    According to Leonard Nimoy, this was his favorite episode and he especially felt that it was William Shatner's finest acting at the end. Happy 84th Birthday to Mr. Shatner.

    This is my favorite episode. The moral obligation of Captain Kirk is deep. This show presented thought provoking situations and often left me asking why or saying wow!

    I can watch - indeed HAVE watched - this episode over & over, and still absolutely love it. Somehow everything has been elevated in this episode... the acting, the sets...and of course the fabulous storyline. It's got everything...I particularly like Spock's indignant reaction when his scientific knowledge is being belittled by the Guardian, such great acting from Nimoy in this episode, and from Shatner too...definitely my all time favourite Star Trek!

    The Guardian: "Many such journeys are possible. Let me be your gateway."Kirk's reply is so profound. LET'S GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE. He wants no more journeys to the past if comes to tragedy like what he just went through. He wants no more of time travel back into time. The expression on his face is priceless.

    Keeler thinks it’s strange Kirk and McCoy haven’t heard of Clark Gable, but if anything, she’s the one who is strange: in 1930, Clark Gable was still an unknown stage and sometimes film bit part actor.

      pismo10 -- if you remember from Doom, you could kill a monster (or other player in Deathmatch) with a "telefrag". If you appeared on a teleport pad when someone else was already on it, that someone else was history INSTANTLY, no matter how many hit points he/she/it had. "Uh oh" is right!

    • @g00gleminus96

      It's a common misconception that people need to be on or beaming to a pad to use the transporter. They do not. The transporter can beam anyone to anywhere from anywhere (inside it's range), and that includes the transporter room. The pads just help the system smooth things out.

      There'd be no reason to. Unless, perhaps Kirk decides having Edith, his true love, is worth altering history for so he goes back and saves her this time. But, were he to do that, Starfleet would never be there, therefore he'd never get the opportunity to go back and save her. A paradox would arise.

  • @WayneKeen

    Logically, shouldn't Kirk and Spock have first attempted to dissuade Edith Keeler from her pacifist course -- urging that this was not the time? Even to the extent of telling who they were and where they had come from? Given her imagination and accurate insight into the immediate future, she might well have believed them and accepted what they had to say. Then it wouldn't have been necessary to allow her to die.

      In the animated series Spock actually goes back to the time portal and goes thru to Vulcan in his own past and meets himself.
      Also there are a couple books based on this episode. One is from McCoy's perspective and it actually has two story lines where McCoy becomes a doctor in the south and ends up dying in his older years from i think a farm accident? Then the other story line is how he meets up with Kirk and Spock.

    The gate really doesn’t make sense.
    One. If all was changed by McCoy then how is Scottie, Uhura, Kirk and Spock still there?
    Two, why would anyone jump back if by doing so they would change history meaning when they came back all they knew could be gone?

    • @Brandon98rp
      @Brandon98rp 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One- yes it would be possible for Scotty and the rest of them to be there because original history would record their presence there. An alternate time line was created from a moment after they were ALREADY there that stranded them.
      Two- The ONLY reason you would "jump back" would be to correct a mistake which altered the future. Which is what Spock and Kirk did.

    I hate to criticize such a poignant and classic piece of TV, but the way this is staged is quite bizarre. It doesn’t make sense that she doesn’t look both ways before crossing the street. Also, they’re all looking at her and coming toward her with panic on their faces, and yet somehow she doesn’t realize that means she’s in danger. Moreover, to save her, all McCoy had to do was scream “LOOK OUT” to alert Edith of the danger she’s in. A vocal warning could’ve made her break into a run onto the sidewalk and avoid the truck. It’s a great piece of writing, the concept is poignant and powerful, but I just feel like the execution could have been much better. As it is, it’s rather awkward and implausible.

    • @Brandon98rp
      @Brandon98rp 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll beg to differ with you. First off she was no doubt excited to learn these 3 new people in her life actually knew each other. So she was preoccupied with believing she was about to get some answers as to their origin. Secondly, McCoy wasn't focused on vocalizing to Edith he believes he has time to reach her. The shock of Kirk preventing his movement froze him in place and fate did the rest. I'd say written perfectly.
