since I was unable to upload that one without it getting blocked worldwide. I switched out a few songs that were causing issues but I chose the new ones very carefully (no i will not stop using thedas love theme either) anyway, I think these songs represent astarion's feelings towards you and your romance together. I just realized something. From the beginning I thought that, as Tav is Astarion's first "true feeding", it made this moment and the act of letting him drink your blood so intimate, it's such a vulnerable moment as he asks Tav and Tav let's him, for him even more than for Tav. But something I didn't think about before is that, in 200 years he had to lure and seduce so many people - He might not have seen them as food but still it was a special and cruel kind of torture to always get so close to drinking "real" blood but never being able to. I imagine he wanted to drink their blood so badly.. I think their intimacy grows ALOT from their feeding sessions. it's the first time he can do what his vampirism commands him to and somehow it doesn't escalate into a blood fest but become a kind of safe space, a ritual of balance between sating your hunger and keeping it under control. It teaches him to savour her blood in a non harmful way, stay the master over his vampire nature. And I'd like to think it teaches Tav to let go and give in for the sake of someone else. They can become entwined on so many levels, it's such an amazing story.

To add to this. Sex has become meaningless. A tool or chore, something he isn't sure he ever wants to do again, but he uses it to secure safety, by trying to win you over. You letting him feed on you is a trust he has never received. An intimacy sex has lost, for him.
I feel like letting him drink from you is very intimate, way more intimate than sex, and it's part of why he grows to trust you so much, and feel so close to you. Sex means nothing now, but to have someone trust him so completely without being naive about it, helping him control the urge and feel in control, I think he values that greatly.

From his origin campaign one can learn that Cazador prohibited his spawns from drinking from thinking creatures. I'm not sure why it mattered apart from him experiencing sadistic pleasure from the fact that only he was allowed luxury of drinking humanoid blood and they were feeding like beasts.
Honestly, I haven't simped for someone this hard for... Ever. I've never been the type to fall for vampires romances, didn't specially like twilight, or vampire diaries. Even growing up, I've always though it was a girlish thing to like, I always prefered heroic adventures, not 'Beautiful Vampire lord makes you his forever consort because you are not like the other girls, drama ensues'. But Astarion ? It's something about, everything he is as a character, his manerism, the voice acting (goddamn Neil nailed him), the emotions going through his face (thank gods to the animators). Sure he's a vampire, but that doesn't define him as someone, only makes sense towards 'what' happened to him during his 200 years of slavery, and how much he loves freedom, the sun, craves for blood, power, and safety. He plays with you, acting like this suave noble man, cocky, sassy, definitly aware he is gorgeous (or at least he beleives he is, since he cannot see himself in a mirror, another detail about him being complex), and defines himself as a predator, that's how he acts with you, raises all the red flags. He loves chaos, blood, murder, displays himself as a goddamn eye candy, but then you spot his scars, about how he talks about Cazador, about how freedom feels like, and how he loves the sun. It does feel strange, some things he says at first, like 'controling the tadpole' instead of 'removing it' (simply because he never wanted to loose the sun once he got it), how very scared he sounds like at times, hidden beneath his superiority. He broke me when he talked about Cazador's tortures (the scars, what he was given to not starve, how Cazador liked him screaming best, how he litterally had to prostitute himself to lure people in, and one year buried underground...), about how he felt like he's always been a 'mean to an end', that every little intimacy he had felt tainted. To see him just aknowledge himself, his desires, learn how to say no, that's been precious. His relationship is the only one in which the closer you get, the less physical you are towards him, just showing him you respect his boundaries. That's the thing I prefer I think, your relationship grows from unhealthy coping mechanisms to healthy boudaries and acceptance. To watch him smile and drop the act ? He's just wholesome, but he still keeps the sass to spice things anyway. I don't like him because the player 'fixes him', I don't think we really fix him, I like him because it's his revenge on 'life' we get to see, because we are there hand in hand as he grows through his past. Yeah, I fell in love with a fictional character again, and I can't get enough of him. And Dark Urge has the best romance with him ;)
Haha, you're right about so much. I made a whole blog post on astarion and his character that uses a lot of points you just laid out and I agree, thanks for the comment 🩷
Astarion has a lot in common with Ash Lynx from Banana Fish, and I love both of them. Both brutally used and broken... And both of them needed secure love to heal and stop living in fear, emotionally secure.
He got that sass, that confident, crave for power, hype for battle, ruthless decisions. But all he fight for is freedom, to be with people he cares for. He has a great plot for anti-heroes or as a villain. Larian not only they give us the fan services vampires hot man, but did a great work building his personality and background too. I'm also didn't expect to fall for this man in my first playthrough but, oh boi, he sure got me in the mid game.
Ironically you sound like "not like other girls" with "I've always liked heroic adventures, I've never been the type to fall for vampire romances it's a girlish thing to like". And devaluing vampire horror romance into "Vampire lord makes you his forever consort, drama ensures", connecting it to girliness and making it sound like it's some unworthy, dramatic cringy thing.
Twilight and TVD are not the typical vampire romances, they're very modernized with not great writing and not at all girlish, feminine female characters.
@@Yoirea You know that I did have the same goddamn parrallel too ? Both are twinks, they saw their bodies sold and grew to learn the fact they are to be used, and they use themselves to get what they want, or at least secure that they live another day. And they are always objectified, but Astarion gets a way out.
Even though I liked Banana Fish at first, Ash was just a superhuman as the manga went on, to me, he didn't need to be this intelligent. It kinda ruined the strengh of his character : charismatic, as to put up a strong facade to rally the gangs, he didn't need to be 'the genius of the century', and it definitly lack the real engagement about the gay relationship. It's always been subtexted and very much implied, but they still could draw back and say 'but they are just FRIENDS'. Make them kiss.
Baldur's Gate doesn't have those defaults, Astarion does not show suddendly something that wasn't told at the beginning : every single thing happening further the quest has been inted during the first Act : vampirism and his blood thirst, crave for power, crave for security, the sassy mask hiding the abuse, his relationship with the Gurs. Nothing had been left behind, and every single aspect of his character goes under character development. Honestly, the relationship with him is just heartbreaking, and can't seem to get enough

You really should play the game it is from. Final Fantasy 14 Online: Heavensward expansion. In the free trial you get to play heavensward for free with no limit on playtime. It's one of the best stories I've ever experienced

I made the awful mistake of listening to this while folding my laundry, and I'm too ashamed to admit how many times I had to just stop and listen to his perfect voice and hold myself back from crying. So my laundry definitely took way longer to finish because of this haha. I finished the game yesterday, and I miss him already. I've never been so obsessed over a character before.

Absolutely lovely playlist and great insertion of the lines. I'm so glad someone is making classical ish playlists and not just using the same 4 songs everyone does. As an avid BG3 obsessor and also an avid DA obsessor, I'm so happy to see the Thedas love theme here ;-;
Hehe thank you so much, dragon age is my favourite game of all time and now bg3 is a very close runner up. Given those games are quite similar when it comes to the party and companion system, it was only fitting and DA has great music haha.

The way you put this together is just stunning! The music you chose, the voice lines, it made it all so perfect and added layers of emotion that really accentuated the growth that your character has with him.
I'm currently playing in a solo campaign with his character, picking up from the 'good' ending and heading to the underdark. My character is a Seladrine drow who had been captured from the overworld and sold as a slave. It was a lot of "Do what you must to survive," and she wanted nothing more than to live and find a way back out of the Underdark, ultimately making a pact with a being who promised to give her the powers to leave. She had done many things in the name of freedom, so there was a lot of understanding between her and Astarion, even understanding that he had seduced her to make an alliance, she wasn't mad. As they continued their journey, they grew so much together, learning a lot about eachother and themselves, and now, in my solo play, Astarion is encouraging her to break free of her own chains, helping her the way she helped him.
As I play, I listen to this playlist, I get inspired for the RP that happens in my campaign and it hits just right! Maybe one day I'll publish it as Fan fiction, but for now, I'm enjoying the journey, and appreciating the playlist that accompanies it! So thank you!

This playlist is perfect. I thought it would be pop songs or something like so many other playlists, but the fact that it's all osts (including some I already know and love) is perfection. Great music choice, great voice line choice and placement. I will be coming back to this one.

i almost screamed when i heard fenris theme because as a dragon age nerd astarion and fenris are so simular but astarions has more character for obvious reasons and me a fenris simp started the game because astarion reminded me of fenris and now i simp for both for completely different reasons and it brought so much joy to hear a dragon age song especially one so fitting for astarion

Not the Dragon Age ost kicking me from my guts... I was not ready for this NOT AT ALL! Then again, who was ready for Astarion romance? I've had my sad boy share when I romanced Fenris and Solas from DA but this.... this was whole another experience. My kudos to you and to Larian!!! How I'd died, so beautifully....
Exactly the same! I romance Fenris and Solas too, Astarion is exactly what I needed even if I was crying when he finally got his revenge and afterwards. He came so far, so proud of him! Larian nailed Astarion's romance, he's up there with DA romances for me now, I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Thank you for your kind words too, hehe.
