    I love your clear, concise, detailed instruction. Your videos and techniques are the ones I internalize and practice……I also love your knowledge of, and delivery to, adult learners…..you get to the point right away. Fantastic.

    Good timing! I hit my first punch volley yesterday, a shot a chap I play with has been trying to show me and convert me from full tennis strokes to shots more like this, as you have been attempting to do in your videos. Only took me three months of playing to hit one. There’s a lot of years of tennis training to defeat but I’m trying.

      I'd like to caution you here. You don't necessarily have to get rid of some of the tennis stuff. If a tennis-style volley is good for you, then I would keep it. I think the thing that you need to assimilate is the shorter swing. That's the key. Try that and check back and let me know how it goes!

    • @PickleballKitchen

      Just so I'm clear, people are saying that you should or should not take a full swing?

    • @jamescrane7034
      @jamescrane7034 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PickleballKitchen they are telling me I should take a full swing, that I am not using my whole body and I am using this advice with the serve, but I have only been playing a year. I started out with beginners then moved to intermediate play, and occasionally play with the advanced group. It is when I play with the advanced group that I get hung out to dry. The reason I started using the punch swing was because I am more accurate that way. I try to give a flick with my hip instead of the full arm swing.
      I especially like you suggestion on the Kun Fu move. I can not wait to go out and practice that. I get crowded with the better players who hit it right at me. Thanks much

    • @PickleballKitchen
      @PickleballKitchen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamescrane7034 You're welcome. Do what is comfortable for you. Some people can swing fast enough to where they can take a full swing, but most people cannot. Also try to think about what is "good enough". If those short little punch volleys are winning points, then that's enough to get through. But if they start to return them, then you may need to put more power on it.

    This is okay for the beginners. I disagree with many things...ex. The stance alone...cant be standing up straight on kitchenline in the game...,and the movement to avoid hitting on the face. Fundamentals of both tennis and table tennis combined that works properly to me, and more significant in my playing great pickleball. Thanks for the pointers...please continue. We'll keep on promoting pickleball.

    • @PickleballKitchen
      @PickleballKitchen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome, I will certainly be continuing. I don't think I'm standing up straight here. I typically don't bend my knees as much in these videos just because I don't have the best knees. But yeah, in real games I'm a bit lower than what you see.

    May I ask you a question? What kind of grip do you have when you are doing a high five? Is it continental? It almost looks like it's a little semi-western.

    I finally realized what the shot is called since I am getting beat with it repeatedly on any ball I hit to my opponent that’s even slightly too high. It’s getting tiring, time to add this to my arsenal so I can return the favor.

    Nice video for a "need to know" shot. Technic looks good and easy to follow. Thanks for the many shots on video. Others just don't put enough repetitive shots to get a good look at things. Next up.... Roll Volly?

  • @infomercialguy
    @infomercialguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Question. Do you have a western grip at net? It looks like you do. Does that make it hard for backhand volley or going to a dink?

  • @jlook6070

    If you always keep your paddle down in ready position, can you retreat to punch volley or punch dink it back?

    • @PickleballKitchen

    Hey Pickeball Kitchen. I play against a lot of physically strong opponents who can hit very hard volleys that are hard to handle. I have tried blocking and slowing the game to attempt to reset the point, but in the end, a vast majority of points ended with them slamming a volley at my body or where I couldn't return it well. Is there a way to effectively return their hard shot to help win the point or put them on the defensive...? If it goes to a long volley session, I always end up losing or having to slow it down (and still losing), so would it be possible to make a strong first counter that could improve my chances of winning the point...?

    • @PickleballKitchen
      @PickleballKitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, it's all about not picking the volley fight to begin with. I know that can be difficult though.
      But otherwise, it's all about misdirection. You have to be able to misdirect the volley so that it doesn't land in their strike zone. I responded to your other comment, so let me know about that as well.

    Seems a little bit wristy.

    • @PickleballKitchen
      @PickleballKitchen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you follow through the wrist will naturally collapse inward. But the important part is the hand punching through.

    I am right handed. If I am attempting a forehand punch volley and I want to add more power to the shot, get more precise direction, or get a longer follow thru, which, if any, technique helps: consciously adding weight to my left foot to help my follow thru, naturally adding weight to left foot by reaching forward and then to the left with an extended left arm, rotating paddle to the right and rotating left shoulder the same distance while still keeping paddle in front of my body or some other technique?

  • @dalevoigt8612

    Seems to me all your punch volley shots were cross court. Being that the shot is a reaction beating shot, the close person should receive the shot because they have less time to react to it.
