ddbrown22 typical Bejar, and a good lesson I started using myself. He likes to change the words of the chorus just slightly, sometimes to just completely negate the meaning of the previous chorus.
As a french, i think Bejar is one of the greatest lyricist I know, one of my favorite at least. I noticed what you wrote too but I'm not really sure about the little differences between the four lines. If you see this and have Time to dig a little deeper I would higly apprecitate it. I love his writing but I'm sûre I dont understand everything he says
I see what you think he is saying but that's not what he means at all... Usually adding "to anyone" infers that whether it's "it" or "this", he means that it DOES HAPPEN, just not to anyone, only select few for select reasons. "It" and "this" can be the same thing i.e. "it hit me in the face the other day" *picks up item* "THIS hit me in the face the other day" just depends on the context and the placement of the subject in question. Another example would be "that over there is so pretty" "What's so pretty?" *gets closer to item* "THIS is so pretty!" different word depending on proximity and context but referring to the same item.
@@Lulu-mj2fi I see what your saying. I just think it is trippy. Let's take a different example: It isn't just funny It just isn't funny U would agree that those two have different meanings? Adding "to anyone" does seem to make the meaning more similar, and it does seem to imply that the person is special for the thing happening to them. But the flipping between the two is just trippy and to me at least causes me to think what the difference is between the two. To my ear, "it doesn't just happen" has much more the feel of the person being special...u won the lottery? That doesn't just happen to anyone! But if you say, u won the lottery? That just doesn't happen to anyone! The emphasis is more the event being so unlikely. The fact that I put so much thought into this now is precisely what I meant by his lyrics being a trip

Love the video. The struggle to see something palpable in the darkness is quite appropriate, force you to pay close attention to the details. It's interesting to note a sense of denial since Kaputt. This time, though, reluctant but playful
@@Zapthelight There's a reconnection with LABYRINTHITIS, but through the time of "Have We Met," "ken" and "Poison Seasons" there's a deep sense of decay expressed by songs like "Girl in a Sling," a murmur song about material futility, "Stay Lost," a protesting song about the culture of happiness and "Cue Synthesizer," a disturbed song about how shallow not only arts but our social environment is becoming. LABYRINTHITIS may feel kind of disoriented but, actually, is a clearheaded album.
I dunno...I mean, it's good if like, um, you consider fucking incredible songs to be good...and I guess the upcoming album is gonna be purchased by me on January 31st, 2020, but you know, cos I'm probably gonna be like, you know, bored that day. And stuff.
Here's my take: the album "Have We Met" was released in a pre-pandemic and post-truth era and it kind of deals with humanity's decadence. Here in this song, the character who the narrator is observing isn't comfortable facing the truth, hoping things could just happen out of the blue, although deep down he knows that he's somewhat deluded. The tension building up in the verses culminates in a chorus echoing throughout his mind like a reality shock, reminding him that his actions indeed have consequences and that we live in a world based on cause and effect. I see this character as someone who could also very well be skeptical about science, believing that pandemics would simply disappear, the earth is flat or climate change is bullshit.
Even darker now. It's not a thing that just happens, and then disappears www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/14/trump-coronavirus-alerts-disinformation-timeline

One of the best songs this year.
This could work as a soundtrack for a 80s vampire movie discotheque scene
Destroyer are simply the best band producing music today!!
I would put Future Islands as equals as well
This is standing out as my favourite on the album....
Beautiful. Night drive Destroyer time ya'll
Again you dazzle my ears with extremely delicious music. God Bless you Destroyer...my foot is on tap, when you musicians rock the air...
Word up, so delicious
Beautiful song of the year
You cast a poisonous look to the sun!
You're looking good
In spite of the light
And the air
And the time of the night
They play your favorite song
"She's Just Too Dark To Care"
"High Water Everywhere"
"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"
You throw yourself down on the playground
Skid to a halt on the runway
You cast a poisonous look to the sun
You know it just doesn't happen to anyone
You know this doesn't just happen to anyone
I find
The silence
Unbearable
What does that say about the silence
Versus the violin
And the moonlight
And the moonshine
And your empty pen?

Similar to the songs from the Jordan: The Comeback era or Protest Songs
@@theletterbleeds Precisely. There's that keyboard sound at 1:30 that sounds just like Jordan.
I love so much Steve McQueen
Bass line reminds me of crest by stereolab.
