I had bought a set of vapor 1x knee guards after you raved about them all those years ago, and I completely agreed with you on them. They felt great and the most comfortable and the best priced ones since I too had trouble with the Bauer supreme’s having that hard cap without any soft foam behind it, and when they went to the elite pad replacing this one I was excited because it was the continuation. Tried it on in a store, and honestly after having it on for a good deal while trying on different leg pads, I gotta say they’ve gone a step back on them. I don’t know what they did when they decided to consolidate the lines between vapor and supreme to bring just the gsx, elite, and pro but the elite knee guards don’t have as much of a soft feel while still giving that hard protection as the vapor one’s did. Such a shame because I can’t find any vapor 1x knee guards out anymore since I sold the other ones. I have since moved on to ccm kp 1.9’s

Bauer could've brought both of their knee guards to the next level but unfortunately seemed to cheapen out on them. Which leads me to be pretty disappointed in them. They could be so much better but something is getting in the way.

I like the warriors, my issue isn't the protection but more the foam on the knee landing. I wish one had like a d30 then a maltese gel just on the inside.

Knee pads are the most hated gear I own or have tried, and I've tried a lot. I've tried Brian's, Passau, Warrior, Bauer, Vaughn and they are all uncomfortable no matter how you look at it. The only sets I have worn for an extended time were those Bauer 1x shown here that you also like and my current franken-passau set that I took the velcro bulky part off and just use the padded under part now as like a soft landing area and small padding on the front.
I've played goalie on ice for roughly over 20 years now and I can count the times I've been hit there on one hand and cant even remember the last time. I'd rather be comfortable 95% of the time rather than wearing some tank type knee guard like those Factory MAD ones that are bulky. I also play with ex pro/euro/d1-3 guys weekly and it's been a non issue, not trying to flex btw, just saying it's not that I don't play against high level guys. The only reason I even wear anything at all there is less about the pucks and more about guys coming in skates first. I'd rather have thin padding there than bare knee.
I do understand some people are different and don't have good butterfly's or technique and may catch more pucks there so I get why they are a thing. Just wanted to voice my opinion on the matter. Great review as usual, and the gear aspect of these look very well done, props to Dennis. Just seems like overkill.

I find it funny when people say technique or poor butterfly is why you need bigger knee guards, and yet 99% of NHL goalies have the knee guards with the caps on them 🤔. You'd think they'd have the best technique and butterflies in the world.

There is a reason for the overkill. If you notice in the review when Matt took a shot on the other knee guard he bruised . On the Factorymad knee guard no bruise . The thickness of the knee guards is essential in absorbing the energy from the puck.

How would you compare these to PAW?

I don't think I would do this test with PAW knee guards...
Paw are cheaper, considerably less bulky, but don't have a plate on them.

I have a set of P.A.W knee pads. I have been using them for probably 12 years with the only issue being the need to replace the elastic strapping. There is an internal plastic sheet of some sort similar to the Mad pads but no actual external cap like the Bauers. I have taken shots off them with no lasting effects other than some momentary pain. I can’t say how fast the shots were but they were definitely hard shots. P.A.W’s are not cheap either but high quality pieces of equipment and made in the U.S.A. as well. The only reason I may have to order another set is because I now split my playing time between 2 states and don’t won’t to have to bring equipment back and forth. H.R. another great review. Thanks for all the great videos and information you provide to the goalie community.

@@HockeyReviews I'm surprised. I love my PAW knee pads. I'm on my 2nd set and they laugh at a hard shot. I haven't had a single bruise or mark in the 7 years I've had them.

Are the elite knee pads the exact same as 1x

There are slight differences in the bottom layer design and the materials used. Unfortunately I haven't been able to put a pair through the paces.
