I had to think about "Was Unix inevitable?" 13:12 - quite a bit. That's kind of terrifying. It's interesting to think of what fortunes even Microsoft/Azure is making with Linux today.

Is Linux a PC version of - Unix?

great question. Unix was originally developed on Mini computers and mainframes, but it was ported over to Personal Computers as well. Linux has its own interesting history but is an evolution out of Unix. We’d recommend reading about the history of Minix and Linux, both have important and fascinating stories.

Linux is a kernel that was originally built as a hobby project, to run GNU software on the hardware that Linus Torvalds had available to him at the time. The GNU suite of applications was created by Richard Stallman with the intent to be a drop-in replacement for a UNIX environment, but whilst adhering to Stallman's copyleft principles, which he codified in the GPL. Stallman was motivated to create the GNU suite because he was frustrated by the inability to easily modify the existing UNIX suite of tools to suit specific needs he had, because the authors wouldn't provide him with the source code.
All that is to say, Linux + the GNU suite of tools (what is meant by "GNU/Linux", or what most people just call "Linux" or a "Linux distribution"), was intended to be a direct replacement for UNIX; a FOSS/FLOSS alternative that would run on home computers rather than mainframes. Over the years, the range of supported hardware and environments naturally grew exponentially.

@JivanPal Essentially you said what I suspected - that Linux IS a form of Unix, because the command structure is basically the same!
