What a cool piece. I love that there's an element of the painting brought to life with an actual step. Now that I think of it, I'm surprised that doesn't happen more often!
I remember hearing about this prolific family and being impressed by them, so it shouldn't surprise me that one of them had such a unique approach to this piece as well.
🤯 OMG. I thought it was only the first step! The illusion really got me! lol. How fun. I would lose my mind in Peale's museum. They must've been fascinating people.
The couple walking together at the end was a sweet and unexpected touch. There's just so much to enjoy about this one, it brightened my day.

After the 3rd step, the stairs don't seem to make any sense to me. They look as if they pitch downward.
Good eye. The perspective is skewed, all right.
