It's hard to see a modern musical adaptation of a twenty year old movie that you know inside out, and not constantly compare the two. However, all of the cast did a stellar job, with Renee Rapp stealing the show as Regina.
The movie is a classic. I'm a little mixed about the musical adaptation.
I was mixed about this film (some parts came off flat) but Renee absolutely killed it
the thing is the musical is really good, and in the movie they wanted to mix the song in pop it was really cringe.. and most of the character has no personnality.. and the thing about tiktok..stop.. I was really excpeting the movie because I love the musical but stop..
Is it good idk where I can watch it
@@chanay9683When you get five texts, and you get none back, so you wanna send a sixth one stop!
The fact that Tina Fey looks the same as she was 20 years ago in the original Mean Girls movie is pretty crazy. But hey, good for her 🤗
Rachel McAdams and Renee Rapp were amazing as Regina George in their different interpretation. Instead of just comparing which one is the better, i rather appreciate both talented actress in playing Regina at their own way 🙌
Finallly, someone who say this! ❤
The problem with adapting a movie like Mean Girls in today's culture is that it will never be as biting, truthful or relatable because everything has to be sanitized for the zoomer generation. The reason Mean Girls was such a cultural phenomenon was because it put the spotlight on actual teenage female bullying and they didn't hold back the jokes just because some people might be offended. Yes, girls did call each other sl*ts and wh*res back then and they probably still do it now. Yes, students of certain races would often sit with each other at lunch like the cool Asians and the nerdy Asians. This all happened at my high school and it felt so refreshing that a movie actually didn't gloss over these details. We will never get movies like this anymore because the culture of today no longer wants the truth represented. They just want an idealized version of it.
You nailed it on the head.
Yes agreed
Watching the evolution of Mean Girls from a book to a movie, then a musical, and now a movie musical is absolutely fascinating. It's incredible how Tina Fey transformed a non-fiction book into such a culturally significant film and stage production. Each adaptation brings something new to the table while keeping the core themes intact.
Why do we need a movie musical version of Mean Girls? Two words: Renee Rapp! This role is a wonderful showcase of her talents; she unapologetically commands the audience's attention and can sing her face off. A star in the making!
I wish that they'd marketed this movie as more of a musical in the initial trailers. People who don't particularly enjoy musicals won't appreciate being tricked into seeing one.
They did. Regina was singing in some of the trailers, there was a little bit of the "Sexy" dance break in a lot of them, and there is a music note in the movie title.
That’s exactly why they marketed it this way. Just like the new Wonka movie. Unfortunately, the masses hate musicals now.
Personally, I don’t! But I won’t be watching this
Yea West Side Story and In the Heights tanked after being promoted as musicals, so they tried to trick people with Mean Girls.
I don’t care much for musicals myself 🤷♀️
Yeah I don’t like musicals no the songs are cringy. Most of time for example 9:07 that hurt my ears if I ever watch this movie I’ll just skip all the songs which is most the movie but oh well.
They should have made a prequel instead with Mean Girl BFFs Janis and Regina before their falling out.
Making Janice a lesbian takes away from the final joke of the film - that’s she Lebanese and Regina used that to tell everyone that she’s a lesbian 😩
It's definitely more funny that way, but I do love queer Janis.
it adds way more depht to the character
they didn't make the joke because of the ethnicity of Auliʻi Cravalho, this janice is not lebanese
I don't know if I agree with the writer of the book. I mean in the end Tina Fey made a story out of it. So she deserves most of the credit.
That literally just now dawned on me. Then I saw your comment! Funny coincidence! Lol
Loved the new movie. Reneé absolutely carries the whole thing. Wonderful performances from many. I’m just reallllllly not sold on Gretchen and Karen at all, whatsoever. But I’d see the movie again, for sure! And my God, Reneé Rapp truly is a *star* !!!!
For some “OG” fans you guys sure don’t know there was a mean girls musical which-is based on the book/screen play where it came from
Renee and Rachel are the perfect Regina’s. All the way.
Renee suck
Reginas. Regina. Regina. Regina.
NO apostrophe to pluralize.
Janice is not a lesbian though. She's LEBANESE. Regina not understanding the difference and TELLING everyone she's a lesbian was THE joke from the original movie....
I don't think that was the joke. Regina was actually being lesbophobic and invented a rumour about Janice, AND then they added the joke at the end when she says she is Lebanese like a word play, but it's not that Regina misunderstood. Also Janice being a lesbian in this movie is a great choice! she is already queer coded.
I think your wrong@@terebertuccivoicemusic9821
''No. I just have a lot of feelings.'' LOL.
I know in going to get hate for this but the original was iconic that I didn't think this 2024 one needed to be made. I'm not a huge fan of musicals but the songs were catchy. I just felt like the movie was awkward and they left out some things and changed some iconic things from the original movie. I don't know. I just couldn't get into it. Especially the jingle bell rock was changed to rocking around the pole. And at the Halloween party Regina didn't mention to Aaron about doing African voodoo to make her out to be weird.
Cause it’s not an exact remake of the 2004 movie. They don’t talk about that stuff in the broadway musical, which the 2024 movie is an adaptation of, they took 90% from the musical including the script but still kept small elements of the 2004 one in it. Rocking around the pole was in the broadway show, so they used it in the new movie since it’s a movie adaptation of the musical
When you go to the school that the mean girls movie is based on…
So making Janice a lesbian was totally wrong and takes away from the whole schtick that Regina called her a lesbian because she stupidly misunderstood that Janice was Lebanese.
It's also the catalyst of why they aren't friends anymore.
Amazing video ms mojo of everything about the mean girl franchise, fantastic job.
Thanks for watching! :)
I loooove both movies
The stage musical still sounds better. I appreciate that choices were made to keep it under two hours because of how the sound was mixed. Got " video shoot by influencers" vibes and that was probably the point. I did like the character portrayals. Renée did excellent. Still watchable and a bit of fun. 3/5.
I have an Autism spectrum diagnosis, which I received when I was very young, back in the 90s. I did not have many issues with other kids, as the students at both of the schools I attended were all fairly tolerant.
I haven't seen the new movie yet but it might be okay. When comes to the original movie it's one my favorites for two reasons. First reason it's very entertaining, funny and quotable. And the second reason is because as a teenager during my junior year I experienced my own version of " girl world" when I didn't get along with another classmate. It wasn't like Regina George but she was my version of a mean girl.
Later on after me and the classmate learned to co-exist....I sorta turned into Cady. I treated another classmate badly like my bully did me and I'll always regret that. There's no excuse for what I did. " Girl World "is complicated and bullying, or mind games are things we hope to leave behind in highschool but sometimes people don't grow out of that mindset.
I have queen bees and wannabes book
Haven't seen the new version yet, but I'm sure I will be soon because I'm helping to raise two girls who are huge fans of the original movie.
I absolutely loved the movie musical 😍
Thick Regina wouldn't have been considered hot in the early 2000s. She would have been fat back then.
Since i haven't watched this movie, i don't have an specific teenage experience with it (by the time it premiered, i was just 5) but, it was a nice video nonetheless. Happy monday night, Emely. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colon¿mbia to you as well.
I really hate to compare movies or series but I highly appreciate the classic ones I mean the original the og ones but I really love it so win-win for me a
One thing this video forgot to mention was that it was adapted back into a novel around 2018.
Oh yeah! I have that novel!
I loved the 2004 & 2024 films… they both encapsulate life in high school at both times so well!
It has changed a lot!
yes girl boss great video
I like the OG "Mean Girls" and I liked the musical.
But to be completely honest I don't like what they did when they adapted the musical into a movie by leaving out many of the songs and supposedly "modernizing" the songs they did leave in.
Especially "I'd rather be me", "Apex Predator", and "Meet the Plastics". In my opinion the stage production did them better. j/s
From Regina George to Christina Palmer - Rachel mcadams
Love you rach
OK so I watched the movie musical and honestly it wasn’t bad. I just have a serious problem with comparing it to the original. However, I am extremely disappointed because I’ve seen the musical before like at the theater and prefer it way more than the movie I don’t know maybe it’s just me but like I was a little disappointed whoever I would go see it I don’t necessarily have any negative thoughts the only big thing for me is that it’s not the original.
Sugar, Spice, now everything sucks 🧫
Fetch the app has a pink shirt that says "We made Fetch happen".
The movie looks good
The cast in both the original and 2024 version are well in sync
One this though, even though I support Janice being a lesbian in the new adaptation, but the whole point was, she was Lebanese🤌🏻 Regina confused LEBANESE for LESBIAN 🤌🏻😂
i was so confused who 'fay' was until i realized you were talking about Tina Fey. Just say Tina Fey...
I seriously doubt it will ever be as popular as the original 2004 film version. 9 out of 10 times musicals always fail on the big screen. History has already proven this to be true. They're great on Broadway and Broadway only. For a reason.
I'd rather see the Beekeeper instead. That looks awesome.
Ok enjoy BeeKeeper even though it looks like any other spy movie, those also fail 9 out of 10 times unless it’s part of a huge franchise(which BeeKeeper isn’t). History has also proven THIS to be true ☺️ (Don’t shit on something and expect nothing back from the fans who like it)
@@Mr.Marvel4957 Awww. Did I hurt Ms. Marvel's widdle feelings? Good. 😁
@@Mr.Marvel4957 Aww. Did I hurt ya widdle feelings there princess? 😁
@@Mr.Marvel4957 In America it's called free speech. 😇
@@Mr.Marvel4957 You know what's really funny now? Both Mean Girls Musical & The Beekeeper came out the same day and over this weekend The Beekeeper is already making more in ticket sales. By $10 million more internationally. Isn't that hilarious? 😂
I'm sure the didn't market Mean girls as a movie musical because many people don't like musicals.
I like mean girls 2004 the most
A guy I graduated High School with is in the new Mean Girls. John El-Jor Midlothian Class 2018. Good Guy
The Evolution of Mean Girls when no body asked for this NO GOOD REMAKE. If the new generation wants to watch Mean Girls, they can watch the original and BETTER Mean Girls from 20 years ago
You forgot the Walmart ad
The Walmart ad was more entertaining than the movie was to be honest. LOL
Do you just make shit up, Ms Mojo?
No, Tina Fey did not get "fetch" from talking to teens. I just watched the Mean Girls reunion and Tina Fey herself said she made up the word as a play off "fetching". She didn't want to use current teen slang because it would be dated as the movie got older.
Who fact checks your videos? Or are you just making stuff up on purpose?
cooool
Now I know not to waste my time on the new movie.
Ok
I like the former better than the latter tbh….:
Come see my stories behind the movie, how those funny moments happened in my growing up in rock n roll series.
It evolved... backwards. The 2024 version left a bitter taste
I love the new movie
It was awesome. Refence to pop culture of today like Instagram tik tok snapchate
Ha ha lol ❤😂😂😅😊😊!
Also people are so upset the cast isn’t how they looked in the movie it’s not that serious
Just look how the beauty standards have changed 💀 people high-key looked better in the past-
No one was asking for a Mean Girls remake, so why make it? Yes, I get it was based on a Broadway musical, but it was pointless to adapt a musical based on a movie into a movie again.
no one asked for the book movie, or the play so why make any of them.
Lots of theater kids wanted this.
That's the biggest problem 😂 theatre kids are the worst @@All-ze9cl
I just watched 20 minutes, then I change of room for Godzilla 🎉
Ummm I’ve seen the new mean girls and it is indeed perfect but I’m just a stannn
nothing more pointless than a Mean Girls movie that's afraid of being too mean
I won’t be watching it just cos it’s more of a musical and it’s probably just full of teens on their phones taking selfies and instagramming or whatever they do. I’m so glad I was a teenager in the late 90s, we were defo the last great generation. We used to socialize face to face and didn’t spend hours on social media cos didn’t exist and it was better that way! X
It's soo pointless, the new one isn't gonna be half as ic
Ionic as the original movie
Its just marketed towards the Gen Z while the original was easily accessible to a more wider audience
None of the new cast seem to have star power or talent that Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried or LINDSAY LOHAN have they'll never have the career longevity that these queens have had
Im happy Janice in Mean Girls 2024 is lesbian because I was soo confuse when she ended up with a guy in the original when I first watched it😭 I will miss the Lebanese joke though
I thought that the Lebanese joke was that she's not actually lesbian.
The 2024 version is too woke, The OG will always be better.
True
Am not getting to sugarcoat it i think the there's two camps the people who ❤️ Musical & the others who dislike it.
I hate Musicals.
I don’t think they needed to make Janice a lesbian. I really liked how she was before and I liked that she seemed different. I related to her a lot in the 2004 mean girls.
Stop trying to make another Mean Girls happen. It’s not going to happen.
I didn’t like the reboot
There was no need to fuck up the original one....anyways.
The new ones was horrible
The new movie was absolute shit! I knew it was a musical but the songs were horrible! Mean Girls was a cult classic that should’ve been left alone! When it came out almost 20 years ago it was original and funny and packed with one liners that are relevant today. The remake was a Gen-Z mess 🤮
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Let’s be honest: Mean Girls 2024 is absolute trash. They removed half of the original, and hilarious, jokes because they were no longer politically correct and……GASP…….God forbid someone gets offended. They also wanted to make sure the audience knew the nuclear family was a no-no, so they made half of the main characters living with single moms.
Stop trying to make Mean Girls 2024 happen. It’s not going to happen.
Regina George CAN’T BE FAT as Renee
Nothing compares to the original one. This musical one sucked. The outfits are horrible. The singing and acting are bad I don’t think there’s one good thing about it. Do yourself a favor don’t go watch it.
