I've owned a couple of Epi 335s in the past and never bonded with one. This video got me interested in the Jim James model and I came across one in Guitar Center in Boston. Played it for 10 minutes and I was a goner. Neck is the best on any Epi I've ever played, and the tone is great - terrific character from neck and bridge pickups. Bought it. Loving it. Thanks for the push!
I’ve always been an SG guy but this is a beautiful guitar and it sounds great. Dude I gotta say your playing is disgustingly good. Great vid, as usual.
Im Soo excited they released this as an epiphone, I always loved these 70s walnut/tobacco 335s and the Owl is my spirit animal, also MMJ rules. I couldn't justify the pricetag on the Gibson so this is absolutley perfect. Im about to list a couple Gretche's now to fund this.
The Epiphone unplugged is loud and resonant. Love the slim neck..they're my favorites . I'm sold I want one. Great video. Awesome playing and tone from the Gibson pickups though I will swap them out for a set of Duncan 59s. My preference is the Alnico V pickups
The pickups in my IBG 335 LE are Alnico 5 magnets and wound to Gibson '57 PAF specs. I have seen a teardown...the electronics are also high quality. I have a 1978 Gibson ES 175 with the standard humbucker in the neck and an SD PAF from '80 in the bridge. The Epiphone pickups sound just as nice with a different tone palette and the neck carve is different as well, but feels fantastic. It has wider shoulders but is still fast. Mine came out of the box from GC needing a good bit of fret polishing, buffing and oiling and complete setup which i did myself. After that, the guitar is nearly perfect...an absolute joy to play and a broad array of tones beautifully articulated and rings like a bell.
I’d love to understand why some signature models are at prices we would expect while others seem to be double with as much or less to offer. This model is a great value for sure and is still at old prices for signature models. I really respect that. I’m hoping to see a Dave Grohl 335 from Epiphone. There were a couple of short Gibson runs a while back. He should have a model permanently available. I’d like to hope he’d influence Epiphone )and even Gibson) to keep the quality/value high and prices low. He loves his fans and I’m hoping he can make this happen and pay it forward by helping more people enjoy a DG 335. Getting back to the guitar at hand, this is a really nice option. I personally prefer the Trini diamonds to the f holes, but as a 70’s replica, Jim James’ guitar nails that vibe. I had no idea he would be releasing this model, so thanks for letting us know!
A delicious walnut finish Epiphone 355! This would make a tasty treat in the stomach ... er, i mean the collection of any hungry guitarist! Great video and overview!
Epiphone’s quality lately is amazing. They really had to up their game with companies like Sire taking market away. Got. Inspired by Gibson ES335 Epi so I’m good but this one is a looker!
I really like these. But I got my eye on a 59 es 335 from epiphone in cherry! That headstock and ebony board w custom buckets just grabs my attention like no other
I love the look I have a Gibson ES 330 with Humbuckers that looks identical...if it had a bigger neck I'd buy it...that said I will hold out for a Trini Lopez/DG model that I think is coming maybe with a Bigsby ? Great demo and review guys !!!
Amazing guitar! I managed to get one new for £660, such a good deal! The neck is fantastic on these and the colour looks even better in person. Great review!
I get myself a Epi ES Traditional a few years back love it except sometimes I wish it had the slim neck might have to try this one out plus the walnut is so dark it looks black.
I have the IG ES335 in sunburst with the 58 chunky neck and the Worn Ebony Casino which I added a bone nut to and I have to say, they are both keepers and great guitars ...the 335 can cover so much sonic ground. I love the P90s on the Casino as well. The Casino has that D shaped skinny neck and I got used to it after a short while. I like that Walnut finish a lot....had a friend with a Walnut Gibson 335 that was like that a bit.Epiphone has really produced some quality players instruments over the last few years.
Cool looking guitar and specs, although that is a painfully thin neck for a 335 type. Honestly not loving the sound of those Epi pups, little bit muddy sounding…I think prospective buyers would happily pay the difference if Epi put some Gibson pups in it. I have a recent Epi Bona ES-335 and it’s really a terrific guitar, it certainly hold its own with my Gibson Traditional ES-335. Thanks for the review ✌️
I Googled it for you: Rosewood fretboards are more porous so feel rougher compared to Indian laurel fretboards. Visually, rosewood is darker and has more streaks compared to Indian laurel which has a more even appearance. Rosewood is naturally more oily so less prone to warping and requires less maintenance. Indian Laurel is a perfectly good fretboard material tonally and can easily out-perform more popular woods, despite being a cheaper option.
@@joeygentile7829 Thanks i didn't know the benefits of using Indian Laurel fretboards because I don't see many guitars that use Indian Laurel fretboards and what the benefits are using it
The "benefit" was that it was similar to rosewood during the period CITES banned the trade in rosewood. But it was lifted a few years ago. They mostly stick to it now partly for cost cutting reasons, and partly artificial feature segmentation - guitar players are mostly traditionalists so whatever was used 30 years ago is seen as "premium", even if it's not actually any better by current standards.
@@PaulCooksStuff Yes I know it cost cheaper than Rosewood but also doesn't need to be oiled and moisturized because Indian laurel is a better type of wood that keeps the neck more stable from temperatures cold an hot?
Appreciate that, in my shtick up front I say "I'm John and that's Zach behind the camera." Does being the talent make me automatically talented? Lol thanks for watching
Personally I really liked the Jim James 335, but they're similar enough I'd say shop on which aesthetic you prefer. In both cases they have Alnico Classic Pro pickups that I really like. I don't think anything looks better than a dark stained wood. That thing is beautiful.

Awesome review and spec details! Is this the thinnest ever neck on a 335?

Slap a Bigsby B7 on it too. That would be retro cool.
You guys are truly killin' it! I'm not a fan of the artist but that is one tasty sig model!
Notifications worked this time. I'm way early seeing this video!
Sweet guitar!! I'm psyched you reviewed this. I missed the Gibson version but this is just as nice especially for only $899.
Great looking guitar and helpful video. Liked and subscribed! Didn’t care for the pickups but that is fixable with a bit of agony.
I’ve been asking for a walnut 335 from epiphone for like 10 years… about time!
They should have added a Volute to the back of the headstock.
Hope y’all do the 339
The sound reminds me of Eric Clapton tune love of my life I think ?.
Good value for money with the case thrown in as well. Tempted.
Probably this one. It's in my local store right now. Gonna head in there and check it out!
Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning guitar and playing. Cheers
Sounds a little warmer than my Indonesian made 335 copy, but is more than three times the price, although it includes a case.
Are there other 335’s available with slim necks?
Wow, this is a real beauty! And it has a beautiful sound too😍.
I wish I could afford all the gear you recommend...😳
355 sounds so good I think Epiphone nailed it .

What hydrate solution do you use for the fretboard?
I think he said D'Addario Hydrate?
Yes, that's the one! Thanks for watching.
Between this one and the Noel Gallagher Riviera (which is basically also a 335) which one will you pick?

Such a beauty. Would love to have it at my fingers!

Yup, the Sheraton is indeed an awesome guitar.
we have a full sheraton demo coming soon! stay tuned 🤘 Zach

Absolutely killer 🖤😎✌️⚡⚡⚡
I've owned Epiphones. They were pretty good guitars, but all they really did for me is make me want the real Gibson. So, now I just buy the Gibson.
