history nerd. Hey imagine a realistic WWI game where you sit in the same spot for 3 hours until your randomly and instantly killed by a shell.
The so called "silly hat" is legendary. Soldiers wearing that hat stopped The Desert Fox, held the Japanese in Singapore (before the bloody Brits gave us up). Australian soldiers had a reputation for being the toughest troops in the British Commonwealth in both World Wars.
I love ww1 history and I can accept this is an exaggerated interpretation it could be that the soldiers were so traumatized they saw a much more exaggerated version of ww1

Cartman C considering the military is heading in the direction of exosuits and technology now, I'd say games like Advanced Warfare, Bo3, etc. are actually realistic in a sense. It's a very likely future for warfare.
The "Great Forgotten War", veterans suffered inconceivable PTSD and they did not want to speak of the war. They internalized much of the trauma, which incidentally also was part of the issue of how WW2 started, societies didn't realize how bad it could be. Even today it's hard to imagine such a senseless loss of life with little gain.
"Gritty Realism" That explains the one Italian dude strapped with armored plates and an LMG single handedly taking a mountain pass from an entrenched force and then taking out an air squadron before getting crashed directly into by a plane, which he survives. I must have missed that section of my college World War history class that I took last semester.
Alright... how would you lads make a campaign where you're following one guy's story?? It's a game at the end of the day... some bits of realism have to be sacrificed
I'm not saying they didn't, but if it let you solo an entrenched mountain position and survive a plane to the face then I'm pretty sure everyone would have been decked out with it. To me, this game kinda killed the whole feel of World War I. It was a war of numbers, not waged by one man armies. With the exception of Alvin York I suppose.
Khinzaw Thein mate:.. it's a game... it's not a WW1 simulator.:. There is a line between realism and fun... they did the whole war of numbers kind of thing in the prologue to show you what it was like and then they stepped back on to the fun side because that's what this game is... FUN!!
And a gritty WWI game that actually felt like WWI would be fun to me. The sheer absurdity of the stories in this kill some of the enjoyment. Using a fighter to take out AA guns, for example, is such a stupid moment that it pulls me out of the game.
Simeon Dimitrov I played the game a lot, and I can say that there is not a single Black german Soldier in this game, be it Singleplayer or Multiplayer. The germans HAD Black soldiers in their colonial armies, but none of that is in the game.
Well, lots not talk about accuracy with BF1, because that is going to be an underwhelming discussion. And if you want to actually learn something about WW1, check out the youtube channel The Great War.
I was on the BF1 reddit and it hurt how everyone thought they were in some hardcore tactical realistic shooter that was an accurate representation of war. Meanwhile there are about 3 guys with rifles at a time, and 61 with mp18s in a game...
if any of you are interested in a fairly decent tactical fps (that is completly free) check out Project Reality. I have a few videos on my channel, but people like Guru951 and Bluedrake42 are probably the best (for different reasons)
As short as the campaign was, I loved it..I never felt more connected to a character in a game. The transitional gameplay followed by the birth and death dates was chilling and kept the gameplay going smoothly
those games don't count for shit as they are not WW1 There is only one good/realistic/solid WW1 shooter that actually takes place in WW1 and plays out how battles in WW1 would actually play out AKA Verdun store.steampowered.com/app/242860/
They got the dying really quickly part right. As well as for a game that goes back to WW1 they did the best they could to make it fun, trust me it's extremely fun. Also, if you want realism I believe they're making a trench warfare kind of thing, might not be true but it's what I've heard.
It's realistic to a point. Dying as fast as you do is realistic but still takes like half a mag for some reason. Another way its not is that when you get hit but a bullet you don't just keep sprinting or keep ADS shooting, you're in a lot of pain, it would bring you to your knees type pain.

In my history oriented mindset I justified the automatic weapons by acting like this is alternate history were the war ragged into the 1920s. Where Russia peaced out and the French are holding back after a failed offensive into German territory.
Not one comment on the fact, that the story only shows you the Allied side? No Germany, no Austria-Hungary to be played in campaign. This could have been the possibility to show the horror of this war on both sides
Machine guns weren't exactly prototypes, nor were shotguns, nor were scoped rifles (snipers were huge during world war 1), this video is a joke and all, but still *long groan*
PIERCESTORM PRODUCTIONS the bulk of machine guns where mounted, not shouldered. everyone running around with those kind of weapons in this period is ridiculous.
there still is alot of prototype guns in the game when you literally have hundreds of weapons used in the war to pick from. YET dice had to go with adhd kids who have no aim for consol.
BAR, Mercie, madsen and lewis guns were definitely used shouldered, but yeah stuff like the MG08/15 were 70 kg. I don't think a single guy would shoulder that :p

Pretty sure there is some kind of deal going on, because that's not the first time it happens, and I never get them on unrelated videos. Though if it is, it's a pretty stupid one because you are already watching bf1 material.
He could at least be honest here. The "Did You Know Gaming" channel made an episode for AC Unity, but the title itself announced it was sponsored by Ubisoft. They got much respect there. EA didn't do the same probably because sponsored stuff usually gets a fewer audience, or it makes the viewers watch with more scepticism, the last thing an advertiser wants.
battlefield 1 is not a game for history lovers like me. it is a game for the average fps gamer. if you like historical realism that feels respectful to ww1 then play verdun.

Before people get the chance to annoyingly whine about the fact that most of the weapons in the game were prototypes that were barely used in the war, rendering this game historically inaccurate, bear in mind that DICE said it was an ALTERNATE timeline for WWI for a reason. They used the prototypes to add gun variety and to preserve the weapon classes people are used to in any FPS in general. And so, the idea that these weapons DID exist in the war makes the gameplay, for an alternate timeline, pretty accurate. I rest my case, your honor.
Besides the fact that DICE never said that it was an alternate timeline WWI, that's no excuse even if they did. The game is a WWII shooter with a WWI skin slapped over it and they really should've gone for that setting instead.
Exactly that's the point ...if you go with the setting stick with it and make it work. I've had plenty of fun in Mount&Blade Napoleonic Wars and they had even less guns than WWI.
The acts of heroism depicted beyond the intro to the game are ludicrously unrealistic as you take on the role of a group of fictional one-man-armies who would go down after a few minutes in reality. Does the game have to be realistic? Certainly not, but the true nature of the conflict is disgracefully depicted in the campaign, with characters who somehow hadn't been aged +30 years and weren't dull-faced miserable due to the massive amounts of stress from mechanized trench warfare. There is no emotional appeal beyond the intro to the game because the realism of the characters and scenarios are so out of historical or conceivable context that any veteran's or historian's face would melt off as if looking into the Ark of the Covenant. Go watch a documentary instead of drooling over these superficial levels of visual spectacle and character.
And in terms of character, technology and setting, historical accuracy does matter because the game is depicting a real time in history, so to give the player full-proof body armor and a hand-held Gatling gun to run UP HILL, for example in the campaign, is to give Union and Confederate soldiers assault rifles- that does not work.

That tiny gun was real but was basically useless because if it hit a coat or something it will just bounce off. It was basically a slightly better BB gun. Btw it was called the hummingbird.
Believe me. The campaign has nothing to do with World War I. And showed zero respect to the other side. And if anything I thought this showed zero respect to World War I due to the horrendous inaccuracy and outlandish game play. Personally I strongly disliked the campaign because it was nothing like World War I and the stories were so poorly written and repetitive. They really could have shown the brutality and pointlessness of World War I. But instead it was everyone running around with machine guns. And for some reason the Germans attacking London in 1918 with Zeppelins (which they stopped using earlier). And Dr. I's which would have no where near the fuel capacity to reach London. I thought Call of Duty World at War did an incredible job at depicting World War II. But this game was downright awful. Multiplayer is good though.
John Rambo I believe dice's take on world war 1 deviates from the way it actually happened on purpose. I do believe they meant to make a game based on the war, but not what it was actually like.
Beast Boy One of my major issues with the campaign however is that at the very end the message was that they would keep on fighting. The moral of the story that should have been learned from World War I, is that war is hell, and is by no means a good thing. They should have ended it on a note of how utterly pointless and heartbreaking this war was, and that over 11 million men died for nothing, and millions more were crippled for life or badly wounded. They should have also noted that this war only set the stage for World War II which cost over 60 million lives. The overall message should have been an anti-war one. Much like the message in "All Quiet on the Western Front", and "Johnny Got His Gun." But the final cut scene was a whole bunch of combat scenes with uplifting music as if fighting this war was beneficial to anyone. That truly discouraged me. It was very despicable and disrespectful as war is not entertaining. Least of all World War I.

How were the stories poorly written and repetitive? Did they not show the brutality and pointlessness in the prologue? Friends in High Places takes place in 1917, Zeppelin raids still occurred. You do know that this is a video game, right? Are you sure you're not mistaking the multiplayer with the campaign? There are many historical inaccuracies in Call of Duty World At War and they definitely didn't show any respect for the other side. The ending was just a way of saying that the soldiers would be remembered, sure it could have been done a little bit better but it's definitely not pro war.
Im just happy that someone actually knows about RO! Thank you! RO2 makes every single other current FPS look like crap to me. Nothing compares to how RO2 pulls you into the gameplay and forces you to learn to fight in a manner that is half way accurate.

What? Closer to the end, more agresive everything was. Everyone got move resperate, running low on supplies so frontline changed quite fast and often + new technologies - tanks and evolution of aircraft made trench wartafe like first years obsolete. Look up at battles ever since german offensive or even more 100 days offensive.

Honest trailers are losing their balls
I was not expecting the emotional impact of the campaign, setting aside the game elements it was a very well written story. I just wish it was longer.
Most epic moment was the one with the pigeon imo. So calm and peaceful and thrilling. But there were a lot of other emotionla moments too.

The "Great Forgotten War", veterans suffered inconceivable PTSD and they did not want to speak of the war. They internalized much of the trauma, which incidentally also was part of the issue of how WW2 started, societies didn't realize how bad it could be. Even today it's hard to imagine such a senseless loss of life with little gain.
"Gritty Realism" That explains the one Italian dude strapped with armored plates and an LMG single handedly taking a mountain pass from an entrenched force and then taking out an air squadron before getting crashed directly into by a plane, which he survives. I must have missed that section of my college World War history class that I took last semester.
Alright... how would you lads make a campaign where you're following one guy's story?? It's a game at the end of the day... some bits of realism have to be sacrificed
actually they did have armor like that in ww1, now of course it wasn't that effective, and that campaign mission is quite ridiculous.
I'm not saying they didn't, but if it let you solo an entrenched mountain position and survive a plane to the face then I'm pretty sure everyone would have been decked out with it. To me, this game kinda killed the whole feel of World War I. It was a war of numbers, not waged by one man armies. With the exception of Alvin York I suppose.

And a gritty WWI game that actually felt like WWI would be fun to me. The sheer absurdity of the stories in this kill some of the enjoyment. Using a fighter to take out AA guns, for example, is such a stupid moment that it pulls me out of the game.

I was on the BF1 reddit and it hurt how everyone thought they were in some hardcore tactical realistic shooter that was an accurate representation of war. Meanwhile there are about 3 guys with rifles at a time, and 61 with mp18s in a game...

As short as the campaign was, I loved it..I never felt more connected to a character in a game. The transitional gameplay followed by the birth and death dates was chilling and kept the gameplay going smoothly

It's realistic to a point. Dying as fast as you do is realistic but still takes like half a mag for some reason. Another way its not is that when you get hit but a bullet you don't just keep sprinting or keep ADS shooting, you're in a lot of pain, it would bring you to your knees type pain.

Machine guns weren't exactly prototypes, nor were shotguns, nor were scoped rifles (snipers were huge during world war 1), this video is a joke and all, but still

there still is alot of prototype guns in the game when you literally have hundreds of weapons used in the war to pick from. YET dice had to go with adhd kids who have no aim for consol.
BAR, Mercie, madsen and lewis guns were definitely used shouldered, but yeah stuff like the MG08/15 were 70 kg. I don't think a single guy would shoulder that :p

Before people get the chance to annoyingly whine about the fact that most of the weapons in the game were prototypes that were barely used in the war, rendering this game historically inaccurate, bear in mind that DICE said it was an ALTERNATE timeline for WWI for a reason. They used the prototypes to add gun variety and to preserve the weapon classes people are used to in any FPS in general. And so, the idea that these weapons DID exist in the war makes the gameplay, for an alternate timeline, pretty accurate. I rest my case, your honor.

Besides the fact that DICE never said that it was an alternate timeline WWI, that's no excuse even if they did. The game is a WWII shooter with a WWI skin slapped over it and they really should've gone for that setting instead.
Exactly that's the point ...if you go with the setting stick with it and make it work. I've had plenty of fun in Mount&Blade Napoleonic Wars and they had even less guns than WWI.

The acts of heroism depicted beyond the intro to the game are ludicrously unrealistic as you take on the role of a group of fictional one-man-armies who would go down after a few minutes in reality. Does the game have to be realistic? Certainly not, but the true nature of the conflict is disgracefully depicted in the campaign, with characters who somehow hadn't been aged +30 years and weren't dull-faced miserable due to the massive amounts of stress from mechanized trench warfare. There is no emotional appeal beyond the intro to the game because the realism of the characters and scenarios are so out of historical or conceivable context that any veteran's or historian's face would melt off as if looking into the Ark of the Covenant. Go watch a documentary instead of drooling over these superficial levels of visual spectacle and character.
And in terms of character, technology and setting, historical accuracy does matter because the game is depicting a real time in history, so to give the player full-proof body armor and a hand-held Gatling gun to run UP HILL, for example in the campaign, is to give Union and Confederate soldiers assault rifles- that does not work.

Believe me. The campaign has nothing to do with World War I. And showed zero respect to the other side. And if anything I thought this showed zero respect to World War I due to the horrendous inaccuracy and outlandish game play.
Personally I strongly disliked the campaign because it was nothing like World War I and the stories were so poorly written and repetitive.
They really could have shown the brutality and pointlessness of World War I. But instead it was everyone running around with machine guns. And for some reason the Germans attacking London in 1918 with Zeppelins (which they stopped using earlier). And Dr. I's which would have no where near the fuel capacity to reach London.
I thought Call of Duty World at War did an incredible job at depicting World War II. But this game was downright awful.
Multiplayer is good though.
John Rambo I believe dice's take on world war 1 deviates from the way it actually happened on purpose. I do believe they meant to make a game based on the war, but not what it was actually like.
Beast Boy One of my major issues with the campaign however is that at the very end the message was that they would keep on fighting. The moral of the story that should have been learned from World War I, is that war is hell, and is by no means a good thing.
They should have ended it on a note of how utterly pointless and heartbreaking this war was, and that over 11 million men died for nothing, and millions more were crippled for life or badly wounded. They should have also noted that this war only set the stage for World War II which cost over 60 million lives.
The overall message should have been an anti-war one. Much like the message in "All Quiet on the Western Front", and "Johnny Got His Gun." But the final cut scene was a whole bunch of combat scenes with uplifting music as if fighting this war was beneficial to anyone. That truly discouraged me. It was very despicable and disrespectful as war is not entertaining. Least of all World War I.

Everyone got move resperate, running low on supplies so frontline changed quite fast and often + new technologies - tanks and evolution of aircraft made trench wartafe like first years obsolete.
