    Delightful. I didn't find him arrogant at all. When the interviewer said that a machine could never care about something the way he cared about his grandchildren, he said "Why not?" He didn't say that he knew how it could be done, just that, since he could do it, that showed that it could be done. The interviewer made the mistake of going from his inability to imagine something to the conclusion that the thing he cannot imagine does not or cannot exist.

    “Man is a machine. All his deeds, actions, words, thoughts, feelings, convictions, opinions, and habits are the results of external influences, external impressions. Out of himself a man cannot produce a single thought, a single action. Everything he says, does, thinks, feels - all this happens." Gurdjieff

      If a man is a machine, how come one man thinks he is a machine, and another man thinks he is not a machine?
      A machine is something built by someone. You must gain mastery of the meaning of words, if you want to understand what is really going on.

    Body ( the bot ) is the machine which is managed by the brain ( the program, the software ) and consciousness , the ‘I AM’, the driver, the self aware, a symbiotic relationship for a limited time. So who is the ‘I Am’ and where from ?

    • @Hogballs
      @Hogballs หลายเดือนก่อน

      “I AM” = God
      There is only one of us, playing hide and seek with itself.

      play World of Warcraft. you "enter" a "world" where you interact with other players, yet as much as you studied the physics of the game "from the inside" you won't find find the I AM, the players who have "avatars" "inside" "world of warcraft".
      What you call the "real world" is but a construct of the I AM.
      Think of perception. Nobody has proven yet that perception happens in the brain. The brain is merely a render, a representation, part of the avatar, of the "mechanics of the game".
      The only reality is the I AM, the Gods who congregate in this arena we call "the universe".

    Maybe you believe are just a machine, but I believe the jury is still out consciousness not existing and us being mere machines. The universe is still far too unknown to believe we have everything figured out. Quantum physics alone has the potential to up-end our understanding of cause and effect. That to say nothing of synergistic effects of causal systems creating uncertain outcomes. Arrogant may be the man who believes he controls his destiny, but equally so is man who thinks he figured out that he doesn't.

Whether or not another organism/thing/entity will ever have (or has had) the same emotions as humans remains to be seen, but they're just biochemical and biophysical processes shaped by evolutionary pressures and following the laws of physics. There's no reason AI can't evolve analogous characteristics for _in silica_ processes.

      There's no right or wrong, no good or bad, no journey, no progress, no destination and nobody there capable of doing anything for except in thought. You can not be lost when you don't have a destination and you can not do wrong when you don't know what is right. Going astray doesn't exist and no thought can be freeing. There's no inside or outside without thought. Thought is the one that differentiates between an outside and an inside. Between a body and a mind. It is thought that creates the "me" and the "my surroundings". That's the knowledge there operating. There's no way you can tell yourself anything about anything and have these thoughts about things without this knowledge. And where did all this knowledge come from?! It surely didn't get created inside you. It didn't find birth in you. You don't own these thoughts. This knowledge doesn't belong to you. None of these are what you can call your own original thoughts. That's why I say, the you that you think you are is also knowledge that came from outside. This "I" you think you are and have to be, is knowledge from outside. Your whole identity is based on and created by knowledge from outside. Hell you didn't even pick your own name. It is given. Borrowed and stolen from somewhere. And this goes also for all the emotions and feelings you register. The translation of sensations into good and bad is all knowledge that came from outside. So without this knowledge you have no way of feeling good or bad about things and there's no way for you to tell if something is good or bad. So feeling good or bad about something doesn't tell you anything. It doesn't make anything better or worse and can't be used as a guide for anything. All knowledge came from outside, from others and is thought. So all the thoughts you think you have, including the "you", the "I" the "me" are actually just knowledge from outside, from others.
