you are wrong on some points here. Dalit singers in Punjab have been popular in those times. Other singer who was named in the movie as Manak Sahab, Kuldeep Manak is one the most popular singer and he was lower caste too. And there are many such examples in Punjab Diljit is known as the energetic, colorful artist in Punjab. He has that side to him especially in his Punjabi movies so I don't think anyone from Punjab was skeptical of choice of Diljit for Chamkila (may be some Punjabis who are not living in Punjab are and that's where you heard that he may not be good choice) Regarding female objectification in Chamkila's songs. He was always singing duets, where there was female gaze regarding the situations portrayed in those songs. So it was never 'only' female objectification. I think it is rather society's patriarchal nature which fails to identify the agency of women in those same songs.

Just finisned watching this an hour ago.. Absolutely loved it.. I had always been a superfan of Diljit but but... Parineeti Chopra is mind blowing. Her body language, moves..absolutely match with those of real Amarjot .
Chamkila is still popular in Punjabis as he was in 80's.. He was down to earth. Performed with sri devi abroad i remember and people were crazy about him. Once more was sounding in hall and show organizers sent sri devi to dance on his song seeing people crazy about Chamkila.

I think the only person with caste hatred is you. You said Amarjot was a Jat Sikh girl when she wasn't, this was because you wanted to show that a Jat killed Chamkila over caste-based reasons. Also, Punjab has had many low-caste singers that grew insanely popular, take Manak for example. Caste may have played a role in Chamkila's assassination, but lyrics or simple singer rivalry was the more likely reason.
from Panjab...earlier i thought Parineeti's accent and singing might be a low for the film but i was totally proved wrong, she did fantastic job, the only thing that i didn't like was the duration, i know it's already 2.5 hrs but life of Chamkila could get an extra half an hour, felt a but rushed. but overall, great movie and comeback for lord Imtiaz

Amar Singh Chamkila is nothing short of a masterpiece. Imtiaz Ali's return to form as a director is outstanding and he cleverly weaves in filmmaking techniques ensuring for a gripping screenplay. AR Rahman's music is beyond words and has a lasting impact on you. DIljit Dosanjh, as the main man, is fabulous in both his acting and singing. Parineeti Chopra complements him very well and her pronunciation is surprisingly top-notch. The cinematography, editing and writing come together very well to capture the rawness of rural Punjab. A must watch for all; perhaps Bollywood's best biopic.
This movie is so beautifully presented. But I would like you to see Punjabi movie JODI, done by Diljit only. It was the same movie, but didn't get the same appreciation.

Honestly he did sang 18+ heavy women objectifying songs and while growing up our elders never played him or never let us listen to Chamkila! He did do some good songs but was not enough! His contenders like Kuldeep Manak Mohamad Sadique etc who were singing women objectifying songs too but did not go extreme and they are legends of Panjab!

Honey singh ke volume 3 to aurato ke saath violence bhi promote karta hain. chamkila also sang about caste and class issues, about lovers. Predominantly Jutt led Khalistani movement hated him (meaning he was a threat to khalistani movement which is good). Don't justify his murder. Punjabi khalistanis always find reasons to spread propaganda by being imposter of oh !! He wasn't great. He is great and one of the best singers of Punjab.

If Imtiaz Ali was so confident about this movie, why did he not release it in theatres? How can someone truly judge a movie's success on Netflix? I think he is being hyped by his fanboys who want to project his movies as a "work of art", "read between the lines" etc, whereas his stories are actually quite mundane( yes Jab We Met, Tamasha were not something out of the box).
arre...that's cause it makes better business sense. Personally speaking, I would have loved to see it in a theatre. Chamkila however, is a well researched biopic, and while extremely engaging, is not really the kind of entertainer that will pull in all kinds of audiences to theatres in massive numbers. With Netflix as the sole distributor, the producers receive guaranteed big profits, and the film doesn't have to go through chains of theatrical distributors and enjoy lesser dividends. It's not about confidence or the lack of it, it's about the money. Secondly, there are view counts that determine a movie's success on Netflix. It's another thing streaming sites generally don't share the data publicly, but proof exists and is very much quantifiable.

Amar Singh Chamkila is a one of a kind Artist from Punjab. People still listen to his songs, Punjabi artists still try to copy his songs, style, lyrics and everything. We should be thankful to artists like Amar Singh Chamkila for the big Punjabi music industry that we know today.
What i have realized after watching the movie is that ART is such a beautiful thing that it brings together poeple who are coming from diffrent strata of society ,everyone loved chamkila paji so much , that when he was performing he was not kshatriya,vaishya or shudra he was simply our beloved chamkila from punjab.
Parineeti chopra ke karan diljeet ka kirdar or bhi ubhar ke aaya hai. Wo bahut hi behatareen kalakaar hain. Unhe ek acha director jaise Imtiaz Sir hain bahut bakhoobi se pesh karte hain. Diljit Dosanjh chamkila bann ke ubhar hi Parineeti chopra ke Amarjot ke role ki wajah se paye hain. Direction movie ka oscar level ka hai. Or punjab ka itna bakhubhi parichay shayd hi kisi movie mn kia gya h.
Personally I think the film was well made but some parts of the film were uneven. Like during the initial minutes they introduced Chamkila with a really innovative song I thought that this would continue later in the film but it wasn't. Chamikla's first marriage was badly brushed out with comedy. An aware viewer gets what they are trying to imply with the "Nankana Sahib" song but it just remains an unwoven open thread in the film. That song including women was not needed at all. Mid one hour of the film is out and out hero worshipping and nothing else. Direction, acting and some themes which were flashed out nicely were the positives of the film.
Being a hindu i have never watched a Punjabi film.. but this movie❤❤❤❤ all thanks to Imtiyaz Ali, and the cast waaah!!!! Diljeet-Parineeti were bang on🎉🎉🎉🎉
Film is simpli amazing,yes Chankila used to sing vulgar songs n all.. but people loved that people demanded that.I was just 4 when he died but my dad witnessed the craze of Chamkila,he attended his Akhadas.People were crazy for him.Happy that Imtiaz Ali came up with this movie, brilliant movie.(From Punjab)

Big fan of Imtiaz Ali since Socha na Tha till Highway. Not a big fan of Tamasha which I think is highly overrated. Jab Harry Met Sally was unbearable to say the least. Love Aajkal 2 would have been a decent watch but the lead actors didn't have the depth to carry the movie on their shoulders as they don't have the acting talent to pull it off. I am happy Imtiaz Ali has a made a good comeback with Chamkila. Will watch it tonight

Actually in our punjabi ladies sangeet and weddings, women sing these songs, they’re all sexual and our meant to say something. The movie is another masterpiece, well edited and captured. Thank god for imtiaz and mohit chauhan comeback. Diljit stole the show!😊 Only miscast was scene of sahiba bali. She was cringe and did poorly.

Chamkila is the one of the best punjabi singer. I only play Chamkila on my car and tractor. On tractor in the fields it's fantastic unimaginable. 90% of punjabi population loves Chamkila. It's only jealousy which only cause of death. All singers that time free in their houses like SIDHU moosewala push behind today's singer. People put their wedding date when Chamkila give them date for programs. We love Chamkila forever.....

I think the only person with caste hatred is you. You said Amarjot was a Jat Sikh girl when she wasn't, this was because you wanted to show that a Jat killed Chamkila over caste-based reasons. Also, Punjab has had many low-caste singers that grew insanely popular, take Manak for example. Caste may have played a role in Chamkila's assassination, but lyrics or simple singer rivalry was the more likely reason.

AR Rahman's music is beyond words and has a lasting impact on you. DIljit Dosanjh, as the main man, is fabulous in both his acting and singing. Parineeti Chopra complements him very well and her pronunciation is surprisingly top-notch. The cinematography, editing and writing come together very well to capture the rawness of rural Punjab. A must watch for all; perhaps Bollywood's best biopic.
This movie is so beautifully presented. But I would like you to see Punjabi movie JODI, done by Diljit only. It was the same movie, but didn't get the same appreciation.

Honey singh ke volume 3 to aurato ke saath violence bhi promote karta hain. chamkila also sang about caste and class issues, about lovers. Predominantly Jutt led Khalistani movement hated him (meaning he was a threat to khalistani movement which is good). Don't justify his murder. Punjabi khalistanis always find reasons to spread propaganda by being imposter of oh !! He wasn't great. He is great and one of the best singers of Punjab.

If Imtiaz Ali was so confident about this movie, why did he not release it in theatres? How can someone truly judge a movie's success on Netflix? I think he is being hyped by his fanboys who want to project his movies as a "work of art", "read between the lines" etc, whereas his stories are actually quite mundane( yes Jab We Met, Tamasha were not something out of the box).
arre...that's cause it makes better business sense. Personally speaking, I would have loved to see it in a theatre. Chamkila however, is a well researched biopic, and while extremely engaging, is not really the kind of entertainer that will pull in all kinds of audiences to theatres in massive numbers. With Netflix as the sole distributor, the producers receive guaranteed big profits, and the film doesn't have to go through chains of theatrical distributors and enjoy lesser dividends. It's not about confidence or the lack of it, it's about the money. Secondly, there are view counts that determine a movie's success on Netflix. It's another thing streaming sites generally don't share the data publicly, but proof exists and is very much quantifiable.

Amar Singh Chamkila is a one of a kind Artist from Punjab. People still listen to his songs, Punjabi artists still try to copy his songs, style, lyrics and everything.
We should be thankful to artists like Amar Singh Chamkila for the big Punjabi music industry that we know today.
What i have realized after watching the movie is that ART is such a beautiful thing that it brings together poeple who are coming from diffrent strata of society ,everyone loved chamkila paji so much , that when he was performing he was not kshatriya,vaishya or shudra he was simply our beloved chamkila from punjab.
Parineeti chopra ke karan diljeet ka kirdar or bhi ubhar ke aaya hai. Wo bahut hi behatareen kalakaar hain. Unhe ek acha director jaise Imtiaz Sir hain bahut bakhoobi se pesh karte hain.
Diljit Dosanjh chamkila bann ke ubhar hi Parineeti chopra ke Amarjot ke role ki wajah se paye hain.
Direction movie ka oscar level ka hai.

Personally I think the film was well made but some parts of the film were uneven. Like during the initial minutes they introduced Chamkila with a really innovative song I thought that this would continue later in the film but it wasn't. Chamikla's first marriage was badly brushed out with comedy. An aware viewer gets what they are trying to imply with the "Nankana Sahib" song but it just remains an unwoven open thread in the film. That song including women was not needed at all. Mid one hour of the film is out and out hero worshipping and nothing else. Direction, acting and some themes which were flashed out nicely were the positives of the film.
Being a hindu i have never watched a Punjabi film.. but this movie❤❤❤❤ all thanks to Imtiyaz Ali, and the cast waaah!!!! Diljeet-Parineeti were bang on🎉🎉🎉🎉

Big fan of Imtiaz Ali since Socha na Tha till Highway. Not a big fan of Tamasha which I think is highly overrated. Jab Harry Met Sally was unbearable to say the least. Love Aajkal 2 would have been a decent watch but the lead actors didn't have the depth to carry the movie on their shoulders as they don't have the acting talent to pull it off. जब से यह फिल्म अनाउंस हुई थी बेसब्री से इंतजार था. तमाशा रॉकस्टार जब वी मेट के बेहतरीन मेकर की एक और बेहतरीन म्यूजिकल ट्रिब्यूट इस पॉपुलर सिंगर को, जिसकी यात्रा को दिलजीत दोसाँझ ने बड़ी ही सादगी से जिया है. उनका लाजवाब अभिनय है इस फ़िल्म में. दिलजीत आपको हर फ्रेम में पसंद आएंगे.... उनकी मेहनत उनकी गायकी आपको प्रभावित करेगी.... 1984 फिल्म में मैंने उनका अभिनय देखा था तब से ही लगता है कि वह संजीदा एक्टर है. इम्तियाज अली स्टाइल में बनी इस फिल्म को इम्तियाज अली के फैन बहुत ज्यादा पसंद करेंगे....यह कहानी इमितियाज़ स्टाइल में बहुत से सवाल आपसे भी करेगी जैसा कि तमाशा और रॉकस्टार में था... पहले ही सीन्स से समझ जाओगे कि यह इम्तियाज अली की फिल्म है....जिनको उनके मेकिंग पसंद है उनका दिल खुश हो जाएगा..... फिल्म का स्क्रीन प्ले उन्ही के स्टाइल का.... वो ही ट्रीटमेंट.... आपको तमाशा और रॉकस्टार वाला फील आएगा....चमकिले के बजते गीतों को खूबसूरती से स्क्रीनप्ले में स्थान दिया गया है, उसके सुनने वालों के लिए यह फ़िल्म तोहफा है. बड़े ही नेचुरल तरीके से पंजाबी माहौल में फिल्म को पिक्चरइज किया गया है, उसे समय की परिस्थितियों माहौल को बड़ी संजीदगी से स्क्रीन पर उतरा गया है.... फ्लैशबैक मोड में पूरी फिल्म चलती है... और आप इस कहानी के साथ बंदते चले जाते हो...
ए आर रहमान का संगीत फिल्म की जान है.... लेकिन चमकीला के गाने बीच-बीच में फिल्म में अलग रंग भरते हैं.... उनको खूब स्थान दिया गया है जो बहुत जरूरी भी था.... परिणीति चोपड़ा ने भी अपना बहुत शानदार काम किया है... यहाँ उनकी बात करना भी बहुत जरूरी है क्योंकि उन्होंने अपने लुक पर अपनी एक्टिंग पर बहुत काम किया है. छोटे बड़े कलाकार सब अपनी जगह पर बेहतरीन है.... जिन परिस्थितियों में चमकीला की हत्या हुई उनको बहुत अच्छे से बुना गया है....काफ़ी रिसर्च के बाद इम्तियाज अली फिल्म को लेकर आए हैं...फिल्म में चमकीला के ओरिजिनल फुटेज का भी बहुत इस्तेमाल किया गया है.....बीच-बीच मैं एनीमेटेड सीन भी बहुत अच्छे बन पड़े हैं.
बस यही कहूंगा जिनको इम्तियाज अली का स्टाइल पसंद है और अच्छा सिनेमा देखना चाहते है,वही इस फिल्म को देखें मजा आएगा... नेटफ्लिक्स पर आज ही रिलीज़ हुई है.....
अंत में एक बात और...मोहित चौहान की आवाज़ में गीत.... इश्क़ मिटाये हाय आहे....और रेहमान की आवाज़ में 'विदा करो...गीत

Kaas sabse pahele bhojpuri asalil gane gane vale ko kisine maar diya hota to bhojpuri industry ki aaj ye halat na hoti..

Chamkila is the one of the best punjabi singer. I only play Chamkila on my car and tractor. On tractor in the fields it's fantastic unimaginable. 90% of punjabi population loves Chamkila. It's only jealousy which only cause of death. All singers that time free in their houses like SIDHU moosewala push behind today's singer. People put their wedding date when Chamkila give them date for programs. We love Chamkila forever.....
