I love how I can encapsulate all of AJR’s music into the theme of “life sucks, everything sucks, but I’m making the best of it.” Truly inspirational music, nice job guys!
It's so realistic... It's validating the feelings a lot of people have without trying to be a "rescuer" by saying "everything will be fine" like some other messages that go out with toxic positivity
Someone in the comment section of Bummerland said that "whenever they're depressed they listen to this and they're normal again" that isnt how depression works my guy

I hope your music stays working for you and not working you. yeah the hat is cozy and comfy, id wear mine all the time but it would always get tilted and kicked to a 45 still comfy. good luck in recognizing and achieving your dreams
I love this song because instead of focusing on “I’m not happy yet”, the upbeat beat makes it sound more like a celebration of the fact that “I’m way less sad” and since as the song suggests, you don’t go from depressed to happy at the flick of a switch it teaches people to celebrate their little victories and the small things they can do to improve their state.
Listening to this after Bummerland makes it feel like a story of someone who's hit rock bottom and is slowly working their way back to happiness. Very nice.
Honestly true because bang was they’re lowest like REALLY low there’s a line saying “ everybody come HANG LETS GO OUT WITH A BANG “ and slowly it’s all depressing stuff but getting more happy and bang was the first song of the album
I've recently gotten into AJR in the past year, but every song they drop is *exactly* where I'm at in life... Bang, bummerland, turning out 2, and now this. It's amazing, but I'm getting better..
Yes, but they were probably proud long before. Try having kids- you can't not be in love with everything they do. I'm just saying being proud of them starts with eat, sleep and poop. It's only up from there. LOL
I’m shocked they’re not more famous than they are... like I love how they’re kinda a hidden gem but I know so many more people would/could love their music the way I do
Based on how they sold out the Anthem in DC right before the lockdown last year, and their major commercial features this year, I'm gonna say they're not so hidden anymore ;)
I really hate being "late" to all the great music, but I have discovered something. These powerful songs always seem to come to me when I need them most. I may not be happy, but I'm way less sad. Thank you AJR for another song that sooths the rougher edges of life.
I’m autistic and have adhd so I mostly have trouble sleeping and I’m glad to feel that everyone has felt that and these lyrics were way to relatable 2:11
I think this song is a way healthier than the songs we typically get about depression. Depression is often portrayed as happening to most people because of something bad that happened in their life, and then they get help once and it is like the mental illness is gone! Maybe that happens for some, but for a lot of people, depression doesn’t go away completely. Very, very rarely, it may never actually go away at all. That is terrifying! Many people seem confused by the concept someone can do everything right and still be depressed. They go to therapy constantly, take their meds on time, actively use appropriate coping skills, and always follow the advice of their doctor and yet it doesn’t help. So, what do we do when that happens? What happens when we have tried countless medications, therapies, and treatments and it still doesn’t get any better? Is that the beginning of the journey, or is that the end? This song validates the experiences of those kinds of people. In my opinion, not being happier but being way less sad is a fantastic achievement!
It's just the beginning. It takes a lot of time to realize that there are more ppl going through what you are and still dealing with the same doubt. Success does not have the same measure when you have chronic depression. Wishing you all the best in your daily achievements! And that's how we should measure, day by day going forward not with the yard stick of the past.
My daughter is 6 and has autism. She loves this song and is currently listening to it on repeat. 4 times in a row now with her angelic voice singing the lyrics. She told me she wants to play music like that. Thank you for inspiring her! Much love.
Well, I speak from experience when I say: get used to this. And for her sake, I hope you do. Those of us on the spectrum need our parents to support us, and not get bored of songs on repeat, or infinite dinosaur facts, etcetera. Let her know you're behind her, and I'm sure you'll see amazing things in the years to come. I'm sure she'll be grateful to know you're there.
This is such an important song. Sometimes aiming for ‘happy’ feels like too big of a goal, so for the time being you aim to just be ‘a bit less sad’, then a ‘bit less sad’ turns into ‘way less sad’
Was just having the worst spiral I've had for a while. Finally thought, "I need my anthem" and came back to this video. I'm feeling better now. Thank you.
Babe wake up AJR just dropped another song that perfectly illustrates how you've been feeling for the past few weeks in a way that makes you appreciate the band's existence as if they were designed specifically in this universe in order to comfort you through hard times!
have had chronic depression since my adolescence. when i first heard this song, i was just getting out of the lowest point i had ever gotten in my life. i cried out of happiness because it resonated so deeply with me! it's been a couple years and i finally developed a will to live. still, every time i hear this song, it never fails to make me happy💖

I've always been partial to "because I wanna move out, I don't wanna move on," "all my new friends, we smile at party time, but soon we forget to smile at anything else," and "all of my life I have been starving - not for a dinner with friends, more of a starving artist."
I know AJR themselves wont see this but..... I have a really amazing friend who introduced me to AJR last few days ago and I already love it, it's so fun, relatable and so interesting, I personally love I won't, Steve's going to London and Drama and honestly they've done an incredible job, I know I'd never see them live but seeing such a close and heartfelt group of friends makes me think that they're still is good in this world, weather it comes in the form of an animal or an Adam, Jack or Ryan it makes a difference in our universe, our world and our community and I would like to say that you've done and amazing job and don't listen to anyone who hates or tries changing your music just tell them that you wouldn't, love you guys ❤️
@@thee-hee8257 that doesn't mean they're underrated. if millions of people around the world play their music and they get millions of views like this so quickly, that's not even close to underrated. A group like hieroglyphics would be considered underrated.
So I've followed AJR since "What Everyone's Thinking" and seeing how large their audience has grown is incredible. I think I can speak for 1.54 million people when we say thank you AJR for doing what you do and giving us all a safe space to just listen and relax. Even if it's just background music while some of us do homework or go to sleep, you three are incredible and do incredible things, so thank you.
Something I love about AJR is that they don't try and make everything seem perfect. In this song and even in bummerland the main theme is compromise. Your depression may not be completely cured and you may not have the perfect life, but at least its getting better. At least you've made progress and honestly thats enough for me
They are realistic and that is comforting. Same with turning out and turning out pt. 2. They take into account realism and makes such great music as a result
I am a South Korean who will join the Marine Corps next week. My favorite artist is AJR. They always make encouraging songs and write influential songs. I'm always rooting for you.
Discovering AJR was a huge mistake, HOWEVER, I feel some sort of nostalgia while looking back at the period where they were my entire personality. Fucked times.
when he is singing the part where he saying, I can't fall asleep and I'm losing my mind. I feel like that's me when I explained to my mom that I couldn't fall asleep, so I was watching my phone and also AJR is the best band I've ever heard in eternity if AJR ever respond to something I say I do I am gonna cry my eyes out of happy tears for five years I love AJR thank you.😊😊😊🥹🥹🥹🥹
This gives me the “enjoy those little moments” type of feeling Like the part that says “Shut up and just enjoy this feeling” followed by “I’m not happy yet, but I’m way less sad” He’s not cured, but he needs to enjoy what he gets
In all seriousness, I get it tho Like when you are in between the process of getting better so you're not happy or "cured" but hey you are learning how to cope better
I’ve been a fan for a little over a year now and they still have this effect on me where as soon as a new song comes out I’m like “eh, it’s ok I guess” then I hear it again and I’m like “oh crap, it’s a bop”
I’ve only been a fan for a few months, but same. Even when I went back and listened to their older songs. Usually I listen to one of their songs for the first time, my reaction is “It’s alright,” but the next day somehow the song pops into my head. So I listen to it again and I love it
What I love about this music video in particular is how it gives some more camera time to people other than Jack, even Arnetta and Chris get a shot to themselves. Nice work 👏
I like how he’s actually doing a bunch of things that kids do to feel happy, like jumping on the bed, or hanging upside down. He just want simple happy.
@@arianabell9351 that one is basically just symbolism for "drowning behind closed doors." You want to press the open button, it'd be so easy to just let go of your issues onto someone else, but you keep them shut because you don't want to flood anyone.
AJR, you make incredible work. I'd say you deserve more, but its your decision of how much fame you want. We're all proud of what you accomplished. And Winter will be too.
“Well I can’t fall asleep and I’m losing my mind cause it’s half-past three and my brain’s on fire” God those lyrics hurt me in a certain way and love how relatable it is
I didnt know about these dudes until this song. Then I checked out the rest of their shit. The album's are like watching a really good movie. Meaning, they're great the whole way through. It's not just one or two tracks, it's the whole damn album that's great. And I mean every album. Thanks God they exist
Yeah same here, this was the song that got me interested and it didn't take long to discover every single album could be played from start to finish without skipping a track. Saw them in Madison in September and it was hands down the best show I've ever been to
Lol I remember when this song came out, I was celebrating my birthday the day it came out and I remember I was going through a lot that year and y'all's music made me so happy! I remember running up to my mom and saying "AJR MADE A SONG ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!" and we played it at my party and everything lol, love y'all!
I love how the whole song is supposed to make people feel it’s message. AJR knows that their music can’t fix someone’s life, but music that makes you feel good and that you can relate too can make you feel, well, way less sad.
So they borrowed the music from Simon and Garfunkel's "My Little Town" which itself is about what it's like to feel restless and trapped in your hometown
I went to your concert last night for May 1st the maybe man tour and after you guys showed how you made way less sad I can’t stop listening to it over and over again as I listen for the beats you talked about!!!! Love the song ❤❤❤

Yup. It's odd, but that's what makes AJR awesome. The odd things.

The underratedness of AJR is killing me
Yeah and when people say famous singers who are known to most people are “underrated” ( justin Bieber, Ariana grande etc.)
They have 9,864,106 monthly listeners
and this got over 1million views, how are they underrated?
@@craig205 It's still underated, all people i've met haven't even heard about them
@@thee-hee8257 that doesn't mean they're underrated. if millions of people around the world play their music and they get millions of views like this so quickly, that's not even close to underrated. A group like hieroglyphics would be considered underrated.
@@craig205 For the music industry, it isn't that much, but i get your point, some artists are REALLY underrated.

This song played on repeat for a very long hard time in my life and I still relate to this day 😂❤ I love it my husband loves it. It’s healing. ❤
I feel like this song connects with a lot of us.
Absolutely
